Kenneth Frampton is an architect, critic, historian, and previously Ware Professor of Architecture at the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation at Columbia University (1972-2021). His most important works include Modern Architecture: A Critical History (Thames & Hudson, 1980; 5th edition 2020), Studies in Tectonic Culture: The Poetics of Construction in Nineteenth and Twentieth Century Architecture (MIT Press, 1995), and The Other Modern Movement (Yale University Press,2021).
Frampton will reflect on the historical and theoretical entanglements of architecture with place, the public realm, cultural identity, urban landscape and the environment, as well as on the question of “predicament” of architecture in the neo-liberal, capitalist world since the 1980s and well into the new Millennium.

Tremendous lecture! K. Frampton is always a great speaker. Combining his critical regionalism chapter with Sola Morales´"weak architecture" approach signifies to him a way for a truthful practice of architecture. Demystifying the erroneous notion that - only new is good and old is not - and moving away from the software-generated building, instant photographic generic garbage still in vogue in universities, exhibitions, and media towards a more grounded, material-sensitivity, context-aware architecture.

Critical Regionalists must redefine their environment as the spirit of the community has been dimmed by Avant Garde.

The only Architecture School to accredit students in the State of New Mexico has the worst program. There isn't direction, all concepts for students are social issues, and they don't posit enough critical thinking into our local environment to have us even debate or argue the concepts after a lecture. It's purely a mill for two or three studios to get cheap labor at some effective rate.
