It seems like before relapse we forget everything we have been telling ourselves and only remember the good parts of using. Which are few and far between. Stay strong and stay sober. Dont forget the way you feel after. EVER.

Ryan Norman I needed to hear this because I am struggling with remembering the good and comfort of the using part. Thank you!

Yikes. I have been feeling so up and down. When I'm down I dont worry to much about relapse but when I'm up I totally start romanticizing. Thanks for this I need to hear this as well.

Wow I relapsed yesterday after 6 days off cocaine. Not a long time I know but a start and all the stages mentioned is me down to a tee. I hope I can improve on my coping skills for when stage 1 starts again.

I know this is an old comment but I want you and everyone who may read this to take into consideration that 6 days is 144 hours. While you're awake we'll round it up to 96 hours given that you somehow get the recommended 8 of hours of sleep. That is 5,760 minutes you are awake and not using while you are thinking about it and going through withdraw. That is a crazy amount of time when you think about it! It's not for the faint of heart. I hope you've gotten things straightened out and got clean. Good luck

I'm an addict for 20 years initially gambling. I stopped that for a long time only to find alcohol. Both cost me in different ways. All the while highly functional, and I don't look like an addict at all. The emotional pain however has been monumental. I wish I had this advice much earlier, but this video certainly helps.

WOW, this video really opened my eyes. I am 7 months clean from using meth, and I am on the road to relapse. This video helped me to see that. I desperately do NOT want to use again, using is sheer hell for me. This video helps me find the strength to carry on, and makes me more determined to keep off this insidious self-destructive drug.

This video may very well save someone's life. Of course, the individual would need to apply the tools each day, but but Recovery is possible is someone CHOOSES to get clean

I hate how much I relate to this video. I now understand a little bit more why I relapse and how I can prevent the despair that comes with it. Interestingly, prevention is so basic I almost hate myself for not knowing before. This video is more than educational. Thank you Dr. Steven.

Prevention isn't so basic for many, esp. those hard-wired early. Learning to be comfortable with being uncomfortable can be challenging for these types (I'm one). Hope you're still around friend.

Dr. Steven Melemis is the most powerful and effective addiction therapist I have ever known. Unfortunately, he treats only alcohol addiction, as far as I know. I learnt so much from him, even though my choice of drug is different. I can only imagine if he was treating other addictions, how good he was gonna be. Thanks anyways, for sharing your invaluable knowledge so easily and for FREE.

Thank you so much Dr. Steven Melemis for this video, brief, concise and easy to understand by all people from all walks of life. I am working at the Parole and probation Administration , Philippines and we are currently developing programs for probationers with substance abuse problems and this presentation would be a big help in making them understand relapse. How do I request permission to present this to my fellow officers and also to our probationers?
