Fellow GenXer here; life was great in the 70s & 80s (of course never appreciated it at the time); now I'm taking small steps to live how we once did - starting with no social media, more reading (books, not scrolling), more outdoors & getting away from the phone! (except for watching vids like this!) It's amazing how much one can do not being distracted by social media; if only more ppl could do this - social media, posting selfies etc gets you nowhere! (I understand many will disagree)- thanks for this vid

I'm a Gen-xer also and you are absolutely right! It's funny seeing people's faces when I tell them I don't have Facebook, or Tiktok, or whatever else is out there. I rather be present and enjoy the life that's in front of my face.

I don't think technology is the issue, it depends on how you use it. Most lack discipline with social media but it can be used to learn things faster and be used to stay in touch with ppl that are far away. That's why I try to maintain my browsing to things that can better develop my skills and useful hobbies

@@johnhernandez284 Absolutely agree with you there re. tech & family connections (although one can connect long distance without FB) & great for businesses too (and many businesses have a formal website), but I'm referring to those not as sensible as yourself, who can't moderate, whose life is consumed by it, those with MH issues caused by it, youths who are so addicted to it such that it's impacting their education and robbing them of a life, and those who rely solely on it for info rather than traditional means. There was life before SM and we seemed to cope just fine, but yes, I do agree with you :-)

GenX'er here also. Other than KZfaq videos I haven't social media and keep away. I'm trying to get back to nature myself, especially out in the woods, hiking in the country or tending the garden. I do doom scroll a bit which I'm trying to stop as it's corrosive to the soul I think.

72 yrs on this earth that none own. I ran with all my brothers, we did not know that we were poor, no one told us. Not parents, neighbors, nor family. We all were at the same level, I guess. I learned to can, pluck and dip chickens and turkeys, helped wrap the venison and elk. We had water turns for the fields. We filled the coal bucket. We had chores that were done, or suffer the consequences. Harsh, but others were counting on us. I know it was better. I know. It was the best of times for us all.

Our day to flood the fields was on Tuesday. We would stand in the canal and peel off the 2x4's one by one to let the water in. Used the spillway as a water slide. We were 12 years old (I have a twin brother) We rode our horses to that spot. What a time to be alive. Believe it or not, it was the 80's! You have seen much more than me at 47 but damn, brother. I feel you.

There seems to be a segment of a generation that hates us. The "ok boomer" phrase is as derogatory a term that has come down pike. A society that doesn't respect their elders is doomed. They don't respect the unborn, the elders, what do they respect? Greed.

People are looking back on that time while wearing rose-colored glasses. Problems still existed back then just as they do now, and you can argue it was a lot worse than how it is now in some aspects. There will ALWAYS be some kind of problem in life. The internet and social media are just an evolution to the problems that people faced back then.

We had very little but didn't know it. Grew a large garden and preserved our food. Hunted deer for meat. Made our own clothes and repaired them. Played outside all day and did the chores we had to do. Outside was our playground and nature taught us the rules. Sadly, most younger people will never understand how free our generation was.

Wise words Bjorn. I think that we have seen that many people do not actually want freedom and are happy to go along with whatever programs are fed to them. I am so grateful that I grew up without technology and I am very aware of how it has become a mind control tool used to separate people from their organic true nature. Also I have hope as there are many people reconnecting to nature and themselves in these times too!

I also grew up without the cell phone, the internet and computers, we did not even have a house phone and were limited to a black and white tv that only had 2 viewing channels available. I've always known our current way of life is wrong and even at the age of about 5 I wanted to learn the arts of spinning and weaving amongst many other traditional things. I felt that we needed to preserve these arts for the future. Quite profound for a 6 year old child.

Well you are the generation that let the western world slip into tyranny. Yall did absolutely nothing to preserve freedoms for future generations, yall actually did everything possible to sell off and shackle up any and every thing you could, truly shutting the door behind you forever. All for infinite profits. You took the most prosperous nation the world has ever seen, and turned it into the most indebted in recorded human history.... So think about that before lecturing us on "wisdom". You may have had wisdom, but you didnt apply it. You thought of yourselves and yourselves only.

As a milennial born in 1990 i grew up without all this stuff too. I didnt get internet (dial up) or a flip phone til my senior year in highschool (2008). I grew up spending all my time outside. I feel i am the last generation (first half of millennials) to remember how it felt to have freedom in the outside world. But yes i do agree being outdoors in nature is the best thing for everyone. The more the better. I hate modern society and i wish it was easy to shift my family's life off grid but they make it almost impossible by design... keep spreading the wisdom Bjørn! Thank you for what you do. Skål. 🍻

I grew p with the blackboard and chalk. Not eve a calculator. I absolutely was more free, - free range..and natural. No playstations, mine was a stream, hiding in the corn, climbing trees and making a camp in bullrushes. The sun was yellow in a deep bue sky. How I wish the children of these days had all of that. I was very fortunate

We walked through the cornfields to school. Super cool and spooky. In the fall, we would break off an ear, shuck it down and eat on the way. What a treat. What a memory. Thank you. It felt as if the world was ours and ours alone.

I'm 67 now but used to hike in the mountains of Colorado and Utah in the '60's and '70's enjoying nature. I even came within 10' of a badger once and knew better than to try to approach and pet it like a dog. Today people would try to feed and pet it!

I'm French and the happiest I am is when I go hiking in the French forests and mountains. This was the lifestyle for thousands of years in medieval France and Gaul beforehand. We lived in smaller villages and spent our lives crafting and hunting. I think the modern lifestyle is anti-human. It brings lots of comfort, but also mental degradation.

I escape to the hills and woods when I can. The only time I feel totally at peace. It's wonderful, a balm for the soul. I am of your generation too. I spent part of my youth growing up in Africa. The experience of the Rift Valley in Kenya was my moment of realisation, at the age of 9, that we are a speck on this planet, but what a glorious, comforting realisation it was. Tvs many did not even have home phone or house tv they used the one down the street if occupied you had to wait until theyd finished or use neighbours if they had one. It was a slower pace of life much better than now. Do we have a government i dont think so. Susposed to reperesnt us not any mkre it seams. In 1776 in usa they said no taxation without representation . Seams we are going in reverse and not learning from mistakes of history more the pitty.

Keep in contact with my kids, it’s just me and my husky here and should I need 911- it’s useful … texting the kids regularly but it’s only data. I can’t get internet in here where I’m at. I never carried my phone with me but do now in town since they took away the LAST pay phone 😡. And this scan BS. Like 🙄 not everyone HAS a cellPhone … the more you work the more you pay out. Bjorn, the ultimate goal of these overlords is so they can have the power of life and death. They will decide who is worthy of life and who is not. These are dangerous times in which we live. Who can have the power to buy or sell, own property, etc. It will become more apparent in the next five years. People will not realise it until the sword begins to fall.

When I watch videos like yours I get an urge to just sell all my stuff and go live in the woods.
