I sent him this video and he said we'll have to try it I thought it looked like the perfect recipe to start with. I was raised by my grandmother, who was one of ten kids raised Dunkard (similar-ish to Amish) in the middle of Nebraska. When WWII broke out she called off marrying the boy she was expected to marry from two farms over and left for CA, became a literal Rosie the Riveter working for Boeing, then joined the Navy as a nurse where she met my Pops. She was one of the most incredible humans I've ever met. She and my daughter (now 11) were just the absolute best of friends; my Gram was helping me raise her until she passed at 95yo a couple years ago. The loss was expected, but has still staggered us. Why am I telling you this? Well, one....I will take any opportunity to tell anyone who will listen about this phenomenal woman whom I loved so incredibly deeply. But two, she passed her love of baking onto me, and she and I both to my daughter. Some of my greatest memories are in the kitchen with my Gram, and I'm hopeful my daughter will be able to say the same thing about me someday. It took me until adulthood to realize the correlation between cooking and people with a bit more creativity in them--my Gram definitely passed that on to me as well. I was probably in my 30s before I truly realized that not everyone grew up doing 947 different types of crafts. 😂 It's kinda weird that the things I treasure so much are the things that seemed so mundane and unremarkable as a kid....but I spent many hours of my life with my Grandma at my side gently helping me figure out how to *make* things, and that is now helping me to mold my daughter. I love that you encourage your's in the kitchen; I promise you that someday it will mean the absolute world to her. It's been a true light for us in a grief that seems to have no end at all.
