Back in the OG good DS days so many games supported DS Download play, but for the 3DS, I can only think of one game and that is Mario Kart 7.

The cool thing is that Clubhouse Games kinda has something like DS Download play. If you have the demo, you can play the full game online with someone who has the full game.

DS download play was truly ahead of its time. In an era where video games were often played locally together, it was a treasure to have this function around, simply because of how easy it was to set up and play (not to mention nearly all of Gen Z owned a DS of some kind.) Being able to play SM64DS in the back of the bus back in the DS' prime was a gift I didn't yet realize would be limited, but at least I, and many others were able to share that same feeling of joy and excitement over the mere concept of playing games, without any wires or an internet connection. I understand this isn't entirely related to download play, but being able to play some DS & 3DS games from start to finish with a friend, through local multiplayer, might be one of the best things about the DS console library, next to download play. Playing Kirby Super Star Ultra, and NSMB 2 cooperatively with my best friend, on the go, were perfect, and are memories I'll never forget. Let the DS's legacy live on through the next generation, so everyone can play together with only one game card required - and not cope with online multiplayer only games, using a subscription, with no local/splitscreen functionality. This was the first video I watched from your channel, and I'm impressed this hasn't gotten algorithmed. Well done, Nikolini, you earned yourself a subscriber.

DS download play will always hold a special place in my heart, every day before and after school on the bus me and three other kids would spend hours battling each other in metroid prime hunters’s download play mode, and it’s something I honestly miss dearly

Actually, It Takes Two has a little feature called the Friend's Pass edition. The Friend's Pass is free, and if your friend has a copy of the game, then you can play with them at no cost. Basically, they have one-copy multiplayer. And that's rad.

I just got a DS and my uncle and my cousin have 2DS’s and their modded. So they just install games on and I can download play them if they are DS games and they don’t even have an actual gamecard.

Little late, but nice video. Gonna check out your channel. Also, I remember than on the Nintendo Wii there was this thing called the Nintendo Channel. If your Wii had a connection to the Internet, then you could select from a list of DS game demos and the WIi would send the demos over to your DS via Download Play. I played the shit out of the demos back in the day; as a kid it was just magical.

I think they felt Download play was redundant on Switch since you can plug it into a TV and play chouch games. The Switch's version of this gimmick is to hand you freind a joy con and huddle around the one screen, not nearly as cool but can have a similar effect in some places.

Download Play mode was unfortunately usually rather limited compared to two cartridge play. Still, this was the closest it got to PC gaming where we just copied the game disk to play in LAN, if the game even needed to have the disk inserted in the first place.

I do, but sometimes it takes a really long time and also one of my DS almost died 😞

NIKO NIKO NIIIIIIII I never owned a DS, so I never knew that this was a thing, but god DAMN would this be so cool to have on the Switch. Imagine going over to your buddy's place, and you wanna play some Super Mario Party, but you don't own the game so you can't play those 2-console games. But then your pal says the magic words: "ONLY ONE GAME CARD REQUIRED." So then you get to play the tank minigame while complaining that one shot shouldn't have hit because you were 6.9 meters away from the freaking bullet. Shame Nintendo doesn't do this kinda cool stuff anymore...
