For this video, we go to our good friends at GHL to check out and to learn everything about their latest and highly anticipated product, Ion Director. We first reported this in last RAP Chicago when it was first brought into the U.S. as a prototype and was pleasantly surprised to see that it is now market ready and that it is already being shipped to the stores and online vendors for upcoming release all across U.S. this upcoming week.
Check out our interview to learn all about this unit.
Happy reefing!

Super cool. I especially like how the probe conducts a self-diagnostic of it’s own performance. Super smart GHL!

I can’t wait for this to become more available in 2023. Hopefully they can get the parts availability worked out. 🤞🏽

Epic - I have the KHD and it was seriously frustrating to get working - I organised to return it and then reset it up for the third time and finally it's working. I think the hardware is the best out there but the software needs a lot of work - it should just connect with your phone automatically. This was ready a long time ago and Covid hit the supply chain from what I hear... so I know it will be ready and once it is setup - just like my KHD - it should be smooth sailing. I think for people who test a lot this will be well worth it - especially for those who use balling / 2part with the sodium. I use a 1part mix of All For Reef and Kalk... and I am starting to think it may be more cost effective to just do a quarterly ICP test for everything. In any event I expect this product will last and people who get it will be very happy with it for a long time.

Bulk Reef Supply and Tropic Marine got together and now sell everything that's needed, along with the recipe, for making our own batches of All For Reef at a much lower cost.

@@acanskywalker5631 Yes! I saw that... in my case it's one of the few things in reefing that is better for me here in the EU - I can get the powder really cheap. When I first started I had the liquid and then could only get the Carbo-Calcium powder - I was using the Brightwell Kalk+2 (which has mag) so I added the Replenish for the trace. There are some really good options to use with the Carbo-Calcium powder ;)

Pretty dope equipment....I like that double testing feature if you get a goofy reading ....
@Reefscom

i agree, it is a very neat feature. I first saw this on a focustronic's alkatronic machine while back and was wondering why hasn't all the auto testing unit incorporate this in their systems yet as I saw it as such an important feature. I'm glad that GHL did. Redundancy is the name of the game as well as accuracy and consistency when it comes to these things in my personal opinion.

@@Reefscom i have a trident and once in a while it tests alk...then cal/mag and then alk again....so I wonder if it's also a neptune feature ....I'm only a few months into owning the apex/trident so I really don't know but I have seen it double test alk whether by default or just a failed test I am unsure

@@Sammy31Dee i'm not 100%sure but I think they also built that into the system via fw update. Maybe they had it from the launch and I didn't notice it.

@@kylesreef2989 I'm sure it will. Now that they are going to roll it out with ion director. It should be just simple fw update.

The sensor lasts something like 6 months and you have to replace it for 129$ 😦 expensive … not for me 🤌🏾

I hear you. They can certainly add up. I was given the impression that it's very conservative number just like how our pH probes are supposed to only last for a year but we keep it for quiet longer then that. We will see once it's released.

Thanks for watching the video! Just a heads up, the minimum life span of the sensor is 6 months. :) Maybe it lasts 6 months, maybe a year, maybe longer. It ultimately comes down to the quality of your water. The higher the organic waste, the more wear it puts on the sensor. Either way, users will have the auto-diagnosis feature telling them when it's time to replace the sensor which takes the guess work out of replacement intervals. In terms of cost, it all comes down to how much you value the convenience of automated testing and automated dosage adjustments. Sure, you can do manual tests at a lower cost, but what if you forget to test? What if you are short on time? What if you forget to log your results and don't know what your last result was or you forget to adjust your own dosages? The IOND takes the weight off your shoulders for 5 parameters. That in itself has a value that only the hobbyist can determine if its worth it to them or not.

Yeah I think PO4 is in such low amounts (compared to Nitrate for example) that it must be hard to get accurate results. But I think NO3:PO4 ratio is now likely the 5th most important parameter>? (Temp, Salinity, pH, Alk...) So that is something cool they should do... show it as a ratio - like NO3 is 10 and a PO4 ratio range like 80 - 110:1 - I think that is the sort of thing that reefers will use... like I'd like to keep NO3 < 20 and the ratio > 100. If GHL gave 3 ranges on the ratio (red >50, orange 50-100 and green >100) I think that would be a game changer for reefers - I am getting these numbers from Mike Paletta who said the best SPS reefers typically have a ratio of over 100 and they had issues under 50.
@sunnygoold9449
@sunnygoold9449 3 жыл бұрын
This is really a message to GHL to not let Perfect delay something that would be good enough. GHL can then educate reefers on the importance of the ratio and then, down the track, improve accuracy ;)
