Misting system is amazing! It really shows that you are extremely concerned about providing the livestock and other organisms in your care the optimal environment for them to thrive! Bravo!

Very nice. When I first saw this light, mangrove was what I immediately thought of. Great to see someone trying out in that application. The tank looks great 👍 One consideration when you mount them. Most trees, most plants have a growth function know as apical dominance with leading meristem, without getting technical: it will chase the sun. So, it's generally recommended to front light and back light indoor trees so they grow evenly. That's just a best practices from horticulture. You can certainly ignore it. But depending on how long you keep those trees for, if you grow them a few feet tall, they might go a bit crooked and lean twoards the light source if lighting isn't balanced. User preference though. I don't think you'll have a problem with how their mounted right and left (you have essentially counter light them). But it is somthing I never hear discussed which should be, when you talking about growing an indoor tree for years.

I have had my Kessil A500X for a few weeks now. The BRS PAR readings are WAY low. Be very careful as at 70% intensity it puts out 470 PAR at 18 inches under the lens and 8 inches under the water. It's a very powerful unit. I check mine with my Apogee MQ-510. EDIT, I should have added, that is with the 55 degree lens and was taken in a 2x2 Cube. Mounted with Kessil mounting arm set on 10. Here are some numbers. 30 Color, 70 Intensity, 55 degree lens 470 PAR - 18 inches from lens - 8 inches under top of water. 370 PAR - 24 inches from lens - 14 inches under top of water. 320 PAR - 28 inches from lens - 16 inches under top of water. 300 PAR - Sandbed 32 inches from bottom of Kessil lens - 20 inches under top of water.

Video suggestion for you - you always talk about observing your corals... For the less experienced reef keepers, it would be great for you to provide details for things to look for (both good and bad), and remedies for improved results. Perhaps walking around the studio pointing out things, and giving examples of what you might do to address each. For both SPS and LPS. I know I would greatly appreciate a video like that!

I guess raising lights is essential with mangroves eventually without pruning anyway. So it can't hurt to raise set them up in a position to be raised easily later. Good notes taken.

Researching for a mangrove lagoon tank attached to my reef tank. Trying to figure out the best light to use. FYI it's black mangroves that excrete salt from their leaves, reds don't uptake any salt, so no need to rinse leaves. But the misting system is cool and I'm sure doesn't hurt.
@momentiummonroe14752 жыл бұрын
Do you think both work about the same for uptaking Nitrates and Nitrites? They're pretty small trees so who know how much they're actually taking up, but still?

Totally off the topic of the video, but what are those thermometers on the front of the mangrove tank and the one to the left of it? I would love to get my hands on one of those.
@IGSHOTZ983 жыл бұрын
Theyre called qguai aquarium thermometer on amazon. Say apetsma on the front. $15.99
2 questions, 1. Why not run the Kessils on a Track light rail in front of the tank pointed at the tank so they are never in the viewing frame? 2. On the misting I am assuming it is "tap" based off some of the Therapy sessions where you talk about how good the water is. Can you simply do the calculation to how much evaporation the tank looses daily and set them on a timer daily to account for it basically using them as an Auto-top-off as well as the mister for the Mangroves.?
@ReefBuildersVideo3 жыл бұрын
the freshwater tank next to this display is the 'reservoir' for the misting system

@@ReefBuildersVideo Oh now more questions, You are exporting the nutrients via misting from the freshwater tank. Have you noticed an increase in Nitrates or anything for that matter? I have my freshwater tank designed so that during the water change it goes out to my garden via a Leaky Pipe. The growth in my vegetables is very nice from it. Simple to do This is now giving me Ideas for a future build using My Discus tank to top-off a Shallow lagoon macro-algea style reef.
