When we were kids, my mom rented this for us. On an average day, you could find 15 (maybe 7 or 8, but it seemed like about 15 at times) neighborhood kids in our living room watching it. My dad recorded it for us and we watched it so many times the tape damn near split. This was about three summers worth. We played the video game on Nintendo, The Goonies 2 until the console was flaming hot to the touch. We spoke in Goonies to each other on a daily. And of course we were crazy about Kerri Green. So funny when Mikey calls Brand "Josh" by accident and it was left in the movie. Damn what a time to be an 80s kid. We all wanted to be on a hunt just like them.

The. We be home when the street lights came on 😂 i have been sharing this movie with my son since he was 2 and he's 13 now and we still watch it together all the time. Hi! I actually live near where this was filmed. It was filmed (almost entirely) in Astoria, Oregon. The jail in the beginning was turned into a movie museum featuring movies made in Oregon. The Walsh Family Home has kind of an interesting history. (Mikey's house) After the movie, people of course loved stopping by to photograph it. At one point, it was put up for sale and purchased by a couple who planned to turn it into a B&B (I think). Anyway, they were planning on doing some major renovating which got some negative press and attention from the community because it was such a beloved landmark. People still loved stopping by for their pictures. At one point, tourists became a bit out of control with blocking road access and leaving lots of trash in the driveways. To discourage visitors, the new owners put up big blue tarps that covered the front of the house seen from the streets along with signs telling tourists to go away and leave them alone. This went on for years and was seen by the community as being very anti-social and uncooperative given the house's history - which they were very well informed of before they purchased it. Eventually, the owners got tired of all the negativity from the community towards them and decided to quietly put the house up for sale. In January 2023, a 'super fan' of the movie from Kansas City bought the house with the intention of reviving it back to it's former movie glory - right down to the gate opening contraption. In another crazy twist - one of the new owner's childhood friends bought the house next door (Data's house) and is also a 'super fan'. 🤩 Another interesting fact is that when the boys look at the rocks through the coin, the largest rock is called 'Haystack Rock' and is located in Cannon Beach, Oregon. If you look at Cannon Beach and Astoria on a map - you would know there is NO WAY the boys biked all the way down there! lol The pirate ship really was an amazing work of art. It was a real and fully functional ship to my understanding but sadly, after the movie it was destroyed. Why? Because no one wanted it. Astoria celebrates The Goonies every summer and on occasion, some of the cast even still comes out to celebrate with the fans.

Here's an interesting story! The woman who Asia thought was Kathy Bates? She was Anne Ramsey, an actress known for Throw Momma From the Train with Billy Crystal & Danny Devito, Scrooged with Bill Murray, & Any Which Way you Can with Clint Eastwood. She actually was younger than she looked. She passed at 59 years old and was 54 when she filmed this. To put it into perspective, she is the same age that Jennifer Aniston is today. She is the same age as J-Lo, Catherine Zeta Jones, Kate Blanchette, Kristy Swanson, etc. How amazing is that?

this is one of my all time favorite films. fantastic! all the stuff was in the attic because their dad took over as curator of the museum there, and had to clean out a bunch of stuff for displays. instead of destroying it, he just stuffed it all up there. the frozen guy in the cooler was one of the victims of the gunshots the kids said was a dropped pot. they hauled the first body out while the kids watched, and the second after the kids had gone down the tunnel. the ship reveal scene was realistic as far as the kids go, they had not seen the ship and that part of the set yet, so when they all turned around and saw it, we got their real reactions. sloth was played by an old NFL lineman that had a fantastic prosthetic face that actually covered up one of his eyes, so he played the character as if he were also one-eyed. the kid who played chunk grew up to be a fit and handsome guy, a stark contrast to his younger self. sean astin (samwise gamgee in lord of the rings, rudy) went the other way, being slim as a kid, and turning out husky in adulthood. josh brolin, bran, has played a TON of films recently, including playing thanos in the avengers, and cable in deadpool 2 (the guy from the future), data (inspector gadget kid) also played short-round in indiana jones and the temple of doom, and is still close friends with harrison ford to this day.

My dad rented this for us when i was about 10 years old. Its the only movie i can ever watching back to back and literally 4x in 3 days. Then, a friend rented it and i watched it again. And probably at least 50x dince when my kids grew up. Its timeless and amazing each and every time its on.

This movie was classic growing up for me, it played just about every Christmas with my family, my parents and my sisters all together watching and quoting this movie. Even to this day my sisters in their 40s and me in my 30s. Its a movie we subjected to every new boyfriend or girlfriend growing up, even when grandkids came into the picture they watched this movie with us.

I miss the 80s so much. Imagine a time before children were depressed and kids literally had no cares in the world. No aderoll, no internet, no cell phones. As a kid having fun was all that mattered. I feel bad that kids these days will never know the comfort we felt back then.

What a classic from my era! I wanted to live in Oregon. It was magical in my view. I wanted to move there to solve mysteries and discover treasure. The greatest childhood movies belong to us 80's kids. We were resourceful, imaginative, courageous. Always on some adventure! We could play with sticks and build castles from clay, and be satisfied all day. We would tire ourselves out, being so feral. 😂 I'm grateful for this tiny window in time I had to be a child. The world seemed so full of wonderous possibilities. My generation was the last generation to be this free.

If i had to sum up my childhood growing up in the 80s, this movie is it! My brother God rest his soul, him and I watched this religiously and would go on our own goonie adventures on our bikes, we lived across from a state park and my parent would put together scavenger hunts for us and our friends.

The part where they saw the ship was the actors genuine reaction. They didn’t tell them about it until they shot the scene because they wanted the reactions to be real. The “county jail” we saw at the beginning is now home to the Oregon Flim museum showing off all the movies that were shot here in Oregon. Even though it was only shown for a small bit in the beginning, the house at the beginning is a popular tourist attraction. The current owners now allow visitors where the past owners didn’t (though I don’t blame them as there are some people who didn’t respect that it is still a private residence, despite being featured in a popular film)

I was born in the early 70's and watched this at the theatres. This movie was the big movie of its time "for kids/families". There are many child stars in this movie that are famous as adults. Josh Brolin: Thanos/Avengers (big brother) Sean Astin: The Lord of the Rings (younger brother) Corey Feldman: The burbs/stand by me/The lost boys (The one with the rubies in his mouth) Ke Hu Quan: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom ("little Inspector Gadget"), He also just recently won an Oscar last year. This is just naming a few.😃 Also forgot to mention: If you haven't watched the "BURBS" please WATCH. Amazing movie (Tom Hanks and other amazing stars are part of the cast)

Reel talk! I was 12 when this movie came out. I do confess I initially thought it was gonna be scary when I saw the skull and bones in the intro. My parental unit made me see Poltergeist in theaters so my trust level was at a 2/10.😅 This movie is a gem. I'm 50y/o and still remember every line.🤦🏽‍♀️ ❤

The kid who played Data (and Short Round from Temple of Doom) recently did a movie "Everything Everywhere All at Once" after not acting for a long time. And got an acting Oscar for a supporting role. "HEY YOU GUYS!!" was the opening line of the kids show "The Electric Company". Yes that was Cyndi Lauper. The song "The Goonies 'R' Good Enough" was made for this movie, and had a music video.

Once upon a time this was a rare to find movie. My mom special ordered a video cassette of this from Suncoast in the mall and got it for us. We watched this constantly, wore out the video and since I’ve had it on DVD, Blu-ray and UHD Blu-ray… definitely a favorite. Fun fact - former Oakland Raider John Matuzak played Sloth. Spent hours per day in makeup to become the “it” with a heart of gold. I swear I’ve seen this so many times that I can quote it in full… great reaction as always.
