How safe is Mindanao Island? On the United Kingdom’s Foreign Travel Advice Website, they’ve virtually drawn a line down the middle of Mindanao depicting which are the safe places to travel to and those that are not so safe. The website states that there’s a high threat of kidnap in the Philippines, with foreign nationals targeted by both criminal and terrorist groups. The threat of kidnapping is particularly acute in Mindanao and the Sulu archipelago and offshore areas in the nearby waters of the Sulu Sea and Celebes Sea.
I've been in western Mindanao for 9 nights: Have spent 4 nights in Dipolog City, a place I'd wanted to come to for awhile, having been on my radar since I heard about its fabulous Boulevard, then a sad night in Oroquieta City which had nothing to offer, I then spent 4 nights in Ozamiz City.
On the morning I was leaving Ozamiz city I received a text from a filipina I’d been chatting to asking if I had any foreign friends in Ozamiz. Then forwarded a Facebook post regarding a foreigner who’d been discovered dead that morning with gunshot wounds to the head who’d been executed. He had no phone or anything on his possession, so police couldn’t identify him. It was a chilling thought knowing that a foreigner was murdered in a place where I’d been staying for the previous 4 nights.
I’d not spent much time on the Ozamiz streets, as I’d been holed up in my hotel room editing. There’s a handful of good places to eat, but that’s about it. Fortunately the hotel I stayed at was really lovely, which was probably the best thing about Ozamiz city. Apart from leaving.
This was my first time visiting western Mindanao. I have previously taken a ferry from Camiguin to Cagayan De Oro, spent time in that city, before travelling on to Davao, spending 3 weeks in Davao over Christmas 2022. From there I took a bus to Butuan, stopped overnight then continued on to Siargao Island.
A British national and a dual Filipino-British national were kidnapped on 4 October 2019 from a resort in Zamboanga, Western Mindanao. They were successfully rescued on 25 November 2019 by the Philippines Armed Forces. Some hostages however, including foreign nationals, have been murdered.
According to the 2020 census, CDO has a population of over 728,000. It is a vibrant multi-cultural city with over 50 mosques dotted around the city. I love cities. I walk each day for hours pounding the streets. I find much more life to see on the streets than a hike up a mountainside. Even if I’m not taking photographs or shooting video I still like the energy and interest that a city provides.
The Philippines should be on everyone’s bucket list with its beautiful white sand beaches, fabulous idyllic islands, turquoise sea and stunning scenery. The Philippines is a traveller’s paradise and regularly included in top ten favorite places to visit in Asia and affordable, favorite world holiday destination.
Many foreigners/expats choose the Philippines as the best country to retire in Asia and live in paradise. The Philippines is one of the cheapest countries to live in the world with its low cost of living and all year sunshine. Retiring in the Philippines is affordable on a budget of less than $1000 per month.
Filipinos are welcome and warm people. Filipinos are often regarded as the most friendliest nation in Asia and nicest people in the world. English is widely spoken throughout the country. The Philippines is included in the top ten English speaking countries in the world. The majority of Filipinos are highly proficient in English, so it is very easy to strike up a conversation and make new friends.

I have been going to Cagayan de Oro and different cities for 3 years and I have never had a problem with anyone, you always have to be kind, respectful and always have a smile with others.😊 I was there last month and I was in a barbershop and all the staff were very happy, I paid 5 dollars for a haircut, here in Florida it costs 40 dollars😢

You can go to any print shop and have business cards, stickers, or magnets printed with your channel name on it. You can just hand them out to people when they ask your channel name. There are print shops everywhere. Kids love stickers. You could probably hand out 1,000 stickers a week pretty easily then the kids would stick them everywhere.

It might be drug-related. The place where he was discovered had always been where they dump bodies of victims. Few people, far from prying eyes, and large farmlands. During the drug war, a mass grave was found there.

There were twenty kidnappings of foreigners in Manila in 2023, almost all of Chinese business men. Almost all cases are solved and the perpetrators caught. Kidnappings anywhere else are really rare including anywhere in Mindanao. As a tourist you're 1,000 times more likely to die in a motorcycle or vehicle crash or be killed in a robbery than get kidnapped so it's not worth worrying about beyond taking reasonable precautions as you would anywhere.

Ozamis is a nice place. there's many expats here. there's crime all over the Philippines. please just don't target one city. Ozamis city is growing slowly . there's not many Muslims in Misamis Occidental Province. and that Red Line is incorrect the problem is north and south Zamboanga Province area. and it not the Muslim people that are the problem it the Rebels that live in the mountains that hate the government. and kidnapped and Robbery on the tourist. please don't bash Mindanao.

I know it's loud there and I have the same problem in Costa Rica sometimes because I have a home there but have you ever heard of ear plugs or noise canceling headphones? there's ways of fixing a problem but just continuing the complain about the problem over and over again doesn't really solve anything. by the way I enjoy your videos but you didn't seem to mention Ricky in this video when you mentioned Osamiz City.

I'm surprised that all the comments are negative and villainize the homeless man. How certain are these people of their judgment call. I thought the Philippines take pride in their Christian values, something that differentiates them from all other Asian nations. For my kababayans, especially those faithful to Christ, 💙 Matthew 25:40❤

Looking for female barber? Female hair dressers, loads you'll find in the Philippines. Barbers as commonly understood in the Philippines are males. Female barber, likely maybe she's lesbian and choosing specific to cut men's her, becomes a 'barber'.

I’ve spent many nights in the royal garden hotel over the past 20 years, only ever heard music once when there was a wedding on. Try the imperial suite on the top floors. Ozamiz is ok just a bit boring with not much to do, the city shuts down when the shops close.

I spent 8 months in Zamboanga on a U.S/Philippines "base." We exchanged gunfire on a pretty regular basis. (Abu Sayyaf) This was 2011 so I am not sure about now. I am married to a Filipina and my wife is from Wao in Mindanao. I was in her province about 6 months ago and felt totally safe. But, I was always aware of my surroundings. We were about 5 hours NW of Davao by car.

It's cleaned up mostly, now that they have a handle on Al-Qaeda/ISIS remnants that formed the ASG and have broken up the People's Liberation Army HQ. However, we have had some recent attacks since Israeli stuff broke out. Three students were killed in an explosion in a cafeteria on a campus near us. I live super close to where they broke up PLA HQ. It's scary that they were that close and I didn't even know it. I can't/don't go to the mountains or travel to certain villages. Her family tells me to stay away from certain areas and I listen. I spent my career IDing these people. Sometimes I see them in public and I leave and go home and change busses or jeepneys a half dozens times just to be safe about it. When her parents pass we will move north near the VA hospital.
