I suggest strongly that you buy the COMPANION BIBLE. Scripture, using hermeneutics (one of my hobbies for the past 20 years) by E.W. Bullinger and completed by Moffit, includes appendices that truly details the many misinterpretations that various religions have used to control congregations for selfish reasons rather than preaching the TRUTH. This is often the fault of preachers and seminary faculty who refuse to question what they have been taught. So Judas's sin was not just betraying Jesus Christ, we could say that he had a role to play and he did it, but his sin was greed.

The reason why he couldn't have gone to the soldiers or even just crucified himself is that action comes from external loss and betrayal.
