Drago, I'm not convinced you have ever played sports because this exchange was mild as fuck. The ref is the one that lost her shit. She should have called him to the side and gave warning but instead she put him on blast in front of everyone and elevated the situation. I don't agree with any criticism towards children that isn't constructive but her response leaves alot to be desired.

Are we watching the same video? She starts of by blowing the whistle and then called him out in front of everyone. Her "warning" was what I was talking about. This is another example of a irrational female on a power trip, who thinks she is the voice of reason. Her job is to call the game, not police the people on the sideline for every comment they make under their breath. I say under his breath because I could barely hear a word he said and could understand her completely. She seemed to be itching to boot him from the beginning. Maybe that wasn't the whole video but from what I saw she blew it out of proportion.

@@JonDoe-007 A U10, probably volunteer or at most minimum wage paid ref doing a very difficult job so 20+ kids can have a healthy, safe place to get out their energy and have fun, who has to be the responsible one and an authoritative figure in an altercation with someone who appears to be twice her age and 3x her size. I've done a few games, both in center and as an AR. I honestly didn't like her here. It sounded like he quipped about a foot fault. Clearly it was a foot fault and I'd have called it even in U10. Our league placed special emphasis on throw-ins, maybe others are different. Personally, I'd have let him slide assuming he hadn't been chippy the rest of the game, which obviously I can't see. Happy to be corrected though if I didn't hear something else he said before she engaged. One thing we were clear on was you do not engage after you eject, despite this ejection being very soft in my opinion, I haven't seen the rest of the game so maybe this guy was a dick from the opening whistle. You call time, eject, walk all three refs to the center spot, and wait for the person to leave to avoid EXACTLY THIS ESCALATION. Anything further is a call to the Police and a trespass. They can leave in cuffs if needed, but that's not on me.

I think I should probably expand on when I would eject a parent. I look for a pattern of comments or disrespect. I usually ignore it if it's towards me unless I'm the AR, then I report it to the center. My thinking here is that AR's can't get away from abuse, and need to be protected by the center ref. In center I just ignore the parents unless they go at one of my AR's, then it's a warning and an ejection. I've found that in 9 cases out of 10 listening and educating the parent works often they don't know every rule. I've been amazed at how effective "this is the rule, this is what I called, we've got 3 refs on the field, and if we missed it, we're human" is at defusing a situation. If you can teach the rules maybe they don't yell at the next ref. When they continue, I get the coach and go to the parent. "I've explained the rules and the call, and you've continued. It's time for you to go". I let their coach deal with it, and as noted take the refs to center circle to create distance. If the coach needs help then that's when a call is made to the local PD which is on site for games.

She did not handle the situation well. She'd need to empty the whole stadium if she were to officiate a serious game with that kind of attitude. If the guy was using profanity or obstructing the play, then ofcourse you can remove him but not for some childish banter

A referee is supposed to keep their cool and be professional. It's the main focus/ key to their job. I know because Im a referee myself. She literally had a nervous breakdown over nothing. If you were to stop a game and argue with a fan/parent over something so petty as sideline banter, than you'd be kicking out people every 5 min. If the individual is unruly, using profanity, or otherwise impeding the game to some degree, then you swiftly address the issue by issuing a stern warning and if he/she continues you expell them. You don't argue and you definitely don't breakdown emotionally. She's emotionally unstable and you're ridiculous for defending her.

Back then? It continues to the present, and will continue in the future. Until leagues, clubs, and\or other parents put the pressure on losers like this guy, it will not end. Now, some leagues and clubs are taking steps - suspensions for parents who get removed from the touchline, fines, even requiring parents who have been removed to officiate games before they're allowed back to the fields. It's a small number, but it's a start; and if it catches on, it could really make a difference.

Also think about the poor kid playing who would have been highly embarrassed by their parents actions. The U10 games are actually some of the worst to ref. The fields are smaller and the parents are on top of the action; and many haven't learned how to chill out yet like for the older kids.

I reffed soccer for 23 years as an adult. My training taught me to have the coach deal with the parent. I admire her composure, but she spent too long talking to dad, almost goading him. Giving pops a piece of her mind is dangerous nowadays. I mentored many young refs and would have told her to instruct him to leave, halt the game, advise the coach of her decision and have him/her make sure pops left the area. For her sake, she better have documented the incident objectively and completely and presented a full report to her ref assignor/coordinator and to the league or tournament director. That's the only way she can cover herself and ensure that someone in authority deals with the problem.

We had a father like this at one of the youth football orginazations I coached with, we (the coaching staff) ended up forcefully removing him from the field and eventually he ended up in the back of a police suv.

It's not the job of the other parents to get a beat down from an immature one. It got handled correctly by the correct person.

And even in NFL games, when fans break the rules they get kicked out. Happens fairly often for many reasons. And those fans paid big bucks to get in. This is a young woman ref in a kid's league with no security of any kind. Apparently you have never been involved with these kid's leagues but they have rules governing crowd behavior. A fan who breaks the rules can be asked to leave and the guy left. He was warned before being kicked out. I'm not sure why you think this guy should be allowed to violate the rules and disturb the players and other fans. This has nothing to do with the ref being offended, it has to do with the kids playing the game, being able to focus and not having one fan disrupt the game which required the ref to enforce the rules. If the ref didn't have the authority to kick the guy out, he wouldnt have left.

I umpired my brothers games a lot and one time I had to toss my mother for chirping at me and threatening to slap me, so I laid the charge of threatening an official. Dad understood because he played ball so after the game he just ran me and a friend to my friends house after we got paid, Before he did drop us off, We decided to go into Burger king for a bite and we further discussed the situation, Dad asked me what I figures would happen so I told him that we'll know when the head league officials, He assured me that I was in the right, mom should not have been causing a disturbance at the game. My Brother started going to games with his teammates. I apologized to my brother for moms behavior, my brother told me no worries. I didn't go back home until the league disciplined my mother.

I'm the director of a youth sports organization for the past 55 years.. I maybe an old chunk of coal in the eyes of the youth but I still enjoy refereeing from time to time if my arthritis isn't flaring up. Parents and kids can really act out of line during the games. I never enjoy tossing a kid from the game, but I do enjoy throwing them over my shoulder, spinning around in circles real fast, then throwing them up in the air and as they drop down I hit them with the stone cold stunner.

While working a young ladies middle school game there was a fan that was using such profanity that I just had to ask him to "cool it' at half time. I was low key about it but he decided to cuss me out. I quietly went to the AD and asked him to eliminate this fan. He did and that was the end. I found out later that a man 2 rows up from him was his principal. I have always wondered what happened after the game.

Hard to tell exactly from the video, but after she warned him about the sarcastic comments he was making he definatly says something about her voice, and I guess that was the final straw for her.

@@steverenom.299 not really cause hes parents must've been worse. Happens when people aren't challenging themselves. He was legit sitting like ig he was in a couch in his living room. An adult who was supporting their children would be standing proud.
