Very nice setup on the mixing station. There are a couple of things I would consider. At some point you will want to get in there through the top to be able to scrub out the 210 gallon tanks. Using the filter sock is a real nice touch that I am sure will extend the length of time in between cleanings but eventually the tanks will need to be scrubbed out/ cleaned. It is not always a fun job getting up on a ladder but I would start thinking about ways to clean it safely. Love your videos! Even something as simple as this one. I can always appreciate the work behind operating a large gallery of fish tanks and the way you set things up to make life easier. Keep them coming Jake!

Filtering the mix with a sock is actually brilliant. Never even thought about that. However I can confirm that on occasion even the more “cleaner salt” like Red Sea and even Brightwell have occasionally left a very gritty residue that I could only describe as a rock that’s been ground to dust and of course won’t dissolve in water.

Thank you for showing the final product on the water vats looks sharp. Love the stand too. What would be cool is if you did a video on how you filter the salt. That would be helpful to see for someone new to the hobby. I appreciate all your videos and input and I hope you're having a great day!

Rather than using the filter sock, just plumb an inline 10" filter housing before the garden hose hook up and change the 5 micron pleated filters when they get dirty. Best thing I did to my mixing station. Still have to clean the barrels once in a while but at least the precipitate doesn't end up in the display tank. Great video.

@hesdeadjim6000
@hesdeadjim6000 4 жыл бұрын
Reef Builders have you measured it in any way? Bear brewing isn’t going to be effected by nitrates, phosphates, etc... and I’m guessing changing out that media is going to end up being more expensive than a simple ro membrane. Odd choice to spend so much on everything else and then skimp on an RO membrane. Plus accidents happen... sooner or later the city water will have a mainline break somewhere, a boil order, something and you’ll have to deal with junk in the water.

Ok that filter sock was nasty. I know you kept saying "a 1000 gallons" went through it as if that's a lot. But my return pumps easily push 1000 gallons every hour, and if my filter socks looked that color after 1 hour I would worry about the quality of my water. I like your water system with one major problem, those valves at the top, they seem to be very high up and inaccessible unless you had a ladder, or step stool. But I agree, having water ready to go is so convenient, it makes doing water changes, top offs, heck just cleaning stuff with RO/DI water (even though you don't do have that) just so much easier, and if it's easy you will tend to do it more and not slack off.
@ReefBuildersVideo
@ReefBuildersVideo 4 жыл бұрын
It's 1000 gallons worth of dirty minerals, not dirty organics which would be very worrying. everything is built vertically at the studio because I'm a tall dude so reaching those top valves isn't hard,
