1:13 We have an old style boat as well and it has the same problem with following seas getting in to the engine through the exhaust. We have a shut off valve at the thru-hull where the exhaust exits the hull but it is difficult to get to so we don`t like to use it in case we need to start the engine fast. What we came up with for a solution is a "duck-bill" on the outside of the exhaust thru-hull. This is a simple funnel shaped ruberised canvas material sewn with the small end big enough to slide over the exhaust outlet. We attach this with a hose clamp and it just flops along in the water in a flat 'V shape'. When the engine is running the duck bill naturally opens and lets the exhaust out but when a wave hits from the stern the duck bill just folds over and water can't get in. We make the duck bill ourselves but we did have to epoxy a short pvc pipe to the outside of the exhaust so we have something to attach the duck bill to. Cheers

Get a flat round magnet about 2 to 2.5 in across andplace on outside of motor under on oil pan next to drain, this willcatch flingsand such, remove before oil change then replace, it will make yur engine last much longer... this and Val voline, just the good stuff bro !!

Not sure if someone else has mentioned this but to high pressure bleed you can open the decompression levers at the top of the cylinders so the engine won't try to start while bleeding the injectors. It also makes it easier for the starter to turn engine without the compression on.. At least that works for me on my 2gm (not a 2gm20). Cheers on the repairs!
@SailorJames
@SailorJames 10 ай бұрын
The compression levers have nothing to do with the high pressure pump and no you can not bled to the injectors that way on a 2GM20

This is cool to see. The very first video I saw of yours was you installing that engine in your boat in LA! From there I followed you all along until you got to Hawaii, that was through a tough time for you with a last minute before you leave breakup that was painful (we could SEE it on you and hear it in your voice); then losing your rudder but FINDING a way to limp into harbor in Hawaii…. Amazing job! But after Hawaii, my life switched up on me and I only watched the odd video here and there. Now I’ll have to go back and catch up for sure. But seeing this video with you once again installing this same engine back in after a rebuild is ironic. But I HAVE to say, this is a MUCH DIFFERENT man installing this engine. Damn you look SO MUCH healthier, happier, more at peace than the man doing this is an LA harbor. What an AWESOME sight to see really! I think the only thing that would make it better is if your brother flew in to help you scrape the bottom of boat after you finish the install! 😂 That would be really cool to see you and him diving under again! Listen man, CONGRATS! You’ve obviously come very far here and your journey must have been so rewarding, it shines off of you! I’m gonna head backwards now to see what I’ve missed… have to try to binge a bit so I can catch back up to you. Well done! 🤠👍🏼☮️☮️

thanks for showing how to do this. My 1979 29' Miller Marine looks very much the same and also has the engine reachable only via the cabin in a similar way (but even more to aft). The Albin engine is fine (so far) and gearbox too (prev owner thought it was faulty). The real problem is with the cutlass bearing, not allowing the propshaft to turn easy, it takes a lot of power to turn it. Luckily I live near a boat repair shop where I can take her out. That's the only way to service a cutlass unfortunately! Best of winds!

Water reversion is a common problem. The risers are supposed to prevent it but sometimes don't. Flapper helps but a seacock is the only way to be sure. Change that oil after a few hours and you're off to new adventures. Good Luck!

You should throttle gently up and down on a fresh light off after rebuild to coax as much oil up onto the rings as you. IF you have a fresh cam installed that can present issues because breaking in a new cam involves keeping the engine at higher rpm for like 20 minutes to insure the lifters seat properly to the cam. On a build with a new cam you throttle up and down only in a higher RPM spectrum. It'll be fine though. Sounded like a nice rebuild to me. You will hopefully be good for 6000+ hours as long as you keep the sea water out of the thing. Sounded like you are at the end of your liner size. Had you known earlier you could have pulled the injectors, pumped the sea water from the liners, added fresh water into them and pumped that out and then changed your engine oil and been good to go for quite a while longer on the initial rebuild without having to max out your liner over-bore. But,,,,,,,live and learn is generally how this shit works.

I'm surprised. Most Yamaha's have sleeves now days. Thinking it will run another 20 years. I think the one situation I would want to cure that seemed to plague all you folks (Holly ect) was getting salt water in the wrong places. Controlling that salt water has to happen. Three people had that problem, 3 too many I think. It would be a huge concern for me. Did I copy that was a dual cylinder (yes of course it was) ? What is the model number ? It sure looks good. I've had to force the fuel all the way to the injectors and then tighten them when it arrives. Works good. Sounds absolutely beautiful ! I'm now a patron of Holly and Brian Old Sea Dog. After things settle down (I made changes) I'll see if I can add you. I'm trying to set my limit to $20 monthly for everyone.
