It has been 215 days since 'The Event' I continue to remain indoors.

"Well, I'm afraid that's it for this week's quiz broadcast as there's no one else. T-There's no one else..." "People will come" "...let's stand together" "Are you there?" "...yes..." Within seconds, this sketch captured the feeling of being the last ones ever and the crippling loneliness that follows, knowing that you'll die with no help. No home. No hope.

*chuckles* "Oh yes, post-event the world would have been a different place if we'd been able to keep even some of the children alive." Lol. Probably my favourite of the Mitchell and Webb sketches.

I love the mixed emotion after they all died. It's like, sure, they were zombie mutants hellbent on killing everyone, but they were still human once and at least some vestige of humanity was surviving through them. And then suddenly, they all just died. Leaving the survivors safe but somehow even worse off.

This has to be one of the best recurring bits in the history of sketch comedy. I'm in awe.

Sometimes, man's ability to adjust to just about anything is pretty depressing.

I discovered this collection in that year we don't like to mention. You know, the one after 2019. Watched it over and over, possibly for instructional purposes. We'll never know. I think I shared it with my "family members", (whatever that means) for perhaps a reason. In place I live, the event began with not being allowed to be inside with strangers, then there was fire and smoke and we couldn't go outside by ourselves, or breathe the air. Of course, we REMAINED INDOORS.

The idea being that "the event" was the result of the President of the World drinking the last of his second beer of the day. The punchline is: " a man with access to nuclear weapons should never get a bit fighty", so if you buy my unproven memory of intended sketch order, and also think that they sometimes intended Mr. Show like sketch connectors, then we can presume that is what "The Event" was intended to be. It might be inspired by or referencing Protect and Survive because they are British and turning Protect and Survive into a game show would be a comical escalation of its absurdity. Far far far less likely, that they were thinking of the Fallout game series or corona virus, but i get that those are things in your direct perception with a broad thematic relationship to this, so.... i get it.
