This Refold Guide will help you to understand Matt vs Japan's Refold a bit better than you would have. I will explain the roadmap to be able to achieve success in language learning. In this video, Stage 1 is explained in detail as well as the substages A, B, and C. This guide can also be used with Immerse with Migaku tools. Note that the Refold Method is the continuation of the Mass Immersion Approach (MIA) and that Refold was co-founded also by Ethan. Any Refold Japanese Updates or Progress Updates refer to Refold as portraited here in this video. Many topics are covered here such as Anki, Immersion, Sentence Mining, AJATT. This method works for European as well as Asian languages such as Spanish, German, French, Refold Japanese, Migaku Japanese, Mandarin and so on. Stay tuned for other videos on Refold Languages: At Refold, the mission is to demolish the language barrier.

@@josephlang2586 Long story short: I was diagnosed with a heavy form of depression and had to focus on getting treatment instead of language learning. Then I also realized that I'm trans and for that reason (not only that reason) decided that I want to move to Germany, so now I learn German instead.

Amazing video! I’m learning German too, did you start learning German totally through immersion from the beginning? What level do you have?
@amiothenes

In the beginning, I was learning the most frequent words in Anki and doing immersion but I understood nothing of course. I later got more and more of German that I started to understand better until I started to understand my first German KZfaq video. I was also mining sentences. Now I think I'm late Stage 2 now turning to Stage 3 on Refold. How about you? When did you start learning German?

I apologize if this is a dumb question!.. I'm using Refold method to acquire Japanese. So, if I'm being right here. You acquire a language through Comprehensible input? Though, I find that to be really boring since I can't focus much on it. And, what I found to be engaging (for me) was watching Slice of Life anime, despite its being incomprehensible. Is this okay to do? (Edit: By Comprehensible input, I meant by watching videos/content made for toddlers in that target language. Since I'm only 3 weeks in using Refold.
@amiothenes

Totally okay to do! Continue doing what you're doing and have fun. Good luck with Japanese!

If i had listened to it when i was starting everything would have been waay easier. I spent like 10 months of my life studying the "common" or traditional way lol. After a few months with AJATT and MIA i found out the textbook i was using was shit ( i mean, it was very output based and the language was very unnatural) Btw,i really liked this video, it's very good explained. PS: will you make a video about how to find good immersion content? Or did you already make one? Because t i'm having a lot of problems finding compelling content. 8:00 lmao

Great video. How do you know when to move through the different stages?
@amiothenes
@amiothenes 3 жыл бұрын
Great Question. I will give some tips on how to do so next video. Quickly said: to move from Stage 1 to Stage 2 you need to be comfortable in the writing system and spelling to phonology rules, as well as being comfortable to not understand (or to understand ) your target language. I would also need to know the 1000 most common words and get them on Anki. This is not a hard line set in stone but good principles to know at what Stage one is at. Hopefully that helped. I'll give more detail Stage 2 to 3 soon.

Wait u said something about passive immersion not working? Please elaborate? You said something along the lines of it not being proven or that you lacked the studies.
@amiothenes
@amiothenes 2 жыл бұрын
Well, it does work, but not as efficiently. For the same duration, active immersion would always bring you more benefits than passive immersion. Passive immersion is great when one doesn't want or can't bring in the effort needed in active immersion.

American here with Spanish as a target language. I wanted to curl into a ball and cry in the shower after you showed how many Spanish-speaking nations there are. Ugh. It's true. Choosing a language should be enough--but I also had to choose an accent! What a pain. Thanks, history, for making my neighbors to the south speak such a widely spoken language!

Don’t worry too much. Pick the Latin Spanish or the one from Spain and focus on one of them. But also make sure to listen to different accents from different Spanish speaking countries without loosing track of the Spanish you’re learning.

I'm a native Spanish speaker and it wasn't a pain in the ass for me to pick an English accent to focus on even tho there are many English speaking countries out there, I picked American English, problem solved. Do you want to sound European? Chose Spaniard accent, want to sound like a Hispanic American person? Choose Mexican accent. There, problem solved.

This makes no sense. What's the timeline from learning stage 1A. I understand you're supposed to consume but what the hell does active learning mean paying attention more?
@amiothenes
@amiothenes 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear that you are confused about matters discussed in the video. Active learning is a contrast to passive learning, where all your attention is spread only to the task at hand. Passive learning means that one is multi-tasking etc.

This whole Refold thing has never convinced me, specially because it was created by just some guy, granted, said guy got really good at Japanese but that's it, he ain't no scientist or something, and basically all he tells you is to use Anki and listen to content in your target language, which is common sense and what I did to learn English, and I like to believe I'm decent at English, even tho I didn't follow a guide to get there.

I wouldn't say it's common sense. It makes sense, but many people don't realize it's even an option. I didn't realize until I talked to someone who learned english by watching movies, and then I started looking into it.
