Voddie Baucham talks about, from the Scriptures, if it's okay for Christians to be in a relationship with an unbeliever, and explains why. An extremely challenging excerpt from an extremely challenging sermon!
Excerpt from: "True Love", part 2 of 4 in Voddie's series "Love and Marriage.

As an unbeliever I married another unbeliever. God opened my eyes 3 years ago and and poured His Saving Grace on me…. It still blows my mind how it all happened. Since then it has been the hardest time in our marriage and I am not able to take our son with me to church , which breaks my heart. But God , He continues to move and I see little glimpses. “Today salvation has come to this house because this man too is the son of Abraham. The Son of Man came to seek and save the lost.” Luke 19:9 This scripture was put on my heart recently for my husband…. One day, just keep praying and having faith, God is the God of the impossible ❤️

Do not impose your own issues of morality and hatred of God on to Men of God who fearlessly preach the Holy Scriptures such as this Man of God is doing right now. I married an unbeliever 25 years ago and it’s been an extremely rocky road but after 20 years of praying he’s quit drinking. 5 more years of praying and he’s now open to maybe reading ‘my bible’ as after many many years of keeping God quiet around him from being silenced by his bad attitude I decided that I’m reading my Bible in the open, I’m talking about God and how he’s worked in my life to him and sending him devotional I think he needs to read because I’m suddenly so driven to share them with him. Tell God what you need and in his time if it’s his will it will come. I’ve used my hubs as proof of God to many as all who knew him knew him overcoming being an alcoholic was virtually impossible with out a miracle! It’s was so hard and is still at times but I’m married and am doing to best I can with Gods grace. ❤️. Stay strong my brothers and sisters.

I am in the same situation, but 2 years ago when we married, I still called myself a Christian, and had the basic knowledge of Christianity and knew that believers in Christ were not permitted to be yolked together with unbelievers. But by this time, it was too late, I was already emotionally involved and did not have the relationship with Christ that I needed to save me from that situation. A couple of years later, I became saved, actually, truly saved. And let me tell you, when you're saved, You KNOW that you're saved. Other believers in Christ will understand, I am sure, but the experience is so real and so amazing that I will remember the day for the rest of my life; just as I would in a situation where I cheated death. I would explain the experience for you, but I honestly can't. I would have better luck describing the color orange to a blind man. But I know for a fact that I was saved in Christ on that day, and it was not because I sought out God. Oh no, I thought you could seek out God, but it wasn't until that day when I realized that it is not you who seeks after God, but God who calls you unto Him. (Romans 3:11) I was caused to follow after God, and I am truly blessed to be called, knowing just how lost I truly was. (Psalm 65:4) I am now however, still in an unequally yolked relationship with my wife, and all I can do is lead by example and pray for her salvation. I pray, because it will be God who causes her to follow Him, not me. I sinned against the LORD by marrying an unbeliever, and yet, God has blessed me despite my blatant disregard for His word. We are both very blessed by God, that when I take a moment to recognize all that God has done for me, I weep. I do not deserve the abundance of love He gives, I do not deserve anything from Him, and yet He still chooses to bless me. I continue to pray for my wife's salvation and leading by example, but in the end I do not know what will come of the situation. Ultimately God's Will shall be done. (Romans 8:28)

@@ThePaulKM I am in exactly the same situation as yours. I love my man though and I keep telling him about Jesus Christ. My 26 year old daughter, dated an unbeliever in HS and married him at 23 he was 22. He has been a terrible influence in her concerning her taking on his spirit of cursing etc. She wasnt brought up like that. She stopped listening to anything i had to say and we grew apart. 4 years later this month he cheated on her and is living with the mistress and she Is devastated. I have been praying for years, God do what ever it takes to wake her up to you and the same for her husband who we have shown God's love to, well she has realized now thru listening to a preacher online she should not have married an unbeliever. She now is listening to what I have to say. I have been extremely honest about how herbdad and I have felt about her behaviors since she met this young man. She has forgiven her husband but is making boundaries not seeing him at all. I think he realizes he has done something which seems unforgivable, but I met with him and told all all things are forgivable with God. He says he doesn't want to work on marriage or go to counseling and has told her she deserves someone better. They are currently in the middle of divorce paperwork. By God's grace I have been able to mediate and share Christ with him and the love of God. I know it wasn't me but God's strength thru me and all the prayer I had requested from people to help me to minister truth to him. I don't know what will happen between them, but we pray for him to be born again and for her to cultivate a relationship with the Lord. Hold on to Jesus mamma, keep praying and keep your own heart pure. Feel free to correspond. God loves our babies.

This is so true. Seems like, either way, the Church numbers will decrease, due either to no Christian women who can find Christian men (and therefore remain childless) or to Christian women marrying and procreating with nonChristian men, and therefore raising up godless/pagan children. I am an Atheist, but the title of this video intrigued me. I was involved with a Christian woman for quite some time. I told her from the start that I did not believe. Initially, she seemed okay with that. I loved her so much, and I believed she loved me too. Her smile, her presence, her touch. It was just so amazing to me. I even started to believe that she was forsaking Christianity because it was her who initiated sex in the relationship. Later in the relationship, she made it clear to me that her pastor talked her out of seeing me any further, but we still remained friends. Even after we broke it off, we continued to be intimate because the feelings did not just vanish into thin air. One day she cut me off cold turkey. No warning. Nothing. Blocked my number, deleted me from social media, the whole nine yards. Even though I do not believe in Christianity, I think Pastor Baucham makes a great point. It is foolish to chase someone who does not share the same religious views as you do. It will become a problem even if it is not one at first. I was devastated about how the situation turned out, and I believe she was too. It's safe to say that I won't date a Christian woman ever again. Not because I have anything against Christians, but because they will may very well have something against me.

Adding my voice as others have - I'm sorry for the pain you went through. Being a believer can be challenging in a secular society and we need to and are empowered to make godly choices. She obviously loved you, but the Spirit of God gave her no rest primarily because premarital sex is taboo. Sex is for marriage, so eventually, she had to call it quits. Believers aren't necessarily "better" people, but they do carry the Presence of God and that makes them accountable to Him. We cannot make a confession of faith in Him, but keep running our own lives. We have given that right over to Him. We learn to follow the Spirit of God who leads us and guides us in love and peace to our eternal destiny. Some believers do get involved and married because they intend to eventually convert the other person. God is not into manipulation and no human can convince another. It is the work of the Holy Spirit and all honor goes to Him.

This for Christians, our moral standards are not the same as atheists,so when atheists comment, they are just commenting to spew hatred and double standards. They think its right to tell a Christian what to do,but not for Christians to guide their own. This is our culture,we understand it very well, usually by experience. So when an atheist (someone who's already hostile towards God) joins in...well their points are usually rude and irrelevant. The fool says in his heart "there is no God" so we must realize we are talking to fools by interacting with atheists on any point relating to spiritual matters. Almost every atheist comment includes hatred and profanity, putdowns instead of points. They are quite irrelevant in the sphere of something they do not believe and are hostile towards because they do not understand.

Pastor voddie Preaches the truth. It’s so hard to find a Bible Preacher on line that knows what he’s talking about. I love his Teaching of the Scripture’s. He’s articulate and his passion make me want to leave this state so I can be fed with the truth of the Gospel. He’s funny too , in a loving way. May the Lord Richly Bless his ministry. I will continue to listen to him and you should do the same if you are hungry for real training in God’s Word. He’s all about Jesus and what the Gospel means. My Brother told me about him, I listened once and God opened my heart and said” Listen to him.” He didn’t say it to me verbally, but the Holy Spirit gave me his passion for Christ’s truth about the Word. You don’t have to believe me, but if you are truly Saved, you won’t have too. For the Holy Spirit will. True Christians know the truth, and will not follow any voice but God’s. His sheep knows His Voice and will follow it, and will not follow wolves in sheep’s clothing. Like pastor Robert Jeffress who wants your money but has 17 million dollars in his pocket. Jesus said “” Be ware of them.” Research them all first. May the Lord Bless His Children and watch over us.😘❤️✝️

When I met my wife, she was not a believer. I would not go any deeper into a relationship with her until she did. After a span of time of bringing the Word of God to her, and getting her into a good, Bible based church, she gave her life to Christ. We got married, had kids, she was baptized, and now she works in the children's ministry at our church and loves the Lord Jesus with all her heart, mind, soul, and mind. Believers ought to be with other believers. Not in a committed, husband/wife relationship. One flesh means one flesh. You can't be one flesh with someone who doesn't belong to God.

I'm guessing by "It doesn't work," you mean, that it doesn't work to marry an unbeliever. Sorry you had to figure that out the hard way, but the Bible tells you what to do in such a situation. 1 Corinthians 7:13-15 reads, *"And a woman who has an unbelieving husband, and he consents to live with her, she must not send her husband away. For the unbelieving husband is sanctified through his wife, and the unbelieving wife is sanctified through [h]her believing husband; for otherwise your children are unclean, but now they are holy. Yet if the unbelieving one leaves, let him leave; the brother or the sister is not under bondage in such cases, but God has called us to peace." Seek God and growth in him, not to nag your husband into repentance, but simply quietly living your life to the glory of God. It may be that God saves him through your example, ultimately, that's between him and God, and it's not your fault if he never comes to faith.

Good teaching! but might I add, 1. Women out number men by 2:1. And many churches its worse than that. 2. modern believers have been so caught up in their specialness, no one is good enough, they want the BEST, so they overlook perfectly fine people for minor flaws. 3. Modern men fear marriage and wait longer marrying younger leaving women in certain age groups ignored. Lust of the eye is primarily a male problem. 4. Churches don't encourage singles properly or hold events where they can meet. Just telling someone to wait, wait, wait is not enough. 5. Isolation and loneliness can be soul crushing. 6. Impurity in the leadership.

As much as I agree with this (because I'm agreeing with the Word), Romance can sometimes be like a market driven economy. If a (specific) woman is looking to the world for a mate, it's because we men have to step it up. These women aren't finding what they need and want in the local church body they find themselves be in. Have a spine (disagree for your own self respect), take care of yourself, don't be so fearful, a push over and be a responsible adult man. I'm telling you, even if my wife and I disagree, she respects me for not just going along with whatever she wants. No matter how bossy one particular woman can be, NO WOMAN wants to be with a push-over. There's obviously exceptions to this - Though no woman should blame men for their bad choices nor should any man blame any woman for his own bad choices.

There are situations where this was and is allowed, but it’s important to understand the context of this following Scripture: “To the rest I say (I, not the Lord) that if any brother has a wife who is an unbeliever, and she consents to live with him, he should not divorce her. If any woman has a husband who is an unbeliever, and he consents to live with her, she should not divorce him. For the unbelieving husband is made holy because of his wife, and the unbelieving wife is made holy because of her husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy” (1 Corinthians 7:12-14). Note at the beginning this is Paul’s own discernment. He is trying to resolve a conflict that was common at the time, which was one being already married to an unbeliever after the Gospel truth had made its way into the family, converting the hearts of at least one spouse. In this case, Paul argues they should remain married. Note that this does not apply to those seeking a wife or husband, only those already married. This is why Paul also states in his second letter to Corinth, that they should “...not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14) Once a single individual has accepted the Truth, they should not choose a non-Christian spouse. This is a view that even Orthodox Christianity shares with some of Protestantism, showing that Scriptural interpretation is most likely not needed on this matter as it as been made clear by the letters to Corinth. Usually when the Orthodox Church agrees with a Protestant, the Scriptural evidence of an argument is irrefutable. In short, Corinthians supplies a precondition that must be met to marry outside of Christianity: one must be married before a spouse accepts Christ for the marriage to be proper (in Paul’s opinion). Paul taught that it would be better for a new believer to remain married and hope their spouse will eventually stop rejecting Christ than for them to divorce, as Christ makes it clear only adultery from one party makes a divorce acceptable, “But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery” (Matthew 5:32). St. Paul was a master mitigator of social and cultural circumstances and his views should be accepted. Yet note that Paul a acknowledges this allowance of a marriage to a non-believer as his own conclusion, giving credence to God alone. The Scriptures make this issue very clear, as one can see.

Halleluyah amen. So on point and truthful on every point made. I hope and prày young people, especially young women listen and take heed to this message. Praise God for Pastors like this. We need a whole lot more to make enough of an impact on the God fearing community who cuts right down to the chase.

God spoke to me and said my unbelieving husband was my husband at 18, freshman year in college. Sometimes it’s God’s assignment....see the book of Hosea. This wasn’t my choice, it was God’s!

Hosea isn't about marrying an unbeliever, it's about a prophet marrying a woman who would commit adultery. It's a metaphor for God's punishment of sin, then love, then hope. Not many situations we read about in the bible are meant for personal application. They were rare instances, few and far between, recorded to show God's relationship with a sinful nation. No matter what any prophecy, vision, or sign says, God doesn't contradict himself. He says very clearly not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers. Sure it might turn out alright, but I also might not get caught if I steal. Does that make it right?
