This is a video about how I found relief from my Tarlov Cyst Disease Symptoms. I was only 33 with a 1, 3 and 5 year old boys when l become completely disabled during the year leading up to my surgery. Recovery was long and hard but it was a success! We stopped the progression and even have some healing to the nerves that were damages from S1-S5. I wish there had been more videos when I was going through that hard time of making a decision about surgery in 2015. I knew once I was able to, I would share my story to help other Cysters too!

Thank you so much for sharing your story! I am a military vet and had a hard time finding doctors who would listen to me. I finally took it upon myself to get imaging done and there they were! It has been a struggle to get the surgery. They only prescribe muscle relaxers and PT... i am 33 and feel like im 66. I dont know how i will manage to live like this without the surgery. the pain...my goodness. 24 hrs a day. Hopefully i can get the VA to approve this much needed surgery!

I am so glad you found out what the culprit is behind your pain. I am so sorry you are living through this and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your service. 💜 I am in a FB support group where I *believe* another Vet was able to get them to cover surgery with Dr. Feigenbaum because there are literally only 3 surgeons in the US with the experience required for the best possible outcome. The group is called Tarlov Cysters and Mysters. You Amy find some really good feedback searching old posts in there and also asking a question to the group. I wish you all the best. I know PT and muscle relaxers don't touch the nerve pain and in my case PT made it worse until the post op healing got to a point of tolerating it very slowly.

Congratulations on imagining. The VA should pay for it . Most likely not VA doctors though doing Tarlov excision surgery . Might do a two needle drainage fibrin glue process. Happens when only less than ten experts on earth . In my opinion trigger point epidural steroid injection can exceed surgery quickly and easily for zero pain . Has for me almost three years.

According to my MRI report I have multiple cysts in my thoracic spine. The pain is becoming unbearable and nothing else is showing on my MRI. I do have some herniated discs in my lumbar but my pain is mid back radiating around my rib cage and up my sternum. I go to my follow up with the neurosurgeon in a couple of weeks and I'm so scared he's not going to believe that its caused my the cysts and say theirs nothing wrong. @@annevwheeler4338 I take ibuprofen 800 mg. And I'm thinking of getting a TENS unit. But from my research it's very very rare for cysts in the t spine to be symptomatic. I may go to my pcp and get tested for lupus or connective tissue as talov cysts are linked to lupus and connective tissue diseases and those run through my family on both sides. If that doesnt pan out then I will contact a specialist. Unfortunately I'm at the point where I'm just praying for a diagnosis no matter what it is bc at least I'd be able to start a treatment plan. @@allieh2012 that sounds like an amazing plan. I don't know if you have seen my other videos about the other two health issues I have, that made the TCs more complicated, or not? But yes, I definitely agree 100% that you need to know if there are other underlying issues because having those treated beforehand (in my opinion) will help improve surgery outcomes if you do have symptomatic Tarlov Cysts. I have Ehlers Danlos and Adhesive Arachnoiditis and did not know until years after my TC surgery when things got worse for a while. BUT once those issues were addressed it helped me see how much TC surgery did help with the TC specific issues of my Sacrum. There are things going on at every level of my spine and systemically so that just affects everything, as you know growing up with family members suffering with Lupus. I am hoping you get some answers very soon!!! 💜 Thank you for your encouragement too! 🙏

Hi! I'm just now seeing your comment but hopefully you are about to have surgery on on the healing side of it now. 🙂 My best advice is to take it one day at a time and follow the post op instructions 100%. Remind yourself that healing from nerve reconstructive surgery is not a straight line. There will be ups and downs. On the self care side of things; nutrition, rest, sleep, movement, fresh air, sunshine, gratitude and joy are all important to keep our stress levels low and help our bodies heal. For me personally, my faith is a big part of that. I hope you are doing well and this next step brings restoration to you!

Hi! 😀 I had surgery with Dr. Feigenbaum. I am most familiar with his technique which I believe is published within the medical community. Depending on weather or not the cyst has an open or closed valve that will determine if he needs to fenestrate the nerve before wrapping it in percadium bovine (thin layer covering and protecting a cows heart). Dr. Fegeinbaum did not advocate having my cysts drained and packed with fibrin glue. I had 10 sacral cysts treated and about half of them had closed valves and needed to be fenestrated before being wrapped. The remainder were just manually reshaped and wrapped. He does this recording of the nerve wall to prevent that area from ballooning out and filling with CSF fluid again in the future. Then he uses an absorbable polymer mesh plate to cover the sacral bone he cuts into for surgery. Most people already have thinning or eroding of the sacral bone prior to surgery so the absorbable mesh plate gives the sacral area some more protection after it heals. I believe the other Doctor in California uses a metal or titanium plate and screws. I am not as familiar with his procedure though. I know this is a lot of technical medical jargon but I hope that helps. 💛

Katie, I am so sorry! Unfortunately I do not think that most Doctors are properly educated on how to treat symtomatic Tarlov Cysts. 💛 It sounds like they do understand it is the Tarlov causing pain but they just aren't taking care of the structural issues in the correct way. In my opinion. I am of course not a Doctor. Are you aware of the Tarlov Cyst surgery some people choose to do like myself? There are three in the USA that are recommemded by the Tarlov Cyst Foundation to treat Tarlov Cysts. Let me get you the link to the Tarlov Cyst Foundation so you can have more resources. You can even call her (the President and Founder of the Foundation) and she will help you figure out the next step. Thanks for the great video. I have 2 in my cervical spine on the left at C6 / C7. No idea about the rest of my spine. I have issues on the left side of my neck but I also had whip lash on that side and can feel muscle is involved. So no idea if those cysts are doing anything or not? I have read medical journals where reports have said they are more common than people think and that they are usually benign. I am freaked out because now I am afraid of working out and making them worse or 'waking them up'? How do you know if they are the cause of your issues or not? Is it a good idea to still work out, lift weights or do calisthenics if you have these in you neck but are unsure if they are symptomatic or asymptomatic? Like I said, I had whip lash and a concussion on that side of my head and neck but no idea if the tarlov cysts are to blame? Like I also said, I know a lot is muscle induced because I can feel that muscle on that left side of my neck is completely knotted up and stiff. Sometimes it shoots down my shoulder and arm but very rarely. I also tend to carry my stress in my neck, ie. If I am stressed out, my neck gets very tense and stiffens. After I had the whiplash, they did an MRI to check for any herniated discs in my cervical spine and it was clear and on the report it said there were 2 or 3 (can't remember the number) perineural cysts at levels C6 / C7 on the left side. 🤷‍♂ I don't have any symptoms anywhere else on my spine like in the sacral region etc, knock on wood and thankfully.

Linda, I am sorry I told you the name of the wrong Doctor. I did not realize you had been asking about Tarlov Cysts. The Doctor I went to is named Dr. Feigenbaum. He is located in Dallas, TX and you should be able to consult with him very easily. I recommend calling his office and finding out where they would like you to send a copy of your images. Then ask them about a phone consult and how much it will be. The sooner you get that process started the sooner you will know if your Tarlov Cysts are symptomatic. There are many ways to approach treatment if this is the issue you are dealing with but what Dr. Feigenbaum can do is let you know if in his opinion you are a candidate for surgery. It is a big decision. It has a very long recovery and requires support from you local Doctors in order to have the best outcome during your 1-2 year recovery. BUT it is a miracle for those who truly need it and respond well to it. Please know that you can also choose to see him in person for a consult and that will help you get in much sooner if that is important for you. Here is a link to the Tarlov Cyst Disease Foundation. The surgical candidates list are comprised of people with conditions like autism adhd cystic hygroma Williams syndrome MS chiari malformation Parkinson's disease alzheimers . Counted at least 60 neurological conditions. Fibromyalgia patients are not on the list. To me that says they know we all have it FM patients. Not every case of tarlov = FM though. Plus noticed tcd disease stepping out of the only neurological conditions business . Often mentioned in cahoots with lyme now. Also doctors dont know the MRI technique to get a high intensity image which would may cause a stir with radiology. Every doctor even radiologists neurologist they all say what's that? Heard a ob/ gyn who knew about em on her radio broadcast so yes they are practically the only ones. I'm not ready for surgery. Not because of cautionary tales like Jeannie. A dorsal root ganglion nerve block every quarter by a bilateralist injectionist allows me to function well. Speed be your recovery Anne. By that I dont mean to say you yourself should push it. I'm saying don't.
