You probably remember the old glamorous times: Lana Turner, Ava Gardner, Gene Thierney.... And now you look around you and see: Megan Three Stallion, Madonna and her creepy daughter Lourdes... People don’t write long love letters any more, just a quick “Hi! LOL!” on their cellulars. Mom told me that in the old days “going on a date” meant: meeting the boy near the metro and go for a walk in the Park... and talk about school and projects. And that’s it! From innocent movies like “A Patch of Blue” to “them” Sam Smith dancing in red woman’s underwear at the Grammys. At least you remember the good old times...

I'm listening in 2024 for the sheer amount of hope and honor our country had then and I believe we're desperate for any comfort, distraction from chaos. Always hear a song that will bring a smile, a warming memory of my parents dancing in the kitchen, my mom always had car radio on and sang along. Widowed at 66, now 70 this music is often cathartic in whatever manner, when sounds of trombones, clarinets, trumpets! Bring on the swing!!!❤

My Grandfather (1920-1994) was a WW2 veteran in the South Pacific campaign. I remember him listening to this music when we would visit him. The stories and photos he had were just incredible!!! He passed in 1994 in my early 20s. Whenever I hear this era of music it gives me the fondest of memories of him. I was so fortunate to know my great-grandfather as well (1897-1992 and a WW1 veteran) and his stories were just as amazing. I sure do miss those days when they were on this earth, but I'm blessed to have the wonderful memories.

I read everyone’s kind words of affirmation and love, it’s really the only thing keeping me going. Thank you. To any stranger reading this; I hope you feel at peace, I hope tomorrow brings you joy, I hope that you can see the person you love, To wake up and know that you belong here. Don’t give up. Don’t stop being you. You’re perfect.

As a 22-year-old, I used to listen to Jazz, Swing, and Ragtime music whenever I could get the chance when I was younger. I can't help but imagine what life was like during the 1900s. The Evolution of Music through the 1900s alone is just phenomenal. Even though Art Deco has lost its popularity, before the Mid-Century era began, its impact has forever left its mark on the skyscraper scene and the Music and *Art* scene. There's just something about that era that's....Timeless to me. I'm glad that people are recognizing how amazing that era truly was, and the return of Art Deco just makes it even more reminiscent. Today's music is no match for the beauty of that era, and I mean every word.

I grew up in the 80s and 90s but spent a lot of time with my grandmother because my parents worked crazy hours to support us. I listened to a lot of swing and jazz with her and grew up watching movies like The Rear Window, The Birds, Charade, Breakfast at Tiffany's, etc. I didn't even realize these were "old" movies and "old" songs until I got older. Whenever I hear swing music, it reminds me sitting in my grandmothers kitchen and listening to these songs with her on her record player while she cooked dinner. Now that think about it, I think those movies definitely had an impact on my personality because they've instilled some of the better values from era in me at a young age.

Who says your grand (or great grand) parents didn't rock? They were so much better people than the rabble we have today. The music itself is a reflection of that. Such a better time to be alive. Young, vibrant, and just enjoying life. Hard to imagine in these times...

Every generation says this about past times.. one day people will be romanticising the 2010s and 2020s and saying how great the music was. People will say it was a "far better time to be alive than nowadays, now everything sucks", and so it will go on and on lol. The 30s and 40s included the great depression, the rise of fascism, the continuation of colonisation all across the world, the most deadly war in human history - the music WAS good tho

@@lukaschapman9594 It's because since the 1800s we have been declining as a civilization. No one in the 1800s would rather live in the Dark Ages. It wasn't perfect in the 30s and 40s, but they could have never have imagined of the horrors we'd witness from the 50s onward. I'd rather romanticize the Golden Age of America than the dystopia it turned out as today.

We share your sentiment about the timeless charm of those magnificent big orchestras and the musicians who created such beautiful music. It's true that the era of these orchestras has passed, but their legacy lives on in the hearts of those who appreciate their artistry. Let's continue to cherish and remember the joy they brought us through their music. 🎺🎷🎶

@harrystweed2339 It's wonderful to hear comments like yours from Europe. I agree. And our troops took that music with them as they joined the Allied fight to rid europe of the Nazi curse. It still makes me sad of all the millions of lives lost and the suffering. And from a musical perspective, the loss of Glenn Miller also brings tears to my eyes.😢

It was the time of innocence. Like I said to the gentleman on top of the comments: in the old days “dating” meant meeting her boy near the metro and go for a walk, then maybe buy an ice-cream (if they had the money), and go to the park and talk about school and projects. Then in the late 60’s everything changed...! (The hippies era). Books like “How to talk about sex to your children” appeared. Sexual revolution full speed.. ! Then it kind of “calmed down”, I remember the 80’s as the best time ever. Internet did not exist and who cares! We sent faxes! After year 2000 things began to change... Right now all I see is selfies, duck face and the word “lol”.

So “great” that when a University professor said that MEN can’t get pregnant she got fired! That article is on VIGILANT CITIZEN. And a professor in England lost his job because the called a girl “GIRL”. She identifies as a boy (or a dog), she complained, and he got fired. Men masquerading as women can now join women spa, women’s jails and compete with women in sports. A man masquerading as a woman (“Melody Wiseheart”) can shower with little girls and the Swimming Club’s administration says nothing. G - ays can now go naked during “Prides” the police is not allowed to arrest them. In San Francisco they perform MEGA or gies in the middle of the street, the police does not mind, if this is hard to believe just type: “Folsom pride, o rgy”. Soon it will be this way in ALL cities. Personally, I don't feel any era of music is inherently superior or inferior to any other, and to claim otherwise isn't exactly kind to the many people out there today who are genuinely passionate about making music. Every generation will have people boiling down all the music of the current day to the parts they don't like, while at the same time forgetting or just not knowing about the old music that wasn't good and memorable enough to stand the test of time. I'll happily listen to this playlist, and then I'll turn right around and just as happily listen to songs that came out less than a year ago.

Jitterbug anyone? Mom and dad never said if they did that, but they knew how to Walz and Polka. Since dad was a big Benny Goodman fan he got a clarinet as a kid when he was 9 which would’ve been 1936. He squeaked. I have his clarinet. It’s 88 now. No reeds and the handle rotted off the original case. We saw him in concert in 1975. Dad was so happy. I was in awe seeing dad’s idol.
