V 1.0 Reloading the Shred-ER Cartridges by Bug-A-Salt. Turns out we can reload them.
Skip to V4.0 video if you want to skip all of the trial and error we all went through to get an easy clean factory looking load.
In this video I reload the Shred-ER Cartridges using around easily available, water soluble glue, for easy post shooting cleanup and future reloading. This video is intended more as a demonstration of reloading this cartridge. Other adhesives and papers may work better. I chose to go with inexpensive, easily attainable items as one of the reasons to reload these cartridges would be to save money over the factory available cartridges. Also, by using water soluble glue (school glues) it makes for easy fast clean up, to re-use cartridges over and over.
Check out my other Bug-A-Salt videos:

I figured it out. Used a 1.25 hole puncher in tissue paper. This will cover the entire cylinder head perfectly. I purchased a 5/8 leather whole puncher to knock out the middle part of my circle cutout which gives me as close and clean as the manufacturer cutout as you can get. I use a glue stick and it’s clean, fast, and efficient.

Nice work! That is awesome, sounds fast, easy and clean. This is what I hoped for, someone seeing all of the mistakes or labor and figure out a better way without having to work through all of the steps that I did. If I actually get around to reloading any more I definitely do it this way, I still have a ton of factory cartridges that I had bought early on when I started testing the shredder.

@@justanotheravgjoe1314 your videos definitely helped me out and started me on this path. I bought extra cartridges what I plan on doing is only reloading when I have exhausted all my ammo. I’ll put them in a sink with warm soapy water and let it sit for a bit to soften the material, easy cleanup. I’ll make my cutouts ahead of time so it’s as easy as glueing them and filling with salt. If you do a lot at once you will begin seeing savings.

@@kylewestrom7849 after reading your post. I am thinking maybe I should do one final reload video. Give you full credit for the concept and just forward all of the previous reloading videos to that one. I’ll make it short and sweet. I have finally learned to scrap excess footage. When I started making these I thought I had to show each step. 🥱. I could probably make your technique a nice 3-4 minute video. Straight to the point. If ok with you? This is totally yours. I just feed tissue through a xyron sticker maker then stick that to both sides. No muss, no fuss. Then I use a metal chopstick to burnish the edge so it cuts the tissue perfectly. You can also push the center back in so it cuts one side for you.
@justanotheravgjoe1314

That is pretty cool. I had to look up the Xyron Sticker maker as I had no clue what it was. It is also not very expensive, that could prove cost effective over time. How is clean up? That has been my main issue with trying different material and adhesives is prep time after shooting them. Do the stickers come off easily?
@Endoplasmic-Reticulum
@Endoplasmic-Reticulum 3 жыл бұрын
@@justanotheravgjoe1314 The xyron has different choices of adhesive. You want to order the “repositionable adhesive” . The cleanup is super easy. The tissue and adhesive will roll off kinda like rubber cement when you have spent the cartridge. If you precut the tissue using two sizes of punch, then when it goes through the xyron, it has only the tissue paper sticker and no outlining adhesive. It’s as close to factory specs as you can get. I even made a jig to precisely align my placement. Have fun and be safe.

get a wooden dowel that's just slightly smaller diameter than the cartridge such that you can stack like 6 papers on top of each other, hold the end of the dowel down on them, and just in one quick trace with an exacto/razor, you could cut out a bunch of perfect circle blanks for use as the front and back covers. this would save time and fiddling with trying to trim bits off the outside. you'd still have to trim the inside hole in the middle, but that's not nearly as much work as having to do all those little indents on the outside edges.

You can buy single hole punches that are slightly bigger than the bore of the cylinders, so you could save on tissue paper, just punch out a whole lot of them at once then lay glue down on the cylinder and use those fine tweezers to apply them to the cylinder. Probably a bit more work but you don't have to trim the excess.

Pretty good but some suggestions to make it easier. Get an automotive trim adhesive like 3M 8080 or similar, and spray the paper instead of applying to the plastic discs. You can also use a silicone adhesive like Beacon 3 in1 and smear it on the paper with your finger. Apply the glued papers to the discs and then let the glue dry a few hours before trimming. And get an exacto knife. Should work much better.

I am actually working on a video now of a shred-er and Crosman vigilante comparison, will be using the cartridge in vigilante. I have had some viewer comments about converting the shred-er to shoot pellets. I don't think I am going to be doing that. Would not be difficult you have to remove (a dremel would work easily) a plastic divider at barrel entrance, but the Shred-Er has a plastic barrel. I don't know if it would hold up well with repeated pellet usage. I think salt through a pellet gun should be fine though.

I don't shoot as much salt as everyone seems to think from the videos. But yes this has been a concern of mine from the start, Shred-er, doesn't actually put out that much salt, the cylinders are .177 and only half full, which I discovered after making this video. But I have been looking at alternatives as well, corn cob media or maybe used coffee grounds. 🤷‍♂️. Mostly for the videos, I don't actually use these that often.

@justanotheravgjoe1314

In V.4 reloading it is much quicker and easier. I noticed that the Factory cartridges are not full, maybe half. Those half filled cartridges hit really hard. I loaded some half way and are very powerful, preferred to the full cylinders. I wouldn't use these inside around anything like computers, finished furniture, fragile items. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rK6FY9SGm7TQqmg.html I shot it at some hard/smooth plastic surfaces and it etched the surface pretty badly. I had a fly on my camera stand on one filming and I shot it with the Shred-Er. Again, etched a pretty nice salt pattern in the hard plastic. I just use the Bug-A-Salt 3.0 inside, but even then I don't use around the monitors, computers or other electronics. I just shoo the fly until in a better location. I'm not sure if I answered your question, but I hope that helps. 😁👍🏽

It never occurred to me to try water, especially on such thin paper, cleanup would be a breeze. Hmm, but that would mean that I don't get to peel off the school glue residue off of my fingers when I'm done 🤔. But I was thinking of a quick final video and putting forwarding messages on all of the old ones as I now have fast/easy cut out layovers and can load several discs in minutes. Water though, that would be a total game changer. Thanks, 👍🏽

Yes, this is definitely a kick in the wallet, and you are not wrong. You don't have to make your own loads though. You can buy them but that is another expense $12 for 12 ($1 each). The loading videos (1-3) were really brainstorming videos seeking input from viewers. V4.0 is really the one that came through as quick and easy. You can do this with a Crosman vigilante that is ~1/2 the cost of the shred-er (as long as you don't mind the black revolver 😁). I did the comparison of the Vigilante and shred-er here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rpmGiNCissCWpGg.html Thanks for watching.
