• Top 10 Radio Controlle...
This video shows crashes/fails of 3D radio controlled RC helicopters which can be dangerous if not handled properly. These RC helicopters are very powerful and extremely agile, able to exceed the flight envelope of a full size helicopter. They are available in various sizes, but even the small ones are powerful and fast. If you're a beginner learning to fly RC helicopters, there are many beginner friendly RC helicopters available in market. You can find some good beginner friendly RC helicopters in my channel.
Some crashes in the video with possible causes are listed down below.
10. T-Rex 600E PRO RC helicopter flies too close to the ground inverted and gets destroyed on impact. It's really not a good idea to do that because the damage caused is going to be huge.
9. This is a midair collision between an RC helicopter and RC plane, which completely disintegrates on impact. When you're randomly sharing same air space, this may be the consequence. That small foam RC plane had no chance of survival after it got hit by a big 3D RC helicopter at high speed. You can clearly see in the video - the little plane was simply unrecognizable after the impact.
8. This RC helicopter suffers from tail boom strike causing it to explode midair. Proper mechanical setup will not cause any boom strikes. If an RC helicopter is well built and setup, boom strikes are highly unlikely to occur. It happens due to something missed in setup or preflight. Blades flex significantly during flight, but this is well embodied into the designs these days. Likewise, missed loctite on swash balls, broken links, blown out dampers, and even blades that are much too loose, sometimes can lead or lag so much that they drop into the boom.
7. This is a perfect example of "Play stupid games, win stupid prizes". There are various reasons for RC helicopter fails and you'll definitely crash one in your lifetime if you get into this amazing hobby but flying erratically over water is never a good idea. If it crashes on ground, you will be able to at least retrieve it. I love scale flying over lakes but make sure the helicopter doesn't get too close to the water.
6. RC helicopter spins uncontrollably before crashing hard into ground. One of the causes could be failure of tail rotor which is designed to prevent a helicopter from spinning in the opposite direction to the main rotor blade. When a pilot loses control of the tail rotor, this can result in a total loss of helicopter control.
5. Goblin RC helicopter crashes while trying to take-off. This could be control input failure or backwards gyro. Vibration issue of the helicopter could also cause it.
4. Another T-Rex RC helicopter crashes due to boom strike the causes of which you can see in number 8.
3. No matter how experienced you are, it's always better to be safe than sorry. Although the place the pilot was flying looks quiet and there was nobody near by, it's a residential area and you cannot and are not allowed legally to operate such deadly machines in residential areas. In addition, neighbors are definitely not going to love that noise. So, don't do it and fly responsibly.
2. The RC helicopter spins out of control before crashing hard into ground. This is similar to number 6 crash caused by failure of the tail rotor/tail rotor drive.
1. This is one of the most deadly RC helicopter fails in which the pilot hits himself with a huge RC helicopter. Luckily, he was able to cut the throttle seconds before the helicopter hit him lessening the damage of the impact.
This video aims at providing awareness to RC helicopter pilots whether novice or experienced about the dangers involved in flying 3D RC helicopters. Always fly in a club or large area where there are no people or property near by. It's always a better idea to learn in simulator first if you're a beginner. But, please note that flying in real life conditions and simulator are different things. Some people master in flying 3D RC helicopters in simulator but they often crash a lot when flying in real.
Hope you enjoyed the video. Please leave a like if you did and stay tuned for the next video.

2:46 -- this is absolutely a flybarless (sometimes called gyro, an old name) configuration failure. You can tell that's the issue because of the acceleration in the unwanted cyclic input, which is what happens when the FBL tries to correct a slight problem but gives input to make the problem worse and that problem repeats itself very quickly in realtime to that conclusion. This is the easiest thing to check and something you should do every day on the field, and three or four times with any new helicopter build. Turn your heli on without the motor on, and your transmitter doing nothing. Pick up your helicopter and give it movement that the transmitter isn't; the job of the FBL/gyro is to notice what the heli is doing that you aren't commanding and remove it. So whatever you do with it manually, you should see deflections in the opposite direction to cancel it out in the swashplate, and the tail rotor pitch. You should be mechanically smart and aware enough to visibly understand what are the correct deflections. If you don't, then you're not knowledgable enough to fly and operate such an RC helicopter safely by yourself. 4:52 -- lol that is not a boom strike. That is a pilot who isn't good enough to flip the helicopter back over. Stupid decision to fly it in a neighborhood and FAR FAR too stupid to go inverted. World class RC heli pilots wouldn't ever do more than a needed hover check (strict, tail-in position) in that kind of area. If you're someone who's only been exposed to these kind of RC helicopters in videos, understand that as soon as one of these things is near you in real life you can hear and feel how powerful, quick, and dangerous they are. Dangerously bad pilots stop respecting the damage the machine can cause because they feel they can control it. Smart RC pilots assume their failure, and ensure it's not going to happen anywhere to do worse damage to anything other than the helicopter and the ground. 5:35 -- this guy is extremely lucky and also reacted poorly. The #1 most critical safety feature of all people who fly these things is our "throttle cut" switch on the transmitter. The gist of it is, one of the "channels" sent by the transmitter/controller is actually a constant signal telling the helicopter to keep the blades spinning at a given RPM (say around 2000-4000 rpm depending on helicopter size). Throttle cut switch functions to override normal flying and set the motor to zero power, and we are absolutely, responsibly supposed to do this then when/if ever we lose control, and aren't instantly able to regain it. These things fly fast in whatever direction so a loss of control has a real risk of crashing into people or the helicopter entirely getting away from visibility. If you're freaking out, lose orientation -- don't try to regain control for moments while it has a real risk of harming people. At that point the only control you have is dropping it into the ground harmlessly. If you're worried about the cost and are putting people at risk for an unlikely chance to save your helicopter from hitting the ground, that means you can't afford the hobby, safely or otherwise. When you're playing competition style like that, you absolutely should be capable of seeing a tail strike on the ground, and even if you don't directly see it, you instantly recognize the response (uncontrolled yaw->spin) and know you aren't recovering it. The only thing to do then is hit throttle cut because you absolutely know you don't have control and this guy doesn't appear to hit that switch for 2 whole secons. That's far too slow. Cutting power to blades and being hit by them just 0.5 seconds later is a huge difference in reducing the damage. Enough to take a potentially lethal and absolutely certain ER visit, down to maybe not even an urgent care visit. I love this hobby, and too many people engage in it unsafely. What (somewhat) incidentally makes it safe is how expensive it is to not take seriously. Also it takes many hours and tools to build these things, and all helicopters over a certain size must be built unless you're buying used. Someone selling one used and already built wouldn't responsibility sell to someone who's saying "this is my first helicopter and I'm learning to fly" if they look like they might be a donkey and do something stupid. Even if you manage to put a flyably dangerous helicopter into the hands of someone who's about to be stupid with no ability, they are so difficult to control they will most certainly crash it within seconds or under a minute, and their lack of ability to diagnose, pay for replacement parts, and repair what they just broke will absolutely not be there. When I used to fly very small helicopters (Blade Nano, Blade mCPX BL) in a public park, the most common banter strangers would make with me is how they got something similar for Christmas one year, crashed it, and never touched it again. The irony is, they most certainly had a far easier helicopter that they couldn't control. I spent a week learning how to basic hover in a simulator, and a couple months learning outdoors on very small helicopters. All the while I was building a 450 sized helicopter with great care and patience. By the time I flew the big one, I was more than prepared and needed every bit of caution since I was doing it alone and not with a flying club. If you don't have that kind of patient temperament, join a club and absolutely find someone who knows what there is to know. You can learn and execute a bit faster, but don't try to do it solo for your first time.
