In this video, Kelly and I work on trellising our individual tomato raised beds using all the cutt offs from the deck build we did earlier. My goal was to recycle everything including the screws (used the ones from the demo of our big greenhouse). Kelly also gives an update on the garden.

Squash bugs have a strong presence in our location. We use an organic approach to manage them. We drop captured adults in a bucket of dish soap and water. Plus we put any part of the plant that has a deposit of bug eggs. As a final recourse we have a few squash seedling waiting to replace our loses. This approach works for most all pest in our situation.

I love the Kelly videos. She is great at narrative and explaining the processes she uses. Well done.

Diatomaceous earth works great with Exoskeletons. It's non-toxic so look it up. It is available at any farm store.

No condemnation on yourself for being unable to get in the garden. Amazingly, as you have proven, it will continue to do its thing while you heal. I had a few areas that got away from me while I was gone to the mountains to bury my husband's ashes, but when I got back and rested from the trip, I got out and tackled those, and got them all planted with winter squash, okra and pumpkins. Everything is germinated and starting to grow.

Take used coffee grounds and spread them around your plants. Coffee grounds have nitrogen and other beneficial properties. You can take old grounds and add lots of water and soak for thirty minutes strain off grounds(spread grounds around plants) put coffee water in spray bottle and mist plants gently, bugs hate coffee especially mosquitoes.

I use to wast my time doing that. Now what I do is make cages out concrete wire or industrial insulation wire. They are nice and wide big squares to reach in and grab and are 7 to 8 foot tall. Only takes one 4 foot stake in the ground knocked in ground a foot or so and you weave to stake through the squares. They last for years and work well with cucumbers etc. My tomatoes almost always grown to and out the top.

Cripes. We'll trade you weather. Minnesota has had a ridiculous amount of rain this summer. Setting state records that we don't want. It's out of control and pretty old by now. Haven't had to water my lawn once this year and the main trail out to my cabin build site has had standing water on it every time I go out there.

Squash bugs & eggs: Bugs - kill kill kill. Be ruthless. Put those gloves on & squish! I also found that a a mix of Dawn dish soap, neem oil & water in a sprayer & just coat those plants & it seems to keep them at bay. To get the eggs off the underside of the leaves … get some tape & pull them off manually. 😠 they have destroyed 2 of my blue baby doll pumpkins so far this season. It’s war! 😡
