Long-term update. I still love this. The probe needed monthly cleaning after about a year and needed replacing after 18 months. No complaints of note - great bit of kit.

Hello, I follow you and I like the content you making but about this KH Keeper plus hmmm my experince is bad so far, 1 pump (green) is not working so good and the red needle is leaking regent out of box don't you think with the price tag they should use something better than those cheap stubs and needles ? Both readings PH and KH are always off each time it test.

I literally love every video you post lol, I’m using the trident right now and love it, I dont know how I would feel about spending that much on something that tests one parameter, I bet it’s great but there are other options that are just as good

Would one of these dosing All for Reef with the x3 dosing heads from them (probably alongside NOPOX and one other spare) be a good setup. I am interested to know why you also ran/run kalkwasser if the all for reef is doing that as well in balanced amounts? Was it purely for the PH gains and what does that do to the calcium and Alkalinity balance from the All for Reef. I am after a simple setup to handle dosing as much as I can from one bottle and testing PH and Alkalinity hoping the rest stay in line and I can keep an eye with a weekly test for the others. With the Reef Factory dosing heads as well I could dose based on the KH Keeper results of all for Reef to stay around certain Alk levels (in theory). Another option would be the Red Sea dosing unit as I have red sea tank/lights/skimmer/wave makers/reefmatt (coming soon) but I like the idea of the testing and dosing being done from the same app and the integration. The less apps the better :)

All For Reef is very expensive for high demand tanks and doesn't increase pH, which is why I don't use it

Hi @reef dork Considering you had both the ghl kh and kh keeper plus , from your experiences which one would you recommend to buy? Im currently looking for kh monitoring device and considering these two

I've done a comparison video of the two so check that out for full details. But hands down the KHK. The KHD still doesn't send notifications, 3 years after GHL said they were working on them. And I found the software really clunky. I also had more accuracy problems with the KHD than the KHK.

How accurate are the dimensions for the KH Keeper Plus on the website. Length - 97mm, Width - 135mm and Height 210mm. That seems quite a small unit (which would be perfect for me)

Hmm. It tells you the pH of the sample water but I'm not sure if that's before or after the reagent is added. I'd guess before...

@@ReefDork i wonder what ph of the waste water is because if I want to return it to the tank, especially something only 200L since I run a full sps reef on a canister filter… I want to make sure it has very little effect :) thanks for your response though.

Hi, I want to ask you if (2×) clownfish, (2-4×) pajama cardinalfish and (1×) yellowtail blue damselfish can live together, and also if a 30 gallon aquarium would be enough for them - specifically the nuvo fusion 30. (I didn't buy the aquarium yet but it fits best for my cabinet from all the aquariums I've looked at) ~Thanks

All fine. Groups of fish don't generally do well so check if pyjamas will fight in groups

Owned the KH Keeper and got rid of it after 3 weeks, will stick to the Alkatronic it has been running solid for 2 years and the only down side is the size.

I was really tempted to buy an Alkatronic about a year ago - space was the deciding factor in the end, but they look like quality bits of kit 👍

Hi Reef Dork. I have a question regarding the PH reading this gives in the app (I presume that reading is before testing) does that PH reading get recorded alongside the KH for reference? Basically I am looking at buying one of these and also the reef factory Ph meter but if the KH keeper tracks PH what’s the point in buying the PH Meter as well? I don’t want 2 pieces of (expensive equipment to do the same job) thanks

It lists your last 20ish pH results but it doesn't store the history and it's not an accurate measurement as the water is squeezed through a tube then dripped into a beaker. I wouldn't use the kh keeper for monitoring pH personally - it's not what it's designed for...

No plans - I did a long-term review of the standard khk a while ago. I have found the probe needed cleaning after 8 months on this. But that's about it - nothing much more to report - still love it!

Was curious how it actually tested....does it have its own reagent? Light sensor?

Good point, didn't think to cover that for some reason. It adds 60ml of water to the sample beaker which also has a pH probe. Then it adds acid until the pH reaches x, at which point it'll know what the alkalinity is. Works the same way as the Alkatronic and KH Director 🙂

Calibrating the aquarium pump, it always dispenses approximately 11 or 12 ml and in the precision test, approximately 44 ml does not reach 50 ml. Do you know what may be happening?

Is a 50 g weight one needs to calibrate the scales? I couldn't find this information anywhere.

I think it uses about 25ish ml to calibrate so 50 should be fine, but if there's a 100g scale I'd get that - the difference in resolution will be negligible

@@ReefDork sorry, just the clarify, surely the scale has a fixed weight it expects for calibration? It says in the instructions how to access calibration but doesn’t specify the weight one should use.

Don't know the model and annoyingly you can't buy them online - you have to ask your lfs to order them. Changing looks easy though - undo the back panel and twist the probe connector off. Although I haven't done that yet and I'm still using the original pH probe on my other khk too, just under 18 months on...

Hey Reef Dork, how are you preparing the diluted KH reagent? if I want to mix 100ml of concentrated reagent with 900ml of RO water, should I use the included pocket scale and mix 100ml = 100*1.026 = 102.6g of reagent with 900ml = 900*1.026 = 923.4g of RO? Hi Ionescu. The included scales are for calibration only - they won't take the weight of all that water/reagent. You just mix 900ml of ro water with 100ml of reagent. If possible, try to mix all the reagent up at the same time so it's consistent. But don't worry if you can't...

Since in the KH Keeper manual is everywhere mentioned that 1 ml = 1.026g of seawater, and the pocket scale included is measuring in grams, I was wondering if for mixing the reagent the same formula(conversion from ml to grams) should be applied? Or should it be 10g(on the pocket scale) concentrated reagent mixed with 90g RO?

@@ReefDork this is what I thought, but it's strange that I've asked RF support and they say that the correct measurement/calculation is taking 1 ml = 1.026g.... now I am more in doubt than before :D

@@Sammy31Dee it’s just the only thing killing me is that the trident tests more than one I think up to 4 times a day and I have a nano like 25 gallons I had the thought of getting one just wasn’t to sure on putting down for one or not it was between this one the apex and or the ghost oh director idk

@@ryandraper4380 I was doing the same thing as you....the trident is amazing...no regrets...plus having the apex and the dos and now the lights....it's a badass combo...not a single issue with any of it...reagents are dirt cheap and you can actually calibrate the dn thing unlike others that rely on whatever tests you provide being accurate....it was hands down the best investment I've made in reefing....I understand others test phosphate etc but trust me when I say you're getting a much more reliable piece of equipment going with apex

I pay 45 us dollars for 6 months of trident tests....it come with calibration solution with each batch of reagents....the 4 tests a day seems overkill but you do get large bottles and they last...alk is changed once a month....cal and mag is changed every 2 months....when you change all 3 you hit a button on your phone to calibrate and its done....easy peezy no headaches...tons of user support...it's tests alk every 6 hours and Calc and mag every 12 hours ....the main reason it's tests this often is bc you do get swings in these time frames plus the continued use means you won't have dried up crusty water lines, test tubes etc....

The reagent outlet tip can clog so i've sliced the end off to make the outlet hole slightly less small and I occasionally get goop building up on the pH probe that I wipe off with kitchen roll. Apart from that, it's awesome! Had it just over a year.

There are TONNES of KZfaqrs who don't say when they've got stuff for free! It costs more than £200 to buy me off, but I totally get where you're coming from. So in these videos, I do give my opinion because people want to know, but for those for don't, I also show you around the product as much as possible so you can make your own mind up 🙂
