I'm so glad you made this video. With 60% of applicants not getting into medical school I wish it was more talked about. I also started out in engineering and also had difficulties my freshman year because I was working long hours while attending school. If I don't get into medical school out of undergrad I think I'll also pursue a master's program. Anyway thanks for making this video. I found it helpful.

Please make a single general video or a specified video on the 4 aspects of the med school application. x. Academics ( gpa ) x. Extracricullars (research, shadowing, sports x. Community/ volunteering i.e please provide specific examples. x. Mcat 3. What did you do in all 4 aspects in order to get into med school.

I'm currently an engineering undergrad and it's crazy to me to think that med school would presume you lacked ability to excel in bio sciences and chemistry because you are an engineer. I breezed through my degree required chem. I took 'advanced' Bio science classes in high school, breezed through them graduating valedictorian. But university level math for engineering has been a mind bending journey. I guess we all have different aptitudes but I think if you can manage the math for engineering you have the ability to do fairly well in most sciences. At least that's been my experience.

In total, how long was your gap years?

I have an undergrad degree in neuroscience, currently im working at Disability Service place, and i really wanna desparately want to get into medicine. The only issue is, my family currently needs money, so I'm working and I'm finding im nothaving time to study yet. I had a plan last year to kind of put myself through a refresher, like start my brain again and try and master the learning process for myself, but because of personal things, I hav been unable to do it. I want to get back into uni and try and get my marks up, because, unfortiunatley my marks are not high enough for med or honours. Basically what i want to do is start doing all my academic stuff and textbook from Highschool all the way through uni, and get myself to really delve into it and fully get it, and through that get the habit of studying ingrained into me. Trying to renergise my mind and everything. But people keep saying i need to hurry up and start applying for med or get back into uni ASAP. The issue is, this happened when i firs went into uni and i thought id take a break for 1 sem during my 2nd year to let myself chill for a bit, but i couldnt because of reasons and i had to push through and i think i neded up making my academic burnout worse. Now i'm just conflicted on whether i should ive up on it an dpursue something else, because of some time constraint? or should i keep pursuing it? Sorry that this ended up being like a diary entry, but i feel kind of lost at the moment

Hi Dr. Brian, I am also a non-traditional aspiring med student. My story is a little more complicated. I earned my B.S. in Clinical Psychology and had to take my pre reqs at a community college. I was thinking of post-bacc program that focused on upper division course work or do you think I should do a Master’s?

Medical school is quite different here in the UAE. It's an integrated program and ranges between 5-7 years. We have 7 schools in total. I applied to 6 out of 7 and all of them didn't get back to me. I'm currently doing my 5th semester in biomedical sciences. Graduate entry medicine is the only path left for me. I hope I can make to Med school one day.
