Deciding to go back to a relaxer is a hug decision!! Today we're going to go over my pros and cons of what I have experienced when I decided to go back to a relaxer after being natural for 10 years.
I will be attempting to transition for the next year or two and track how much growth i'll obtain on this transitioning journey. I'll be happy to take you all along the way of how I navigate going back natural with tools, products, and techniques I use.

I've been natural for 13 years now, it is a process of accepting your hair for what it is, not what you want it to be. I relapsed only once during the first 2 years, learned texturizers & relaxers alike are not worth it. Now I absolutely love my natural hair to the point that I dislike straight hair & never wear it. It has grown very long too which I could never achieve with the relaxers due to breakage. I wish I hadn't wasted so many years hating my real hair during my early youth, I feel robbed actually. If I could go back, I would have never relaxed in the first place. I swear many bw are brainwashed & spend too much time coveting, that's what keeps the cycle going, but God can do miracles when you come to him. Never again 👏

I was natural for 4 years before relaxing my hair in October 2022. I love my natural hair but shedding tears on wash days because detangling was always knots and matting, and the styles I liked to wear only worked for an hour drive to work, a day or two. It really started to affect how I was feeling about how I looked; one day I might transition back to natural.

Every stage of hair growth, I embraced; trying different techniques, trying products differently (I didn’t buy a lot of new “natural hair” products), sharing what I’ve learned with others, etc. I’ve always been a “hair” person and have treated “her” (my hair) very well. As a result, each and every time she understands the assignment and delivers. Ninety-nine percent of the time I’m rocking a WnG but I will switch the style up from time to time. You going back to natural hair after experienced relaxing your hair for the first time after being natural maybe a good thing, you can now make a more decisive decision because you have experience both. For example I used to always relax my hair but I decided to go natural for many reason it was my first time, after 3 years I thought I learned enough and I will be able to do better if I go back to relax hair, but after one year I saw the pros and cons of the 2, I realized natural hair is better for me and I get to keep more hair in my head. for some reason I experienced to much breakage while on relaxers. Now I have 3 years again since I went back to natural hair and I couldn’t be happier. I do want to try straight natural down the road, maybe in a couple of more years. 😊❤

I have been natural for over 10 years now. My best advice for transitioning is to be patient with yourself and your hair and don't be too focused on the looks more so than the health. Figure out what oils and butters etc your hair loves. I learnt that my hair loves avacado oil. I am a 4c. The learning process is very rewarding. Learn about moisture retention, products, etc. Research and embrace the good and bad days.

Your hair looks great - but we’re excited to welcome you back to the “natural hair community”! I’ve been natural for 7 years, about to start year 8 (I use my son as a guide: started natural when he was in 3d grade; now, he’s about to start junior year of high school). Your list of “cons” regarding relaxer were a good reminder for me of why I went natural: I remember the tiny hairs in the bathroom sink (breakage) & the shedding . My hair is beyond bra-strap-length now, and I’m proud of that. But holy cow - It does indeed take a lot of time to keep up, especially now that it’s long. I don’t wear wigs or “braids” (styles w added hair), so I’m always in a twist-out/braid out; or I oftentimes keep my hair in mini twists for a couple weeks (mini = 24 twists total) and style it that way, then wear it down for 1 week in the loose twist-out state. It takes me *forever* to do those 24 twists after washing, since my hair is past the boobs now - so welcome back to that ordeal, lol😂. But all-in-all, I love my natural hair, and I think you’re making a good decision (I’m a good deal older than you, probably, and you’re right: most hair gets thinner as we age, and the “creamy crack” is not your friend in that regard.) Your hair is so thick (I’m envious!), and it’s beautiful: You’re gonna do fantastic transitioning back to natural!

I relaxed my hair a month before my wedding; now 5 months later I realize that I want to go back natural. There are pros and cons to both, but like you said , “I could have just retwisted my hair” 😩😂. Luckily I have a short bob so transitioning shouldn’t take that long. I know when I tell my husband he’s going to roll his eyes because he’s going to be like “so what was the reason?”. I’ve been wanting to get back on my fitness journey and I sweat heavily and the thought of my hair has been deterring me from wanting to do so.

Your hair is super cute! It actually reminds me a lot of mine when I was relaxed and all the pros and cons you listed were on point, especially the cons. I also have really thick hair but I would shed sooooo much while relaxed. I just remember whenever I would sweep my bathroom and bedroom as a teenager all the literal piles of hair I’d end up with. It was bad. Also remember that feeling of always needing a touch up as soon as you felt your roots. But I did also like the ease of it, the ability to just throw you hair in a ponytail and go without the stress of styling. Wash days were super easy and stress free too. Ngl, I think about going back to a relaxer every few months, but I don’t blame you for wanting to go natural again.

The shedding is normal . The only difference is it’s easier for the hair to fall out because it’s not coils and curls trapping the shed hair . You can literally see your “100 strands a day” shed. On the other hand us naturals see our shed hair mostly during the detangle sessions , when we manually go in to remove shed hair . SN: if it’s abnormal shedding you are definitely do for a protein treatment. Which you should be doing every 6-8 weeks anyway.

I went natural a year ago, my hair is dense and very kinky which I love but I'm ready to relax my hair again. The biggest pro for me that's prompting me to relax is the styling part and ease of washing and detangling. Every wash day I struggle to style my natural hair and have it look good especially at mid length. the biggest pro with natural hair is consistent growth and no breakage but still my arms hurt sigh!!

I was natural for about 8 years. I caught covid last year in October, and by December i went through post covid shedding. Like my hair was falling out bad. I’m tender head, and because it was coming out at the root, it tangled really badly at the top of my head and took forever to detangle. I haven’t relaxed but i did a Brazilian treatment and have been wearing my hair straight since February. I use olaplex every other week and have not experienced breakage at all. I wash my hair every 2 weeks and blow dry and flat iron it. Sometimes i miss my natural hair but i hated the 6 hour wash days. In the shower out the shower in the shower out the shower. 30 minutes to an hour detangling (depending on how much gel i put in the week before) all the products and the inconsistency of how my hair would come out each wash day. I may go back to wearing my hair curly at some point but for now I’m enjoying the ease of straight hair

I wish more people would talk about that. I cod be wrong but just so you know when your hair is straight shed hair can fall out easier. You are shedding relaxed hair but little pieces fall out daily when u brush/comb it. With natural hair the shed hairs get caught up in your curls and don't fall out as easily. So when u finally take a comb to it all the built up shedding caught in the hair seems like a lot.

Tbh, I started taking care of my hair (as in washing it, moisturizing it, actually being physical with it) when I went natural. When I was relaxed I never washed it. When I did I had no idea what I was doing. No one taught me how to take care of my hair outside of the salon. So if I ever relaxed again I still wouldn’t know what to do. That would be the start of a whole new journey in general. But I enjoy being natural. I’ll probably never relax again. It’s easier for me being natural in the sense that I don’t feel as much pressure to style my hair. I can do a pony puff and go, or a wash and go. I have the freedom to wash and leave my hair alone for a week to do its own thing. I feel like when I was relaxed I couldn’t do that. I always had to have a style or something.

Sisterlocs will give you healthy hair, hair movement and minimal self maintenance. I do almost nothing to my hair daily. Shake, shake, fingers through to get the last tangles out, I don’t wrap it, I wash it once every 2 weeks, braid and sit under a dryer for crinkles, rarely use rose water. Think about it.

This Vegas heat made me want to go back to the creamy crack side! I’ve been perm free about 10 years, I was debating going to a stylist to get it done or just get some Design Essentials perm and do it myself, then I thought well maybe I’ll do keratin treatments instead…. I think imma just stick to natural, I wash once a week and I rollerset and every now and then I’ll flat iron but I feel like your cons are enough for me to get over my desire for a perm. Thanks for your honesty. I kinda felt like the whole fear mongering over perms was to keep the product companies of natural products in business- but I keep it simple with good shampoo, conditioner, leave in and serum-dassit- so imma stick beside them simple products and keep it moving! 🎉🎉🎉

I don’t think the lawsuits are fear mongering tbh. But it’s down to the individual to make an informed decision based on research. Most of us have experienced both relaxed and natural. Black hair products is a billion dollar industry so not just making bucks from naturals they making hella money from the ones on the creamy crack that has to keep going back for touch ups.
@HeadfulofHair
@HeadfulofHair Жыл бұрын
@@crapbag426 Guarenteed less money is being made in the relaxed spectrum. The fact you have natural hair products specifically for 3b, 3c, 4a, 4b and 4c alone confirms that it's more money in it, not to mention the cowashes, oils & butters.... I can go and on with other products...but your entitled to your opinion. I don't trust it, even their current claims says "more research is needed' and it 'may' cause issues... aka: fear mongering.....

I am you. After 10 years natural I relaxed my hair last year. I have touched it up maybe four times. I’m not planning to relax again. I relaxed because I wanted longer hair to do different styles. My natural hair shrinks to a curly fro. I despise relaxers because I’m at the mercy of my stylist for retouches and trims. I can’t do those things myself.
