I know I shouldn't laugh but the fact that a couple of these officers let the dog get a few nibbles in before calling them off is hilarious !!! I worked with a girl whose brother was a K9 officer and he said people really think that the dog doesn't bite THAT hard, they do. She showed us pics of K9 training and occasionally even the TO's get nipped. Imagine just your regular house dog guarding you but then ramp that up with some really kick ass training, these dogs are definitely a weapon, love it.

Those K-9’s are not called back to their handlers on purpose. They are specifically trained to subdue a perp physically, then get a reward. If you call the dog out, they lose their drive to function properly. My daughter is a K-9 LEO on night watch. She works alone with her dog. Your dog will lose the will to engage if they are not properly released. If retrieval is difficult then you have a good sound dog. There are no worthless dogs, only worthless handlers. 😮

This video brought back some wonderful memories of our shepherd that had completed K-9 training but due to circumstances she wasn't able to be on patrol. This was many years ago and at that time they offered the shepherd to my husband, which was an officer. She was the most amazing dog I have ever owned. She protected us 24-7. She was worth her weight in gold. These dogs are amazing and an asset to every department.

Dog locked on arm and going nowhere until instructed! He said there is no way you could fight off the dog!!

Someone broke into my house one night and after calling 911 the cops showed up with one of the most beautiful dogs I have ever seen. It was huge, black and long haired. Very sweet to me but definitely intimidating to look at! After searching the house it came over and just stood by me, I couldn’t help petting it but then stopped and asked if I should. The cops said go ahead and I believe they thought it weird the dog was acting that way. I was upset and the beautiful dog calmed me. An officer and a gentleman ❤️

A couple of the K9s our department had were very much like that in temperament. They loved to see us volunteer patrol people come into work, too. More than once I was almost bowled over by an exuberant K9 happy to see us and demanding some attention until their partner recalled them. Many times the dogs take their cues from their partners. They’re very smart and very intuitive. If their human partners are agitated, they’ll be on edge. If their human is happy, they’ll be relaxed and happy. I’m sure that big beauty was definitely picking up on your emotional state. His human had calmed down, but you were upset

I would just like to say that dog bites hurt! I was bit by a small terrier years ago after the dog had been attacked by a larger dog. It was injured and I tried to pick it up. The terrier bit me on the finger and man did it hurt. Years later I was bit by a Dalmatian that nipped me on my leg because it thought it's owner was in danger by my presence. Both times it hurt bad. The bite of a mature, trained German Shepherd has got to be agonizingly painful. Take warning, bad boys. You do NOT want to be bit by a K-9 officer.

The dog is always in training and the only way to reinforce the dog’s track and bite skills is to get it on the bite, so it’s important the dog finds the guy even if the cop has to prompt a little. Could be a young inexperienced dog. They’ve all got to start somewhere.
@mavericksagara6 ай бұрын
The officer wanted the dog to get a bite. I've been a cop for 12 years, and a K-9 handler for the last 5. That was a completely unjustified bite, and will easily get that suspect a lot of money from the agency. Whenever you are engaged in any apprehension activity, you are required to factor in the circumstances of the encounter and the risk of the suspect (Graham v. Connor). The bite would have been justified had they: made loud clear announcements stating what they wanted the suspect to do (surrender, announce themselves, etc.), what they were planning on doing (releasing a K-9 to search the building), and what would happen if the suspect did not comply (get bit). If I recall from the full video of this, they gave the warnings. However, the circumstances change when you enter the building alongside the K-9. The officer observed the suspect and failed to give him any commands or opportunity to surrender, which is required. This alone nullifies the announcements that were made at the entrance to the building. Its one of the reasons that all of the K-9 certifications (NNDDA, UPWDA, NPWDA, etc.) require the dog to be able to recall on command from being sent after someone, without biting them. It simulates a surrendering suspect where the dynamic has changed (think a suspect armed with a knife, who, after the dog is deployed, drops the knife and surrenders). Another acceptable training method is the "Revere," in which a dog is sent to apprehend someone, but upon the decoy surrendering, the dog automatically disengages and barks while standing at the feet of the suspect (that one's harder to train). Whether or not the K-9 handler knew of the other officer's discovery may not be known, and may alleviate any liability on his part. The officer who spotted the suspect failed to follow basic use of force guidelines, violated the suspect's rights, and should be fired. The excuse that the officer thought the suspect may have been a threat is ridiculous. If he was concerned about that, he wouldn't have turned his back on the suspect and walked out of the room, much less without saying anything to the other officer.

0:16 It amazes me how much faster dogs run than humans can. The Officer is running as fast as he can, but as soon as he gives the command - the K-9 Officer is just a blur as he speeds on ahead!

You wouldn't have to run very far. No suspect is going to outrun a K-9 for more than a very short distance.
