They don’t seem to go as far as say a tin of varnish, the triple thick is thick 🤪 so doesn’t last so long as you end up putting more on, depends how big your projects are and if they are much better value for bigger bottles or if any are on offer ☺️❤️

I have a smaller variety of varnishes. The only one I've used and not have a good outcome is the triple thick as the last time I used it, it dried tacky so I haven't used it since. However, I may give that a go again when I get the chance to buy a small bottle! Have you tried the Mont Marte (Australian brand) Gloss Clay Varnish Signature? It is made specifically for polymer (apparently may dry tacky on polymer clay due to plasticiser in clay) and air hardening clay (Dried absolutely perfect with no tackiness in my experience). I think it may be polyurethane based. They also made the iridescent varnish with pretty glitter in it.... might look tacky (not feel) to some people but it is quite pretty! Mont Marte makes air dry clay too. Similar to Jovi but a tad more fibrous. I also have the Jo Sonja Polyurethane gloss varnish, Dura-Clear Matte and High Gloss finish. in my experience, they all dried perfectly fine on air dry clay... and the water droplets test. I will get back to you on that! Thank you for your educational videos as always! 🥰
@RedRockingBird
@RedRockingBird 10 ай бұрын
Thank you JoJo. That’s not good that you found it went tacky, I wonder if the bottle needed a good shake or reacted with something, not sure. I really love it. A lot of this style of varnish are fairly similar so worth trying any we can get hold of. What I like about the triple thick is the small sizes they do them in so it’s really not expensive to try a few. I’ve not tried that brand no, sounds like you are a pro crafter 😁 happy crafting 😊❤️

Oh by the way, water test on 3 varnishes: DuraClear High Gloss Varnish, Jo Sonja Polyurethane varnish and Mont Marte Gloss Signature Varnish. All passed the water droplets test! Unsure about using the varnishes used on the inside of the pot plant though. Hmmm!! Another experiment, looks like! Thank you again, Sarah! Okay, quick and dumb question, but I've been workin' on a mini like, week worth of butter little butter cup and while it's just me that I've figured I'd find out with.. I'd love advice, hahha, I've tried looking up so many things about it and understand it might not be the best or long term piece. It's my first larger, multi piece type of project, and yeeaah, sorry, I'd love y'all's more experienced opinions.

Can I use clear nail polish for glaze?

I have in the past and not had a problem but I don’t recommend as many people say it can become sticky over time, so many different ones they’ll all be different, thanks for watching

hi! i’ve been trying to glaze a piece i made but i painted it with oil paint instead of acrylic and i somehow find it isn’t working as expected. It is not giving it a glowy finish but rather darkening the paint and I don’t know if it’s something I’m doing wrong or if it’s because I’m not supposed to use oil paint. Can you help a girl out please? 😭

Hi, I've not painted the air dry clay with oil paint before, you do have to wait a long time for the oil paint to 'dry', an awful lot longer than acrylic paint

@@RedRockingBird i’ve waited for weeks 😭😭 idk i think i’m just gonna buy some acrylic paint and try to paint over it to see if it works. Thanks anyways!!

Hi @@mooncat444 can you remove any of the oil paint first, if you plan to paint again I would remove the oil paint first, worth a try ❤️❤️

If I make things with mud clay then varnish with any of these will it be food safe?please reply ❤

I’m not as familiar with mud clay, air dry clay is not food safe but traditional earthenware ceramic clay that can be fired is best for being food safe

Fully dry….for longer than you think. Then paint, let dry and then seal

I just tried duraclear matte varnish on my air dry clay creation. It has caused the acrylic paint to bleed off of my clay!! Anyone have experience with this? What should I do :(

Oh no, sorry to hear it didn't quite go to plan, the only thing I can think is that the acrylic paint wasn't fully dry first, once fully dry acrylic paint shouldn't move 💗

What's the difference between glaze and varnish?
@RedRockingBird
@RedRockingBird 3 ай бұрын
Glaze is what potters use with ceramics that get fired in a kiln, so for us that use air dry clay we can sometimes get a ‘glaze’ looking finish (shiny) with a varnish or resin etc.

You can and I did in my previous varnishes video, I have one that never went tacky, but plenty of people say that nail polish eventually goes tacky with time, thanks
