I struggled my first time and what helped me was 1. Relax tongue with tongue exercises 2. Practice tongue trills on the *R* sound and when you got that slowly stick your tongue further and further out until you’re doing it. It feels great doing it and I automatically feel my diaphragm breathing properly (not my throat)

This is the most useful vocal exercise I've come across in months. It not only releases tongue tension, but also requires good support from the diaphragm as another viewer mentioned. Two for one! I'm using it in trouble spots I come across practicing songs now, because it corrects tension and placement immediately. Thank you so much!!! ♥ ~Rhonda Huete, Gravity Blinks

I will definitely do this - when i first saw this exercise i thought "pfft, i'm probably past this exercise, seems like just a beginners exercise". But when i actually tried it, i loved it ! - because i was indeed struggling and seeing you do a scale so effortlessly with this exercise that i find challenging definitely shows me that i have something to improve regarding tongue tension. So this exercise is awesome ! - because it immediately shows you whether you have tongue tension or not am i right? - and i find especially practicing without any coaching that it can be hard to determine what your issues might be - and this exercise apparently makes it VERY clear. Love it ! thanks for the vid.

Hi Chris! My osteopath told me that my tongue-floor (I hope that 's the right term, I'm not a native speaker ) is very tense. I mean the soft area between the v-shape of the jaw. So your exercises for tongue tension are very helpful. I tried to incorporate the raspberry into my daily warm up, but I notice that I get a scratchy feeling in the back of my throat every time I do it. I've had lessons for years so I have no trouble to sustain the raspberry when it comes to breathing, but I can not get rid of the scratchy feeling. Perhaps you are able give me some insight what I'm doing wrong? I would very much appreciate it.

Do you gently rest your teeth on your tongue while doing this exercise?

Hello Chris! Is this a good exercise to replace if a student can't do lip trills?

Hi! There are a few who find it difficult initially. You're not alone! It may take time to practice the balance of airflow, and closure of the lips on the tongue. Keep persisting Quion!
