Usually, no. Changelings get a specific set of 3-4 objectives, but they would only need to ever absorb someone if they get the objective to “Absorb another changeling.” This is the only objective that requires absorption, but even were that not the case, absorption is the easiest way for a changeling to assassinate another changeling without giving them the chance to revive. However, there are a few OTHER reasons why a ling might absorb someone: • Taking the identity of someone with access to your objective is a whole lot easier if they’re a husk in a locker within maints • The escape with someone else’s identity objective can often involve absorbing someone for the same reason. • Obviously, for normal assassination targets, it would also be a good idea to husk them, as changeling husks cannot be unhusked or cloned without an upgraded cloner. Revival is much harder for these and requires knowledge that most medical doctors do not have, so its an extra layer to ensure that your objective remains completed. • Furthermore, absorbing another changeling gives you ALL of their stored DNA, so its great for the “Extract more compatible genomes than any other Changeling” objective. • Even if entirely unrelated to your objectives, absorbing someone else is the only way to be able to readapt your abilities.
