Relaxing FFVIII Music • Compression of Time (Harp)

As requested, here is a looped version of Compression of Time from FFVIII, performed by me on the harp! I added in some cool wave effects to evoke the psychedelic nature of time compression. Or ARE they effects? Perhaps they're real. Perhaps Ultimecia is compressing time as we speak. I don't know. Check your hot dog supply.

P.S. - I have decided to take a brief break from recording new songs on the harp to allow my wrist to heal. I'm getting really tired of the whole heals/flare up/heals/flare up merry-go-round of hell, so hopefully this respite gives me some substantial relief. I really wish that old theory that Ultimecia was a future Rinoa gone made with the loss of her knight, Squall, turned out to be canon. Her pain and agony of losing him and just wanting to compress all of time and space into a singularity just to spend eternity with him just gets me in the feels.

I think it was the plan, given that he wears the same necklace as her GF. They probably had disagreements and went with the weak compromise.

Yeah I'll admit it would've added some much needed depth to Ultimecia's motivations but oh well, I'm pretty sure R = U is just tin foil at this point 🥴

But if Ultimecia is Rinoa and Ultimecia possessed Edea to pierce Squall's heart with that ice shard spell, wouldn't that suggest that Rinoa willingly killed Squall and caused her own misery??

@IncentiveDolphinsKitase doesn't ultimately get to decide how the text interpreted. Authorial intent is not the word of God. I think that even unintentionally, there are enough clues in the story that the theory makes a fair amount of sense. Certainly more than "Squall is dead" does anyway. Also he didn't actually say this was wrong, he said it was never intentional on the part of the writers, and he even went so far as to say he liked the theory and would have to give it some thought if they ever remade the game.

@@maximoskoukos It wasn't the plan. You can view Griever as a result of Ultimecia looking into Squall's mind and conjuring up his idea of the ultimate GF from his imagination. And so the final battle represents him overcoming the ultimate sorceress but also his deepest insecurities and fears. Which then unlocks his ability to open up and fully accept his friends and Rinoa's love.

Uematsu would be proud for sure. This rendition is one of the best I've heard of the franchise personally. That sustained presence of sound sits really well, and that layering, gliss work and arrangement is charming. Very Hypnotic, mysterious and enchanting sound. I'm glad you decided on this one. The wavy visuals were a bit psychadelic indeed, like a light shroom effect. 🍄 I also agree that you should take some time to heal that wrist. I'm sure those of us that ain't selfish pricks would agree. 😅 Oh and be careful of hotdogs....I just saw a video saying they were finding some disturbing things in them. 😵‍💫 The video essays sound like a cool idea. Thank you so much! I am very grateful to have an extended version of this arrangement. I think harp is the perfect instrument for this tune. I'll be taking my D&D players into the Feywild soon, and for sure will use this piece as mood music. Also, good for you for taking a break to let your wrist heal. FFVIII was my first FF game. To me my main motivation to get this game was to listen to Faye Wong's first english song "Eyes On Me" Never thought the story was so captivating. Back then the game soundtracks were not as accessible like now a days and KZfaq was not even a thing until 10 or 12 years later. For for me to be able to listen to the game music was to get one of those cheat code app. Which allows me to access all game files. Yes including all the CGI scenes and BGM.

I used to have save files in specific game locations where I loved the music hahaha. I'd listen over and over, try to memorize them so I could play them by ear on the piano, and yeah...that was pretty much the only way to hear the music in those days haha. Eventually I came across CDs imported from Japan in the early 2000s and got the FF8 and 10 OSTs. I thought I was HOT SHIT.

When I do Final Fantasy VIII (best Final Fantasy), and I hit the point that I am outside Ultimecia's Castle, this song is the forefront. The castle music is great, but this is the actual theme that hits Squall for the first time, and the first time he has to acknowledge that "shit is fucked" since when does Squall have to deal with people owning literal floating castles? Seifer talks a big game, but Squall is the man with the plan.

Yeah that entire compression sequence is eerie AF. People can complain all they want about the weirdness of FF8's plot (and that's fair, I get it haha) but I feel like the artistic execution in that game with the visuals and music was just insanity 🔥🔥🔥

@@Harpsibored Squall shows up, the first thing he sees is that White SeeD has lost the fight, and he goes on anyway, kills everything in the castle with his skills locked, shows up at her door where she calls him the "legendary SeeD", then kills her through all of her forms, including her summoning Squall's ideal Guardian Force. Squall can summon laser beams from space, what is this crazy time witch going to do to him? Nothing.

Here's a question for you, if Time Compression is happening in the past, present and future at every moment, doesn't that mean it's happening now? So it doesn't even matter if Ultimecia has started it yet or not, because she already will have been going too have and is currently doing it and having done it in the future... 😵‍💫🤯🤕

why the city were blocked off. even fire cavern was melted during time compression..but as i go checked it out nothing happened..there..or that wasn`t really fire cavern in time compression battle.
