@@MnyMar Yeah, I grew up as a Skins fan. First Super Bowl I remember watching was against the Dolphins. After I got out of High School and Joe Gibbs was gone, it was never the same. They spent 30 years never finding the right coach, never finding the right QB. If Snyder left Norv Turner alone, they could have been a solid team for awhile. Buy I have hope in the new ownership. I think they'll pick the right people and let them do their thing, and hopefully change to a better name than the Commanders.

I have been a Washington fan for 45yrs and watching this game give me goose bumps because this is what our franchise is supposed to be a hard nosed football team an our owner has ruined it and has done nothing with the franchise since he bought it 20yrs ago an I just wish we could get back to playing Washington football because I'm getting tired of getting disappointed every year and the defense in this game was relentless and that's Washington football and looking at this game is just a reminder how dominant we were in the 80's and early 90's and we need to get back to that ASAP...Ijs

Nowadays if a team is down 27 and cuts it to 13 with four minutes left like the Bills did here it would still be considered a game, but Buffalo was so beaten down and exhausted by the time they scored their final touchdown, even though they technically still had a good amount of time to go, there was just no chance they could come back any more. The physicality of a game was just different then.

The Redskins defense applied physical and psychological warfare on the Bills' high octane offense in this game. Whether their receivers caught the ball or not they were punished with crushing hits by the corners and safety. Jim Kelly was getting hammered in the pocket. By the third quarter Kelly was seeing stars and his receivers were alligator-arming passes thinking more about the hit coming than catching the ball 😂 That kind of defense would never be allowed today.

The disparity between the NFC and the AFC (in that era) was never more apparent than in this game. Between 1981-1991, the NFC championship game had at least the Skins, Niners, or Giants playing in every year but 1985 when the 85 Bears beat the Rams. Every year, those teams would beat each other up, so the AFC team in the SB was a comparative cupcake. Then, between 92-94, Cowboys-Niners then became the de facto Super Bowl. The AFC had good teams as well. But they just didn't match up well with those juggernauts.

@@Realistic316 On offense, the Redskins went with a fast pace (no huddle for many long stretches) which Buffalo was not prepared for. The Redskins had not used that all year. On defense, the Redskins blitzed (that is, sent an extra rusher that the offense could not account for) in key situations picking up sacks and forcing Kelly to throw an interception on the first play of the third quarter. In football, out coaching another team is throwing things at them that they are not prepared for and running plays that go against your tendencies.

Since, you think whomever won the NFC championship game between the Cowboys and 49ers would obviously beat the Bills in the Super Bowl, you're slapping the Cowboys in the face since all they did was beat the 49ers,the same team that the Bills beat.

People make fun of and focus on the 4 losses in the Super Bowl for Buffalo but look at who they played. This Redskins team was objectively one of the best in history. The Cowboys were a dominant dynasty that almost won 4 titles in a row. The “worst” team they faced was the Giants in their first attempt. Those Giants had a great running game, a HOF all time great head coach, and oh yeah, the greatest defensive player to ever play football. Buffalo still game within a missed reasonable field goal of winning that one, too. The Super Bowl hangover is real. Especially for the team that lost. Buffalo was able to regroup after playing 3 or 4 extra games and suffering extreme disappointment 3 years in a row. The NFC won the Super Bowl 13 years in a row. Most of them were by 2, 3, 4, or even 5 touchdowns. They were 1 of 2 AFC teams to keep it within single digits and obviously came the closest to snapping the losing streak.

A 17-2 record, #1 overall offense, #1 overall defense, and a super bowl championship is a good way to not only be the best team in the league, but one of if not the greatest NFL teams of all time.

If Scott Norwood had only made the field goal for the game winner in the SB prior to this one, a lot of fans would view these Bills differently. As for me, I still rate these Bills as one of the greatest teams of all time. I mean 4 straight Super Bowls is crazy. The Bills beat Elway and the Broncos in the AFC championship to get to this one. The next year the Bills would beat Marino and the Dolphins in the AFC championship, and then for their fourth straight SB the Bills would beat Joe Montana and the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship. The Bills were clearly good enough to win one last game in four attempts. It just didn’t go their way each time.

Redskin fan here......I was only 8yrs old and remember my dad letting me stay up to watch the Superbowl. Never will forget this game, true classic. I also remember the Bills unbelievable comeback from the Houston game, that was something else and was with Bills backup QB Reich, made it even more memorable. I hope one day to see the Bills lift the Lombardi trophy, that will be incredible, like the Cubs winning the world series. Jim Kelly was a great QB, that team that went to 4 superbowls, I don't think they get enough recognition for what they accomplished and worked so hard to do those 4 years in a row. This current Bills team looks promising. Their day will come.

Yup - another example of how emotionally fragile these Buffalo teams were. Something would go against them in the SB and they would just suffer a total meltdown. That was an absolutely idiotic thing for a Hall of Famer like Reed to do in that situation. The Bills were already on the ropes and he made a bad situation even worse. They NEEDED points there, even if it was just 3.
@billyz5088
@billyz5088 3 жыл бұрын
@@walterlv01 ~~ agree - they desperately needed points on that drive - and had they gotten 7 - it would have at least changed the complexion of the game. But there is no way to say if Buffalo could have won it from there. Too many variables - too many "what ifs".
