For this video, we went to visit our friend Jake at Biota Aquariums in Fort Lauderdale to talk about their captive bred clams and clams in general. Their usefulness in aquariums, why everyone should have one, what to look out for/avoid, how one should care for one.
We have information packed video here. Check it out and enjoy!

Great video! Back around 2008 I had a 90 gallon mixed reef with two beautiful clams. I don't know how I got my hands on them because here in Michigan they are few and far between. I have yet to see any of my local fish stores carry clams. I wish I lived near a coast where I could have access to all these different colors of clams seen here! I wish I still had that livestock and specifically those clams from that 90 gallon I shut down...

Gorgeous! I assume different species grow to different sizes right? Would any of them be appropriate for a 50 gallon tank or is that too small?
@Reefscom
@Reefscom Жыл бұрын
Hi, yea they all grow to different sizes. You can start small then replace as they get bigger. It will take many years for many different species like crocea and maximas. However derasa, gigas and squamosa will grow faster. Still years but faster.

Most places that I have seen drilled and plumbed their tank from the side and down using various pvc couplings. Nothing really different from the normal tanks, except for accounting for a large volume of water. Reach out to Chris Meckley from ACI Aquaculture via fb or ig. If you are a beginner, I would refrain from getting one until you are somewhat well versed in the hobby with well balanced maintenance schedule and handle on what your animals need in order to thrive in your aquarium. While they are relatively easy in a stable, mature tank, they can also be very finicky in unstable tank and create alot of nutrient issues when they die off.

I believe captive breeding everything is possibly the greatest idea that gets so much hate. The worlds Reefs are dying from Global Warming, Trading wild collected animals and rock could be one of our best ways to save reefs for future generations.

well sets a bad example for new comers would you agree?

Yes, but are we talking about keeping coral beauties or clams? My point is dont try to look for negativite things in a totally unrelated topic. Being a tang police isnt really necessary in an educational video that has nothing to with it. Would you not agree? Anyhow, not trying to argue or anything. I get what you are saying. If we met in person, we would talk, smile and wished well. Have a great evening and happy reefing!

you don't put that many fish in a 13 gallon tank period and if i saw you in person i would tell you to your face that's not OK

Nick Watson lol when did i say to do that or promote that? Am i the vendor that made the tank? Is this video about how to keep coral beauties? Like i said, i know where you are coming from but your hostility towards me is misdirected and unwarranted. This video is about clams and that b roll just shows coral beauty that he spoke of. Nowhere it was mentioned to keep coral beauties in where and etc. I have already agreed that they shouldnt be kept in there and explained that it was for MACNA show for three days (where they showed off their captive breeding success on bornonias anthias and sunrise coral beauties) Have a great evening.
