Walking to class in the snow wearing my trench coat listening to Reckoning on my Sony Walkman. REM was the soundtrack to the happiest moments of my life.

This is the REM that I loved and will always remember. My friend always said she hated how Michael sounded like he was whining when he sang... if that was true, Michael Stipe could whine like no other! Would have loved to have been at one of those early gigs ❤️

Its great to see the original lineup playing together. Man...hearing "Harborcoat" brings me back to my college days. We lived for socializing, dancing, and music. Not in any specific order, mind you. I worked at the college readio station and I championed early REM music. These songs were great the first time I heard them, and I bet years from now people will love them just as much!!

I think anybody who saw them do this song and a few others live back then were instantly life long fans, and if most are like me, still think the first few albums were collectively the best. ATFTP is an all time great album, but nothing beats the energy of the early R.E.M.

Thank you for posting these. I am R.E.M.'s 2nd biggest fan (after Bill of course). Could not live without these guys.

Peter Buck looks,plays,and moves around exactly like Pete Townshend did in The Whos early shows. Even the Rickenbacher is a near duplicate. Uncanny.

Naw, I think you're right. And yes, Cyndy Stipe does teach deaf children. His younger sister, Lynda, was in the band Oh-OK, during the early 1980's in Athens.

R.E.M. were so F'n cool back then. You could take all the hip-hoppers and divas today and combine 'em and they aren't half as awesome as these cats were.
@WickedWings0717 жыл бұрын
I agree. But they most likely will never play it live again. I had read somewhere that Peter refuses to play this song live for some reason, which is a shame because it's such a great song.

ah...when I got Murmur in 83, I was a junior in high school. I graduated high school a week after this show. Started college in chapel hill later that summer. Those were very good times, and r.e.m. was the soundtrack for our coming of age then.

People go on about nirvana saving rock n roll. No REM in the 80s at this critical point and there’s no Nirvana. Don’t get me wrong, Nirvana was talented, but REM was far superior
