In Northern Mongolia, a sacred alliance exists between people, ancestor spirits and reindeer. We are invited in a family of Dukha reindeer nomads during their migration through the forests of Mongolia's Hovsgol province. The oldest Dukha, is a divine seer, a 96-year old shaman, called Tsuyan. She is the link between the healing songs of the forest ancestors, her people and their reindeer. To live in harmony with them, people had to learn to respect nature and animals and to pass down their beliefs, from generation to generation, by invoking the song-lines of their deceased ancestors.

96 years old and still riding and running the reindeer! Absolutely wonderful to watch such an amazing legend such as her. Such wisdom and insight she carrys. I wouldn't survive 10 minutes in this environment even with the tools we have nowadays, where these folks thrive and survive from such an unforgiving land, and with no tools of today. Truly masters with their surroundings. May the way of life for these nomadic people continue with their traditional way of life. May they be prosperous and with good fortune

Ya!.. She is amazingly physically and mentally able. Almost a full set of teeth! Sometimes I wonder if people are exaggerating age, but I wonder if she's even older than 96! I'm guessing her main diet has been reindeer meat and milk products? She was chewing on what looked like little seeds or nuts. Hope she's doing well 🙏

Her laugh is so infectious and sweet. I have a feeling she will have got to her ancestors following the reindeer Hurd in the sky though. I’m no doctor but it looked as though she may have been suffering from a skin cancer on her cheek. I’ve seen it before and that’s exactly how it looked.

I am an old Nuenonne man of Lunawanna Allonha and Lutruwita. My respect to to the Rain deer people, may the spirit's of your ancestors always be with you and guide and protect you and your heritage and culture. Our culture, lands and languages were stolen and our people almost exterminated, never trust the words of those who say they want to help you. Thank you to those that uploaded this video, to show us our brother's and sisters far away.

Love the kids. It doesn’t matter where you are in the world nothing changes. "it was an accident!" ☺ and adults telling them to stop messing around. Since I moved to America I feel I have become a stranger to the comforting thought of my own ancestors watching over me although I pray to them all the time. It's nice to see other people's still so in touch with theirs.

Tuva became part of the Soviet Union in 1944, not 1921. Though it was basically bossed by the soviets from 1921. Also, what's this about a tribe of horsemen 8000 years ago? They domesticated horses a couple of millennia before anybody else did, but then thought "Nah, bollocks to horses, let's forget them and ride reindeer instead"? Seems a little unlikely. Excellent documentary apart from those minor points though, thank you very much for it :)

the Russians provided reindeer for our people, my great grandfather William Mangilaluk our chief at the time wanted reindeer for sustenance and a new way to live and survive, had to be in the early 1900 hundreds the federal government wanted a treaty with our people but they rejected the settlement, at the time a muskrat pelt was 8 or 9 dollars, it has been told that Mangilaluk said why should we sell the land for less than a muskrat pelt, but he had asked for reindeer in return they Inuvialuit allow the Canadian to explore our land for resources. and build schools and a hospital up here, we owe the Russians our gratitude, this documentary is wonderful, so rich with history and shamanism, we had our own shamans but it was outlawed by the churches and has since been underground practiced only
