Religious Tour to the Tomb of Waliyullah and a Brief History of Wali Songo, Spreader of Islam in Indonesia.
The word Wali, comes from Arabic which means a person who is trusted to carry out the task. Meanwhile, the word Songo comes from the Javanese language which means nine. So, Wali Songo is interpreted as nine trusted people who are given the task of spreading Islamic teachings.
Wali Songo has a very important role in the spread of Islam in Indonesia. The struggle of the trustees was not without obstacles, but because it was accompanied by the help of Allah SWT, finally the teachings of Islam were spread.
The trustees preached slowly without disturbing the local traditions and culture at that time. The nine guardians are always associated with the title Sunan by the community. The word Sunan or Susuhunan means a person who is held in high esteem or means noble majesty. The following is a brief history of the nine saints.
1. SUNAN GRESIK.
Sunan Gresik is known as Sheikh Maulana Malik Ibrahim and also known as Sheikh Maulana Maghribi. He was the first guardian who spread Islam on the island of Java, namely when the Majapahit Kingdom was still standing around 1379 AD.
2. SUNAN AMPEL.
Sunan Ampel's real name is Ahmad Rahmatulloh, or also known as Raden Rahmat. He is one of the Wali Songo figures who spread Islam in Java in the 15th century. Sunan Ampel was born in 1401 AD in the Kingdom of Champa, precisely in Phan Thiết City, Vietnam.
Sunan Ampel is the son of Sheikh Ibrahim Zainuddin As-Samarqondy and Dyah Candrawulan, and is still a descendant of Sheikh Maulana Malik Ibrahim.
3. SUNAN BONANG.
Sunan Bonang was born in the late 14th century. Born in Rembang under the name Raden Maulana Makdum Ibrahim. He is the son of Raden Ali Rahmatullah Sunan-Ampel bin Syekh Ibrahim Asmaroqondi.
Sunan Bonang was appointed as the first imam of the Demak mosque with the title of Holy Teacher Imam. The success of his da'wah was assisted by Sunan Kalijaga who gave local color to religious ceremonies such as Eid al-Fitr, the celebration of the Prophet's Birthday, and the commemoration of the Islamic New Year.
4. SUNAN DRAJAT.
Sunan Drajat is thought to have been born in 1470 AD. His first name was Raden Qosim, who later received the title Raden Syarifudin. He is the son of Sunan Ampel and is related to Sunan Bonang who is famous for his intelligence.
5. SUNAN KUDUS.
Sunan Kudus is one of the Wali Songo figures who contributed greatly to the spread of Islam in Indonesia, especially in Java. He is a saint who is well known for his high tolerance towards others.
6. SUNAN GIRI.
Sunan Giri is one of the Wali Songo figures and the founder of the Giri Kedaton Kingdom based in the Gresik area of East Java. Giri Kedaton was built as a center for the spread of Islam on the island of Java. .
7. SUNAN KALIJAGA
Sunan Kalijaga or Susuhunan Kalijaga is a Walisongo figure. He is known as a guardian who is very close to Muslims in Java because of his ability to incorporate Islamic influence into Javanese traditions and culture.
Sunan Kalijaga was born in Tuban in the 14th century. He was born into a Tuban aristocratic family, namely from a regent named Tumenggung Wilatikta and his wife named Dewi Nawangrum. Sunan Kalijaga has the nickname Raden Sahid or is often spelled Raden Said.
8. SUNAN MURIA.
Sunan Muria is a Ulama who is a member of the Wali Songo council. His birth name is Umar Said. He is the son of Sunan Kalijaga and Dewi Saroh bint Maulana Ishaq.
Sunan Muria is known as someone who is easier to approach people such as fishermen, traders and commoners. In his preaching he decided to go to remote areas and away from the hustle and bustle of the city. His residence at that time was at the top of Mount Muria, precisely in the village of Colo.
9. SUNAN GUNUNG JATI.
Sunan Gunung Jati who was born with the name Syarif Hidayatulloh is one of the Wali Songo figures who spread Islam in Java. Sunan Gunung Jati was born in 1448 and died in 1568 AD.
