Frustrated with what to do when traditional parenting methods and typical parenting advice just don't seem to be working? Maybe your child or teen is struggling with anxiety, self-esteem issues, social anxiety, and self-doubt. Here's insight into neurodiversity to help support the family bond. Allison Lee Burgess is a Licensed Psychotherapist, Professional Speaker, and Parent Coach.
For nearly a decade she has specialized in working with highly sensitive, anxious, and spirited teens and their parents to help families stay emotionally connected through even the most intense times.
Allison has helped hundreds of teens and their families, she has counseled members of the U.S. Figure Skating Team, and has done speaking engagements, presentations, and webinars to private, public, and charter schools.
Allison is a single working mom and proud parent of three fabulous teenagers. She has a private practice in Pacific Palisades, California and also coaches clients virtually across the country. Thank you Allison for sharing your personal and professional experiences. "We don't know what we don't know" is a very forgiving way to look at how I parented. Your insight on identifying children's stresses or anxieties (as well as my own) and helping them through their emotional challenges rather than the "task" was a huge takeaway. I feel this info can help me to become more connected as parent/child being on the same team and wanting the same outcome - feeling understood, connected, esteem, security and loved. I wish I heard this 15 years ago. But now I know what I can do in the future and, as you said, not only with my children but also with my family, my friends and colleagues. Thank you.

Allison’s talk makes a ton of sense. My son struggles in school with traditional learning. I wish everyone understood how hard it is for him!

8:45 Every nd child has a unique set and degree of symptoms. You can't postpone or cancel the learning of activities suchas as swimming or driving because "your disorder says you're not supposed to be good at it."
