Graham and Shannon have been dating for 5 years and currently live together in Bend, OR. They’ve each had professional athletic careers in two very different sports: Ultimate Frisbee and Alpine Climbing. This is the story of how they share their respective sports with each other, and how the idea of learning to mountain bike was inspired by their community and environment.
Together they will step back into the mindset of beginners as they learn to mountain bike. With crashes and frustrations alongside the joy of progression, they whoop and swear their way through this comedic and painful learning curve.
With some (but probably not enough) experience under their belts, they head for the remote hills of Eastern OR to test out their new skills. Inspired by friends’ stories of mountain bike packing in wild parts of the world, they explore the wilderness in their backyard while seeking out engaging terrain to shred.
As they wrap up their journey, they reflect on the experiences of learning to bike and how it helped them build a stronger relationship with each other and their environment.

Now, they’d get gravel bikes. The full spectrum from road to single track, fire trail to urban broken pavement. I love my Giant Revolt. It gets me off my criterium race bike and back to the heart of cycling; exploring.

Well produced video good job! - oh i remember these days, you have taken me back to when i first met my now wife 20 years ago. i cant wait until our kids, as much as i love them, are old enough to stay at home by themselves because we have already been planning some riding tours. And yes there is going to be some major ups and major downs, but when you strip everything else back, 'its you and me babe, i got you and me', to get through.

I biked the Ozarks (Missouri between Branson and just above Springfield - Sac River, Busiek both sides of the highway ) frequently in the winter (road bike summer) I preferred the toe cage with sandals. Me feet would dry quickly after getting wet and the cage protected my toes.

So bike packing a remote corner of Oregon as beginners didn’t destroy their relationship. If they can avoid clashing down the line as two extreme type A personality hipsters, they should enjoy many years of happy life together. Loved the video, to be honest. Wish you guys the best. Pretty sure neither one of you would last half the car ride to get there with me.

You can't do that unless you own a $15k bike...jeez. I just got back into biking at age 55 and the amount of bike snobs out there nowadays almost makes me want to quit. I have triple front chainrings, flat pedals, make my own coffee and don't drink IPA....so I'm a loooooooooser in their world.

MARK I HEAR YOU!!. My main bike has Triple chain rings , cost me £280 bike from Ebay. It will go anywhere. I used to ride 100 - 150 miles a day, 5 days a week as a city bike courier from late 80's through to the mid 90's. The bikes were well simple back then. We just got on with it and I loved it. Still love biking, I ride everyday. I'll go bike packing with a rear rack and panniers, real strong and simple.

I'm curious to know how you got the bikes, gear, camera equipment, and all the stuff not seen in the video to and from the ride. Cars, trucks, planes maybe. I appreciate enjoying the natural beauty of this planet on a bike ride but don't think that compromising the eco-sphere just to inspire sales and profit (REIs or yours) is anything to applaud. You'd jump at the chance to be flown around the globe to make vids about how pure and cleansing riding a bike can be I bet. Glad to see you got a paying gig, but if it was really about the bike ride you'd just ride out your front door and explore Oregon... it's plenty beautiful. I'm sure you could figure out a way to make money from it even if it isn't spectacular enough for REI.
