The actor who played Lt. Dan has been helping veterans out since that movie came out. He donates money and builds houses for them. He has a band called Lt. Dan and does concerts for them. He took that role seriously and what an honor he pays to those forgotten soldiers.

@@bryondavis2173 I watched this movie when it came out; I was around 15 and I went alone because I guess none of my friends liked movies without "I'll be back" in the dialogue. That part had me crying. I think it was the first time I had ever cried due to a story being told.

For real. You see people insulting Forrest throughout the movie but on the surface it seems to bounce off most of the time. It’s one of the first times you really see that maybe he has taken some of that abuse to heart and just breaks your heart.

Jenny was sexually abused by her father. When she tried to have sexual relations with Forrest back in college, Forrest's reaction was so innocent that it reminded her of her abusive father when he took advantage of her innocence in the worst way possible. This is why she always ran away from Forrest, as he reminds her when she was innocent and pure. She did love Forrest, but she was too traumatized. Unfortunately, it took her to the end to realize that she does deserve true love and finally broke the pattern of abusive in her life. Perhaps, their child helped her to overcome this. Ultimately, she died of AIDS (doctors were still trying to find out what the virus was at that time period). Very sad movie.

Disagree.. She loved Forrest. And why she always found her way back to him and is also why she was with him intimately. She always left because she felt she didn't deserve to be with anyone that good. That she was damaged. In the end she ended up where she was always going to be...with the only man she truly loved and that would always be good to their son..

The movie came out on VHS when I was at Army boot camp. I was watching it at the USO with like 30 other guys. The part when the Army recruiter goes up to him. The entire USO at one time yelled “RUN FORREST RUN!! LOL😅

I can imagine. Did my basic and infantry training at Ft Benning in 81, then to Germany in the winter. Shortly afterwards, I found myself guarding ammunition with another soldier in a blizzard and joking that I was going to kill my recruiter. 😂

After this movie, Tom Hanks and the actor ( Gary Sinise) that played Lt Dan made another movie called "Apollo 13" based on the true events of the NASA Apollo flight 13. Another incredible movie. So the New Years scene where Lt. Dan says if you're a shrimpin boat captain I'm an astronaut has added meaning...

“SHE doesn’t know what love is”. Exactly. Jenny was broken on the inside from her traumatic childhood, and kept running away from the one person who ever truly loved her. What I love about this movie is how the one constant is how Forrest always stayed true to his good values and principles throughout his life, and made everyone’s lives around him better, as a result.

Last time she leaves, and she says “I’m not running”, I took it as she finally knows how good he is, and that he’s too good for her as she is now, so she’s leaving to get herself together.

@@shadowboxin420 I don’t think she even knew she had it then. The doctors barely knew what it was (didn’t even have a name for it yet) by the time they reconnected, which had to be a good 5-6 years later.

I think one of the most important scenes for delving into her issues is when Forrest asks her to marry her and she responds, "you don't want to marry me." It's less about her saying that he doesn't love her, and more that she thinks she's not worthy of his love.

When Forrest is pulled to the mic to give the speech about Vietnam to the crowd he says “Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don’t go home at all. That’s a bad thing. That’s all I have to say about that.” Simple, yet still so fitting and powerful for his character.

“That Guy” is supposed to be Abby Hoffman. That scene was based on the real anti war rally where a clean cut veteran stepped up to speak and the mic went out.

At least he actually had lines. I thought it was like the joke Judd Nelson was telling in the breakfast club or the object in the briefcase in pulp fiction. There was no whole joke so no punchline and no actual object in the briefcase.

I am a 33 year old Native American guy and let me tell you...this movie, The Color Purple, a League of Their Own, Sister Act and Big Fish always make me cry because I grew up with these films. It is, not only a nostalgia thing, but a close to my heart thing. It is okay to cry and watch films that do so! Guys, go ahead and cry 😭😭😭

Hello Niles... A movie I think you would like is a Man called Horse. It was about a soldier who becomes captured by Indians and some how turns to his favor. He becomes part of the tribe. He trys to start a family. Many emotions in this movie, good and bad.

@@prayingmantis6777A Man Called Horse was remade as The Revenant. I prefer the original with Richard Harris. It's from a short story by Dorothy Johnson, who also penned The Hanging Tree and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence, among other stories. All three became classic films.

I went to this movie as a young teenager. Changed my life. Only movie I’ve ever been to that the crowd gave a standing ovation!!! People were cheering and crying . It was awesome.

My wife was abused as a child and people in those situations often feel they don't deserve love or good things to happen to them. It can take many years to get over those feelings and accept that they are not at fault and deserve good things in their life.

Correct. My best friend was the exact same way, so very loving towards others, but just couldn’t truly love herself because of the abuse and trauma she’d gone through. Her personality and life circumstances were extremely similar to Jenny’s. Unfortunately, she didn’t get the chance to heal. She more or less checked out mentally months before she accidentally OD’d on heroin. It was basically a passive suicide. That’s why I can’t stand when people stigmatize folks like Jenny or my bff and call them “bad people.” They weren’t bad people, they didn’t hurt anyone intentionally. They needed help, understanding, and patience instead of being treated like some sort of willingly malicious monsters.

Being on the move bc of unstable households and being afraid anything she does wouldn't be good enough or would only hurt Forrest i feel like is the reasoning behind her actions. I've never had that hard dealt to me but i understand others do so ill never judge anyone off first impressions

If you don’t know anything about Gary Sinise’s personal life, it’s worth checking out. He’s an absolute Hero. His work for veterans is legendary. He builds houses for veterans, takes hundreds of families of fallen troops to Disneyland every year, and the list goes on and on.

@@mr.mcewan9261 why should "god" get the credit for what Gary Sinese has done? These are things humans do for eachother, not an imaginary deity. This reminds me of when people thank "god" after their loved one has been saved in a life saving operation. That would be the surgeons and nurses who did that. Yet "god" gets the credit.

In the film, basically every major historical social event that happened in Forrest lifetime is tied to Forrest in some way. From "watergate" to the writing of "imagine" by John Lennon, and much more. You guys are the only ones of the many ive watched who understood most of the references.

The repetition of Birds when It comes to Jenny and her depression is amazing how well integrated into the movie. From her praying to be a bird to fly away from her terrible father, to her asking Forest if she would fly if she jumped off the bridge, even the song "Free Bird" was playing when she was on drugs and almost jumped. And then when she got better, a bird's feather fell from the sky, and landed on Forest.

I think the feather was symbolic of Forrest saying that he doesn't know if we each have a destiny or just floating around accidental on a breeze or maybe it's a bit of both.. Like, he literally went wherever the wind took him, but his destiny was eventually to raise his son.

I love how the bus driver Dorothy Harris never aged. She looked the same in the beginning and the end. Unless she was the daughter, and was named after her mama. Back in the stone ages when I had to ride the bus, I remember getting on the bus. You'd sit there and become bestfriends with strangers and just talk about anything. Sometimes you'd talk about your whole life or they would theirs. I'm from a small East Texas town outside of Houston. Back then it was just a town consisting of two main roads. The bus like all buses would take forever to get there, and you'd meet so many good people, and it went like this. You'd exchange names, which church you went to, and from there it would start. Some of them you'd meet over and over again. And that's how many became long time friends from all over the city. The art of conversation has died and I miss it. Forrest Gump from the moment it premiered became an American classic.

Kurt Russell, star of the 1979 telefilm Elvis, dubbed in the speaking voice of Elvis for this film. Bubba got drafted. Forrest enlisted "for his future." Of course, Lt. Dan was astronauts with Forrest in Apollo 13. Eyes welling with tears, "I-is he smart. . . or . . .?" Although the book's author said it wasn't his intention, everything about Jenny & her situation points to AIDS. She said it was a virus and the doctors didn't know what it was, which was true in the very early '80s, when she died. That was Little Forrest 5 years before The Sixth Sense.

Yea. Jenny’s pure tragedy. Love was just messed up for her as a little child. She was the one who looked for love literally in all the wrong places, when it was always right in front of her the whole time. Hiding with drugs, sex and running away. And would ultimately kill her.

God this movie, y'all makes me cry everytime I watch it, and I've seen it dozens of times over the years. His love for Jenny is unconditional and I think that's what makes the storyline that much more heartwarming. My wife watched this movie for the first time just recently and she loved it. Awesome movie reaction to another classic! I work nights and I watch your videos because y'all's reaction vids helps me get through the night when it's slow. So, I appreciate you for that! Sending y'all positive vibes. Oh and yes that actor that played Little Forest is the kid from The sixth Sense.

@@josephcasanova1975 - Nope, it was AIDS. Back in the mid-80's, when that part takes place, doctors didn't know much about the AIDS virus and it was nearly always a death sentence.

It's refreshing to see reactors that understand Jenny's character. So many reactors hate Jenny because of how they think she treated Forrest, but they don't understand or acknowledge the reason she is the way she is.

@@GhostDaddy87 this is a fair comment. I was 10 when I first saw this movie and I hated Jenny. I watched it again at 17 and it made a lot more sense to me. I simply grew up and developed a sense of sympathy my ass hole 10 year old self didn’t have.

If Jenny acknowledges she did wrong by apologising to Forest and wishing she'd been with him instead of running away all the time, then I think it's OK for the audience to resent her a little bit too. The idea she gets a complete free pass because she has trauma is just as flawed as not taking it into consideration at all.

The feather represented this - There was a line Forrest said when he was contemplating destiny. He said he wondered if people had a destiny or if they just were floating around in the air (happenstance), and he said he believes it's a bit of both. The feather floating around ever so specifically to him represented that mixture.

Yes that is Haley Joel-Osment, the brilliant child actor from the Sixth Sense. He was much younger in Forrest Gump! So cute!! And I've read literature about how Jenny died, the author in interviews said Jenny died of Hepatitis. Back in the 80's ( I believe that's the time frame of where the movie ends), there was no cure or meditation for Hepatitis like there is today. Loved your reaction, as always Asia and BJ! 🥺🥺🥺🥺😭😭💞💞💖💖

I really loved the line his momma told him in the beginning..by saying “if God wanted us all to be the same he would have gave us all braces”. In that one line she made him think his braces were “normal” as opposed to saying “if God wanted us to all be the same he would have gave us all legs that worked” or something a bit different. It really shows how a mom (or dad) can set up the strength of a child by simply changing a word or two. The support Forrest received from his momma compared to Jenny’s life carries with them through adulthood.

One of my top five favorite movies of all time. Forrest was pure love and loved his mamma, Jenny, Bubba and Lt. Dan with all his heart. It's got everything - so funny, sad, triumphant, tragic - it's got it all. I believe Tom Hanks got the Oscar for it along with five other Oscars in 1995. Loved your reaction!

One of the most notable parts of Forrest Gump is that all the footage they used that Forrest was in is real footage they from those historic events. It was revolutionary at the time in terms of film making.

Fun fact: The actor that played young Forrest was the inspiration for the cadence of speech and accent Tom Hanks used in the film. The little boy was really from Alabama and had a strong accent, the producers wanted him to take speech lessons to change it, but Tom Hanks felt it would be easier for him to learn and imitate the boy's speech. He said he would spend several hours talking to the boy everyday and recorded their conversations until he perfected it.

First time I saw this movie I was like 5 years old. I remember when it reached end of the film and the wind lifted that feather back up into the air and that music started playing I got really emotional and started crying and I didn't know why. Thinking back I still really don't know why it was such an emotional moment for me.

One of the little details in this movie I love that seems to get missed is when Forrest states "After only 5 years of playing football, I got a degree!" -- a typical university degree is 4 years, so it's a subtle nod to both Forrest having a lower IQ and the university taking advantage of another year of Forrest on the team. This book/movie has some really smart writing.

my favourite part and it gets me EVERY time… is during the ending right before forrest meets his son and jenny reveals that he’s forrest’s. and forrest’s eyes are filled with tears and he communicates his question to jenny asking if he is like him (a person with a lower intelligence). 🥺😭😭😭. he’s revealing to the audience that he is aware of his differences. and the waterworks come every time.

Breaking again… I know you’re hurting more than anything. Alcohol is a way to numb your pain.. understand this so well last week my dad died in my arms due to alcohol .. he made it through that but I don’t think I’ll have him much longer.. everyone mad and demanding he DO SOMETHING! I am the one that felt him cold sweating and limp! Also the only one NOT MAD ! I understand.. he hates this and hurting us more than anything! But his emotional pain is unbearable to him! I am still in shock and not sure what way is up! I wish I could say something to help my dad.. I feel the same way about you…. The passing of someone so precious.. but YOU ARE PRECIOUS TOOOO! I won’t say anything else.. just know .. The line that always gets me (there's SO many great lines in this movie!) is when she's sick and he's telling her about running and all of the beautiful places and things he saw...and Jenny says, "I wish I could've been there." Forrest softly and honestly says, "You were." 😥❤ I lose it every time!

You just watched my favorite movie. I think Jenny considered Forrest too good for her. My son has Autism and he has been told by others that he reminds them of Forrest Gump. He says he can certainly relate to him. He struggles with some basic things like math, but he's brilliant in other topics like geography, history, paleontology, and zoology. I call him my animal encyclopedia because instead of video games, he studies about all kinds of animals and their anatomy, behaviors, etc. Thank you for watching this!!!

50:39 It signified Gump's question about fate and destiny, whether you just float around randomly throughout your life like a feather on the wind, or not. The feather also touches people's lives, spends some time with them then moves on, just like we do with the people we meet. Wow, one of the best reactions to this film I've seen. One of my favorite things about this movie is the theme of love that runs through it. Not necessarily just romantic love, but familial love, brotherly love, and soul love. All of his successes in his life were brought about because of his love towards others or because of others love towards him. It is a beautiful message.

Just wanted to give my take on the feather: I think it's more symbolic of Forest's journey as he never really had a destination he was aiming for, but instead he just kind of "let the wind take him" so to speak which is very similar to how a feather may end up wherever its at

One of the big takeaways from the movie is that after everything Forrest goes through he never changes. Every protagonist usually goes through something through their story that creates a change in them. Forrest is the vehicle taking us through history.

Yeah, her father's abuse taught her from a young age that she was not worthy of real love. It got ingrained in her as a child that, if even her daddy can't love her enough not to hurt her, how could she be good enough for anyone else? Poor kids in those situations always internalize what happens to them, blaming themselves instead of their abusers.

I really appreciate that the two of you completely understood about how messed up Jenny was because of her childhood abuse and trauma. I’ve seen other reactors get mad at her, and dislike her for being “mean” to Forrest. She wasn’t being mean, she was just a very troubled person who had a terrible childhood, except for her friendship with Forrest. Unfortunately, even the best friend in the world, cannot compensate for the abuse experienced by a child.

2 things can be true at the same time. She did treat him like sh*t AND she was messed up. That's why she felt the need to apologize towards the end. Forrest let everything just roll off his back but had that been a typical person, half the things she did would've crushed the man. A regular person asks her to marry him and she turns him down, that's heartbreaking by itself. Then she crawls into bed, does the deed and takes off for years without a word. Oops, forgot she also let him miss out on the first 5-6 years of his son's life and only told him once she was sick and needed him to support the child once she died. But yeah, she had a messed up childhood, I'll give her that...

Jenny didn't "owe" Forrest a marriage or a relationship. She never asked Forrest to love her. She never used him. She was a friend to him and protected him as much as she could. Forrest was right. Jenny didn't know what love is. She was too busy running from her pain to learn to love. Once she realized how messed up she was, she left to get help. If you notice, she told the taxi driver she wasn't running this time. A lot of people are angry because she didn't tell Forrest about his son. She did. She wrote him many letters but Forrest was off running across America and didn't get them. As soon as he got her letters, he came to find her. PSA: Just because someone loves you, doesn't mean you owe them a relationship. That's not love; that's a business contract that you didn't sign up for. Jenny owed it to herself to heal before she destroyed anyone's life. Whoever gives love as freely as Forrest, deserves someone who can love as freely in return. Jenny knew that. She left because she really loved him.

Every time I see a reaction to this movie, I watch it with a certain amount of trepidation, wondering if it's going to end up being another hour of people hating on Jenny. I'm so grateful for your compassionate hearts- that you could see that she was hurting and scarred from her past trauma, and that she didn't understand real love because she didn't experience it growing up, and that she's not trying to hurt Forrest. Thank you guys for this beautiful reaction! It's one I can come back to now anytime I come across one of the other kind.

This is what I always say! I know it's hard to comprehend that level of damage if you weren't abused growing up, but it's played out right on the screen and people still don't see it! As much as I love Forrest it was Jenny's story of finally learning to love through her child and then finally being able to give and receive love with Forrest that stayed with me! ❤️

The shot of Forrest walking away from the tree at the end was not scripted or CGI. Those birds just happened to fly into the tree at the perfect time, and they caught it on camera. It’s why he stops and looks back. I always cry my eyes out at that part. Jenny is always so misunderstood. It brought ACTUAL tears to my eyes that y’all didn’t see her as the villain. She was a damaged person. But, Forrest always loved her regardless. ❤️ Beautiful reaction ❤ and the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co is down on Decatur Street 😎 have a couple of friends that work there 🤓 oh! It means way more to me than it should that YOU TWO are the only ones I've ever seen react to this movie that don't just shit on Jenny. Jenny is my favorite character of the movie. She's complicated, traumatized, self sabotaging, all the things that all of us are to one extent or another. She isn't evil. She loves Forrest, but she believes she doesn't deserve his love and she also believes she will harm him by being in his life. This movie is golden all around. But the Jenny character is one that is absolutely tragic. Even when I was young and watched this movie, I recognized how sad her life was. Nowadays, it frustrates me when I see people misconstrue her character. I think about innocent Forrest saying that Jenny's dad was always loving on her and touching her. And they run into the field and kneel and Jenny says "dear God, please make me a bird, so I can fly, fly far, far away from here". That scene and that prayer has stuck with me from the moment I watched this movie.

No, she isn't evil. She just took a Loooong time to settle down, she was girl bossing it. You can afford to do that when you know you have a man in the friendzone as your backup plan that you can always go back to. A woman's 30 should be spent away from the love of her life so she can gain the valuable knowledge and life lessons to be an example of what NOT to do, and your son will know it was because Mommy was experiencing summers of love, going on mind enhancing journeys through the spirit realm. Forrest was able to take advantage of his single life to garner multiple grand accomplishments despite his setbacks and many traumas. Jennys absence was all part of her grand plan, and when the time was right and Forrest is a millionaire, only then was she ready to accept him as her true love, possibly infecting him with her past experiences. Your analysis is interesting and thought provoking. I've seen this movie a million times and have never thought negatively of the Jenny character, but the points that you make are good and allow me to view her character with even more empathy and appreciation. Yeah, it makes you want to go back in time and rescue that little girl on the bus before her "destiny" (as Forrest would say) takes her where it eventually does. I also concur with you about the video hosts. They seem like really good-hearted people who have compassion and empathy for others. I hope that your destiny has taken you on a much happier path than Jenny's, and if it hasn't, here's hoping that that path will take a turn for the better.

I've seen this movie 100 times so the emotion for me is not as strong as it was, but watching Asia's reactions of laughter, tears, and compassion brought more joy and tears to my eyes than when I first watched the movie in 1994. So genuine and sincere. Asia is one of the true treasures of the Internet.💜

“I guess sometimes there just aren’t enough rocks…” (poor Jenny) And OMG do realize how iconic that shoe is?? If you are a sneaker freak, you know. So that was supposed to be Gumps fault too? His name should have been Forest, Serendipity, Gump. I CANT BELIEVE YOU LEFT OUT THE MOST IMPORTANT LINE OF THE MOVIE! “I may not be a smart man, but I know what love IS.”

I really like this movie, and its always fascinating to see people react to it. I remember Tom Hanks mentioned that the speech he gave at the Washington monument was roughly "War is dangerous. Sometimes you lose your friends, and sometimes you lose your legs. And thats all I have to say about that."

Great reaction guys! Good eye Asia for recognizing Haley Joel Osmet as the one who played in 6th Sense. He was a good actor from a very young age. You’ve actually saw Lt. Dan in The Green mile with Tom Hanks. He also played in Apollo 13 with Tom Hanks. The latter is a good movie to react to also. I really love watching you guys, and you crying at this movie shows that you recognize a good movie, and believe me when I saw that I cry each time I see this movie.

If you remember, he wondered if we had a destiny or if we floated around random on a breeze. Well, the feather represents both Jenny and her association with birds AND how his destiny was to be there with everything coming full circle... AND that we are all floating around, like feathers in a breeze. It's both, like he said by Jenny's grave
