Chris has a problem. Every video I see him In he is smiling like mad. I guess that’s what he gets for living in a beautiful place and doing what he loves…poor poor guy. He always gets me so excited to try something new.

Hi Keith and huge thanks to Chris - I have a question to Chris about Kalk (or you). Chris said you don't even need to clean your kalk out - I did and over the next 2 days my kH jumped 1.2 - may not have been related to cleaning the kalk but I have heard it makes it more effective. Do you think it's unrelated or do you (or Chris) think this could be a factor? Thanks mate and keep this up - this is incredible stuff ;)

Hi Sunny, The biggest misconception about Kalk, is the white slurry that settles needs to be thrown out. The white slurry is just undissolved CaOH (Kalk). CaOH is very insoluble in water. The slurry just needs more RODI water to dissolve. Every time you refill your holding vessel, the slurry just needs stirred really well and more will dissolve. This is why I recommend adding new Kalk, only when you see no settlement. If no settlement occurs you more than likely will not be at max concentration. You can check the Ph of the clear liquid 1 1/2hrs after mixing. If the Ph is less than 12.44, add more and stir. Make sure the mixture is at the same temperature your ph probe ore meter is calibrated for or the reading will be off.

@@aciaquaculture I wonder if you add any Trace as opposed to Balling / 2 part Kalkwasser is pure Ca + Alk. Can you share anything on that?

I hate you both! LOL! If I go there visit him I'll have to spend the whole week to talk to him about everything and see all the corals and take everything home too (pics)!! So many times science says something and there is a tiny bit missing on that paper!! Then reality comes in with the perfect results and that whole paper becomes only a tip of the truth. We can't argue against the facts. What Chris is doing could change the whole vision about alkalinity for some particular applications. I just wish he could explain more detailed. I think we need another live so he could get into it with details! Maybe his Chemist friend could be there too? And we still need that other live having Chris and Jake together. LOL!

I don't remember the low end of the range but his pH gets up to 8.5

Yeah, I talked to Randy Holmes-Farley about Chris' claim about alkalinity and Randy says he is completely wrong. He even went into the science behind it.

In the rappin with reefbum interview with chris, I wasn't trying to be rude in the comments, but what he was saying goes against the laws of chemistry. He maybe having some "success" but there was a lot of misinformation regarding chemistry that could spell trouble for those trying to follow said advice/misinformation.

@@ReefBum I'm not arguing with results but he needs to lay off the 2 part alkalinity bashing because he has no science to stand on. He is spot on about raising pH. That is beyond overlooked in this hobby.

I think the point here is that Chris has found a method of keeping corals that has worked really well for him....and he is sharing that info for anyone who wants to follow that path. But there are many other methods one can use to achieve success. So It is great to have options :)

I would love to see what Randy explained. Do you have a link, please? I myself have heard so many different ways to play with alkalinity... I do know pH is very important though. Please post the links! Thanks in advance!
