We all took it hard at my school, Broadway Dance Center when Gregory passed. Gregory would enter quietly into our class taught by Barbara Duffy. Entering unannounced, he'd take over our class and Barbara would remain tapping along with us. Gregory was very encouraging. Especially, to me, just when l thought l lost it, having gone through so many things in my life, Gregory brought it to my attention everything was still there. When I didn't see Gregory come by Barbara believed he was busy making movies. I agreed. As time went on l felt something was wrong l asked Barbara again. Before she answered l said, "l have a feeling something is wrong, it's not like him. I just hope he's ok. (I have this gift of prophecy since childhood. It scared me, till l learned to accept it.) Barbara then looked at me. Later, when the news broke out, not only were the lights dim on Broadway, but the school was closed that day in Gregory's honor. Once we returned to class l gave Barbara a sympathy card and stated not to be surprised if she'd see images of Gregory. It was just a sign he's still with us. Suddenly, after the door opened a little. Barbara looked at me, l knew then Gregory's spirit is still with, not only us, but With Broadway Dance Center. When the time comes, all of us will bring our tap shoes and we will be tapping with you once again! God Bless You!

I always figured with his love of tap, that if you met him in an airport and told him you had just taken your first tap lesson he would just talk to you for hours about it.

Met Gregory Hines at an Airport as a kid. Tap was my favorite movie at the time. Language wasn't the best for a 7yr old. But my mother knew I would notice the dancing more than language. Still my top 10 list......now 42 yrs old!!!

One of the things in this film, that surprised and delighted me was hearing Baby Lawrence mentioned. When I was a young hustler on Pennsylvania Avenue in Baltimore every once in a while, Baby Lawrence would show up and he would just break into a tap dance. And in no time he’d have a crowd of us standing around in awe of some of the things that he was doing. We all knew he was really good, but it took the movie and his name being mentioned to tell me how great he was, and we never knew it. That was true of so many of the people we came across. They were hidden behind the racism in America.

12 years ago, my uncle gifted me this movie on vhs before blu ray players even came out. Humbled that this has been uploaded. Been watching tap the movie for as long as I can remember with my uncle and grandmother and never stopped expressing my love for it. Gregory hines was honestly my first man crush when I saw him tapping it up...hehehe. Any how, Thanks for uploading this. Hopeful that there will be more than plenty of TAP content this year than last year.

I knew you would appreciate. glad you enjoyed. The odd thing is, as meticulous as Charles is about labeling things, there was no mention of this special being on the tape. Go figure. I'm taking the rest of the night off, but I'm sorting through some things. You will certainly enjoy some "new" stuff I'm in the process of cataloging.

I always admired tapdancing it seems like such an art or craft. Something you can do to express yourself. That's my definition of art. Art isn't just a drawing. It's ones intention to express theyself in unique ways. KZfaq gave me a way to do my homework. An I love to see the craft passed down thru generations. But sadly it's not as common anymore. I remember savion in the 90s on sesame street. Then I learned he was gregory's apprentice. An gregory gave him 1,000%. Plus savion absorbs. So he worked with all these legends and absorbed all that knowledge n craft. Gregory, sammy, sandman and the hook crew live thru savion, an anyone who learned takes pride in what they do. To my knowledge.. savion is teaching an still tapping. He was a idol for me. I was born in 91. I'm a young black self employed computer technician. I've been fixing electronics since I was a kid. When I seen savion tapping on seasame street. I was like wow this young man has a skill and he does it with craft. It inspired me to fix computers an turn my gift into a craft to not only help myself but show others anything is possible...rest in peace the o.g hookers. Savion keep the dream alive...god bless.

It's upto all of us who tap not to give up. Even during this pandemic. It's upto people of each generation to consider this a work of art. Also to pass this down to other generations. To all the youth out there, don't let your family convince you that music and dance is a waste. People don't realize that the arts is a way of not only entertaining, but communicating too. By this l mean it also teaches you how think faster through listening by hearing different sounds, how to use math, not to have a fear of success, to be more attentive, while making you successful and confident as you grow!

It is so fucking cool to me how Steve Martin is a master at comedy and ALWAYS has tried to learn and embrace other things and he never give up on them he actually practices like with tap or banjo, and with banjo he’s like insanely good. But it isn’t like he was some old guy who needed a hobby and picked this stuff up, he was famous and had zero reason or responsibility to try any of these things let alone stick with them. I want to be like him in that aspect, I rap and make rap beats and that’s kinda my main deal but I love so much other stuff that doesn’t traditionally mesh with hip hop I mean a lot of stuff I like I’ve never once heard referenced in hip hop and for good reason, but I think it’s really admirable to not try to hide things you like Bc they aren’t “cool”
