Got a '20 Saltiga 14K I'm about to spool with 500yds 65lb Maxcuatro(ABS 75lb). I'm fishing the NE USA, there's nothing here off the rocks that would spool that. My heart breaks for you Briggsy. We get BIG tuna offshore, but we can chase with the boat if we have to. Now you have a story to tell Dennis Vereet, it took his fish 8 or 9 minutes to spool him. Yours just left. Heartbreaking mate.

I reckon it was a Tuna. My brother got spooled few years ago when he threw a floating pilchard out and a massive bluefin dive bombed on it and ran so hard he got spooled on a 6000 size reel within 30 secs... Keep up the awesome work mate.

That’s just amazing! Bet you were devastated but it’s an experience you will never forget. That was just brilliant. Hope you manage to get yourself sorted so you could carry on fishing again !! 😵😵😵

I was spooled on a 975 International (Penn) just a few days ago and never saw it. I was putting 40lb fish in the boat no worries, but this thing never slowed down at all, must have been a big bull shark. It's been a while for me too. I know the feeling, if you could have just seen it. Oh well, beats not getting bit. I live for that moment when your quarry has exceeded your expectations and you have to go back to the drawing board.

Briggsy I would also take a week off hahaha. We target sharks on 20k spools and we rather go with a thinner braid like 50lbs and get more line on the spool. When we go too heavy we don't get enough line to turn the shark. This only applies on sandy beaches in my opinion. If a big fish wants to go you can't stop it in 300m. Love your channel and hope you land the next monster.

Fishing is all fun until that one freak fish literally spools your soul out in seconds leaving you and your gear (no matter how good) as an afterthought. Happens to anyone and everyone and believe me, it will linger forever. But then again THAT is what makes it worth coming back for more.

A mate hooked something down deep on a live yakka. It kept circling for ages until my mate put his weight behind the line to lift the fish and then the fish took off. Massive speed that just kept going. The line snapped when we used a towel to put the brakes on the reel, probably snapped near the terminal tackle as we wound back hundreds of metres. The speed of the fish had pushed the sinker back a hundred metres just from water pressure. We think it was a massive tuna. That was forty years ago and I remember it still. Monsters be down deep where the dead men lie.
