Back about ten years ago, I saw this play was voted the second most memorable play in a super bowl. As a Redskin fan, I know I’ll never forget it. My second most memorable play is probably Doug Williams first pass to a wide open Ricky Sanders for the first TD or that incredible quarter of football. I doubt that the record of 35 points in one quarter will ever be broken in a Super Bowl. The Redskins have had some great memorable moments in Super Bowls past, unfortunately, with Dan Snyder as owner, there will never be any more moments like that in my life time. I’m glad we have these films to remember those great times.

Washington would score late in the game on a Joe Theismann 7 yard pass to Charlie Brown, with the Mark Mosely Pat. Final Score Redskins 27 Dolphins 17. John Riggins wins MVP Honors with 38 carries for a Super Bowl record 166 yds rushing, including his dramatic 42 yard t.d. romp! Of note, this was the second major championship then-Redskins owner Jack Kent Cooke was able to celebrate in Los Angeles. He had previously been the owner of the Los Angeles Lakers, and in 1972, his Lakers had what, for me, was the greatest season in NBA history, as that was the season in which they won 33 games in a row, compiled a 69-13 record, and finally brought the NBA championship to Los Angeles with a convincing 5 game win over the New York Knicks, who had beaten them in 1970, with the clincher coming at the Fabulous Forum, as it was then known.

Seems he started the Counter Trey. Worked best under Riggins. Today's owner Synder caught up in Redskin cheerleading peep holes and not understand and knowing how to hire the right personnel to manage and pick great Redskin players and coaches. With that, sadly we will never see a Washington superbowl winner in my life time and I am 56 now. Born and raised in Washington D.C. At least we have memories. Riggins was actually a cigarette smoker even then. No wonder he needed the oxygen mask at the end lol.

@Bryan McHugh No giggles from here on that one - it was no fun seeing John Riggins #44 needing to be held up so he wouldn't collapse in an SOB [shortness of breath] heap; he was tough as "prairie dog leather" no question, but that scene oughta be passed around as both warning & inspiration to others. I just Go Green, for 47 years, & ain't never had no such I Need Air near collapse as that after an exertional effort. Take a hint people & Just Say No to that to-bac-co! 🤢

Damn that was a professional football player (#28) whom Riggins made look like a high school J.V. player.

John Riggins : the "ONLY" RB in NFL history to gain more rushing yards and score more rushing touchdowns in his 30's than in his 20's.

Yep, he slipped-- after Riggins leveled 'im.

Even though McNeal slipped I don't think it would have mattered given the size differential. Riggo outweighed McNeal by a good 50+ lbs and with a head of steam going McNeal wouldn't have had a chance even if he hadn't slipped. Brilliant play call and execution by Gibbs/coaching staff and the players.

Wow I remember what Gibbs said about Riggins when he visited his home.. To get Riggins to come back and play.. Gibbs said just sign him and I will trade this ego nut.. Gibbs had no idea with his insults.. Later Riggins put a no trade clause in his contract.. We all so enjoyed the Dieselin everyday..

McNeil had a perfectly clean shot at Riggins. I'm so tired of hearing that excuse of "he slipped." Wouldn't have made a bit of difference either way cause Riggins would've run his ass over slip or no slip.
