The cost of long-term care and burden of providing it have led to a crisis for seniors. Join NPT for this Aging Matters documentary as we look for answers to address the recent caregiving crisis.
By 2030, 1 in 5 U.S. residents will reach retirement age, and a majority will need some form of long-term care during their lifetimes. But the high cost of care and a shortage of caregivers are leaving older adults and their families with few places to turn. How we address the caregiving crisis today will determine our quality of life in the years ahead.

Since they were born, members of the Baby Boomer generation have played a big role in shaping American culture. In 2011, the first of the boomers turned 65. As they age, the vast number of people entering their senior years will undoubtedly have an impact on how our communities understand and respond to the needs of older citizens. By the year 2020, Tennessee's population of people between the ages 65-74 is expected to grow by almost 48%.
Aging Matters is a community-based conversation about what older citizens in Middle Tennessee need to optimize their quality of life and how the community needs to prepare for our aging population. The series focuses on issues such as caregiving, finances, end-of-life, dementia and Alzheimer’s through documentaries, town halls, panel discussions, short form updates, community conversations, and screenings.

I can't believe this only has 904 views. I ended up bringing my late Mom from a small town in the US to live with me in a city near Toronto Canada before Covid. She had Alzheimers. I was able to keep working for the first couple of years as challenging as that was with her irregular sleep schedule. I started sleeping in the same room after she wandered out early one winter morning. She then fell (I was with her at the time). She broke her pelvis and was on bedrest for 8 weeks. I ended up leaving my full time job in a LTC facility because I couldn't manage both. Mom never qualified for health coverage in Canada. I had looked at memory care in the Buffalo area. When covid happened I was glad Mom was with me because if she had been in LTC in Canada I would not have been able to visit for months due to lockdown restrictions. If she was in the US I couldn't have crossed the border. She died in my arms. I won't get over the financial hit. I plan on not becoming a burden to my son if I develop dementa.💔🇨🇦

Aging needs to be re-looked at as normal and the aged and their families need education on the quality of life over quantity using palliative care instead of the medical model . Aging and dying needs to be normalised🙏

The wisdom of the ages is that people live in groups/tribes of their family. Not as a single person. Why? Think about it...why... After 75, anything can happen to that person...
