Our nation's capital is beautiful. My brother lives in DC and I often take very relaxing walks so I recognize each street, park, museum, and landmark. Thanks for sharing your walk. Looking forward to your live stream to hear about your experience and ask questions.

This makes me so happy, I remember watching you from the beginning and crying because I knew something was wrong even being in the US. Then everything fell apart and I worried, especially when you went radio silent in the fall. So happy for you.

as a 55 yr old black man, born and raised in DC....I see the value of my hometown, even more clearly at this moment in my life. The value of this city has become even profound, in light of the so-called Presidential administration that left office a few yrs ago. Im also looking forward to MOVING BACK TO DC, in a year or so. Trust me, when you've lived in the South for the last 5 yrs, you look around and see in these times, that there are not a ton of other cities in this country, that truly take it upon themselves to embrace black history and black culture like Wash DC. When I was discharged from the Navy in 1998 (I was stationed in the Bay Area for most of my 8 year enlistment) I LOVED living in San Francisco and I will never forget the beauty of that city, even thru the worst of times (AIDS epidemic thru the 80s and 90s)..And I still consider San Francisco to be "a jewel"..a city with breathtaking beauty. But right there with it is Washington DC...you cant take in all that DC has to offer in just a few days. To thoroughly understand why this city is so important to this country's history, you have to re-visit it a few times. Ive lived in northern VA, when I was too young to really remember. Ive lived in every section of DC, except SW-DC..and Ive lived at 4 different addresses on Capitol Hill alone. I was pretty much raised on Capitol Hill...went to grade school K-6th grade at St Peter's School, just a stone's throw from the Capitol and the Supreme Court. Ive visited the Library of Congress, too many times to count and Ive been to the top of the Capitol's dome, too many times to count. thing is, all of those things happened during a time, when anyone could LITERALLY walk the grounds of the Capitol without being bothered, as long as you didnt approach the entrance. I can even remember street people sleeping on the benches that are everywhere to be seen on the grounds. They were never allowed to stay there forever, because security and/or law enforcement wouldnt allow it..but those confrontations were never nasty or abusive. The bums would just move on and law enforcement would just go away. When I was 11 and 12 and 13 yrs old, I played in a soccer league that was relegated to young people who generally lived in the area. It wasnt a surprise to anyone that both Senators and House Reps, allowed their own kids to play in that league. So, there I was..teammates with kids whose parents I would see every night on the local or national news. I look back now , and there is one singular event that ENTIRELY changed the social atmosphere of DC..especially on the Hill...and it would be 9/11. Post-911, the intimacy and free nature of Washington DC and all of its international value, disappeared. Whereas BEFORE 911, MIddle Easter folk and Muslims were not demonized the way they were, after 911. And where security around the Capitol used to be looser and less rigid, before 911...AFTER 911, you couldnt walk on the Capitol grounds in a nonchalant way anymore, because of all the barricades and such.

Very nice. The weather looks perfect - tho it's hard to tell if it's hot and humid from a video. 😄When I was young, my parents would drive us down to Dupont Circle so we could look at the hippies. As an adult, I worked in a building on the Circle and I've worked at places where you were on M Street. Around K & L, are a lot of lobbying firms, and off of the main streets, some of the big houses are embassies. While I'm glad to live where I live now, it was nice to see DC again.

Aleks very nice video, just beautiful with the music and editing. Looks like you are having a lovely time in Washington DC. You should have an advice column called Ask Aleks, I think you are worldly and a wonderful person. It is moving to see things through your eyes.

The city looks deserted. I expected to see more people. It all looks very beautiful. Thanks for sharing this as I haven't been to America.

I think it’s probably because school isn’t out yet here or is just having graduations - and it’s a weekday/workday so most people are probably in the buildings but some tourism too.

DC is fairly spread out. Most everything is the USA is, so it's rare to find areas of mass people and congestion. There are the exceptions like NY, Chicago, LA etc, but even those places have areas to walk that aren't people and vehicles shoulder-to-shoulder.

@@rj-zz8im right? Like besides the big cities and urban sprawl, we are literally not kidding when we say we have a big country. Like BIG big. You don’t understand until you experience it, even speaking for myself as someone who grew up in NJ where it is ALWAYS.CROWDED. The first time I flew out west all I could see was L A N D. So much. Now, I’m a beach girl so I want to always live in a seaside state but man, the housing prices in the landlocked states do be making me think 😂

Wonderful relaxing video of your walk in Washington D.C Aleks! I really liked your music choices to add to the video as well! Happy LGTBQ Pride Month! Aleks, did you notice the rainbow flags? Those flags recognize LGBTQ Pride right in the open ares on the street! :) That is probably a BIG Difference in USA compared to Russia seeing LGBTQ flags on the street lamps in the open common people areas! I have visited Washington D.C many times. Wonderful place!

*sigh* You walked right by the empty storefronts of a couple of my favorite restaurants that have moved on a few years back and left due to high rents in the city. Glad you had a relaxing time exploring.

Beautiful walk! In 1981 I visited Moscow and "Leningrad" (St. Petersburg). There were no crosswalks for pedestrians at that time. Cars had all the rights because they were *important people!* DC looks very walkable! :-D
