Hi JetPens!! I have noticed that many of countries don't have a notebook which are bigger than 200 page but in countries like India and China were there are lot of maths and writing work in one year. I would like you to review the following notebooks: 1. Hitashi- 400 page notebook 2. Classmate- 400, 600 page notebook I would also like to hear your suggestion in notebooks of range 400-600 page notebook as an average student in Atleast India uses such 4 to 5 notebook in 1 year starting just from the age of 13 yrs.

I'm sooo guilty of 積読 (tsundoku, i.e. buying books without reading them), but I have a couple of Japanese novels and manga in Japanese on my TBR list. At my current proficiency level, it's going to take me a while just to get to the easier ones, but I got to start somewhere. I like the idea of the reading journal. I usually just grab a journal from my stash, like a LT 1917 or a Conifer view. I may incorporate some ideas from the Marks Edit. I"m still experimenting with Pilot Coleto Color and Pentel Nano Dia colored pencil leads for highlighting. Wax pens are also on the table... I really like the idea of the Stalogy Translucent Sticky Notes. A dedicated reading COCK is also a great investment. Just roll it to the room you need your books and stationery.

There are far too many on my list. I just try to read everyday. My tips for reading are 1) Challenge yourself to a Classic Novel e.g. Les Miserables by Victor Hugo or Any Charles Dickens. 2) If you don't engage with a book within 2 or 3 chapters - it's not worth continuing. 3) Read Motivational and Inspirational books to move you on in life and to achieve your goals. 4) Create a list of at least 20 books to read in a year. 5

As an historian, I can only sigh ruefully when I see people declaring it's a sin to write in a book! If historic figures hadn't written in their books, how would we know what they thought? The museum where I work is a private library built by Lew Wallace, who wrote Ben-Hur. He underlined passages and even wrote "Bosh!" next to things he disagreed with. It's a fascinating insight into his thought processes! I suppose now days we could achieve the same with sticky notes, as mentioned in the video, but sticky notes eventually fall out or get accidentally moved, so writing directly in the book appeals to me most. 😀

This reminds me of my 1st boyfriend who gave me the book I really wanted fir my birthday. I come from a family of teachers so I was accustomed to the gift-giver writing a sweet encounter note in the front cover (I was the child who begged for books as gifts,lol). Anyway my boyfriend didn't inscribe the book so I asked him to take it home & do so. He seemed very uncomfortable with the thought of 'desecrating' a book. So when he returned it he inscribed a post-it instead & stuck it to the 1st page. Hmm maybe I should add glue to make sure my "book plate" stays adhered.

The elementary I went to would not allow it since we passed them down to the next gen... It stuck to me to not write in them but for me it was fun finding someone else's notes and trying to guess who did it so I can thank them because I had found the answer to my assignment at the time....

For most of my life I couldn't bear the thought of writing in my books. It felt like I was defiling a precious piece of art. In more recent years, with books I own, I've decided that since they belong to me, I should make them as useful as I need them to be. And if that means writing a note in them, then I do so! Keeping the book pristine takes me back to the time when my Aunt covered all her furniture with those transparent plastic covers that made you sweat when you sat on them. My take was always, you're only keeping them nice for the next owner! Until then they're horrible to sit on! I do, however use a pencil when I annotate books. That way I can erase them easily if I want to.

Another tip I have is to use my highlighter on the very edge or corner of important pages, so I can easily find them again. I don't like a lot of page flags sticking out and looking sloppy or getting bent, so highlighting the page's edge is a nice alternative.

those translucent sticky notes look so handy. i normally don’t like writing in books because i write messy at times and want to go back and rewrite the notes. also great for people who are renting books or are planning on reselling them.

I love translucent sticky notes for annotating school books & articles. I highlight and make notes in my books & on the articles, but sometimes I have too much to write. I can use more than 1 translucent sticky note & still see what text I am writing about. There are also coloured translucent sticky notes that you can use to colour code your thoughts/notes.

Don't forget about Pilot Frixon, I love using them for taking notes because they erase very well & I can keep my notes very clean & neat. Make sure you NEVER leave your pens or notes in a hot car. Heat makes the pens unable to write & makes the ink dissappear.

i know this is a long time after, but if you can get a fine tipped permanent marker (staedtler triplus permanent and muji's oil based twin tip marker are the two i have) they write the best onto the transparent sticky notes!

one tip that helps me is just sliding my pen along the lines of the book faster than my reading pace and that helps me read faster without mentally saying the words in my head

I found it helpful to keep an index on one of the blank pages in a book. I will write a short blurb like, "quote by ____" and reference the page number. Creates a quick way to find what I think is the most important thoughts.

I'm surprised you didn't mention pilot frixion as an option for writing erasable notes in books! I like to keep a log of my reading in my Hobonichi. I write the title and pages read on each day I read it, and keep a list in the back of books read, and any pages (dates) where I wrote thoughts on the book. It's fun to go back at the end of the year to see how much I've read!

I literally just ordered replacement ink for my Pilot Frixion so that I could annotate books more! This is my go-to for writing in books because of its small tip, multiple color options and lack of bleeding through pages. I tend to use colored pencils to underline/highlight and then the Pilot Frixion to make notes. For more extended stuff, I tend to make use of a journal and fountain pen, though this is more of reflective stuff than short notes.

As an English teacher, my texts are annotated and sticky-noted to a point that would make some people crazy.The annotations help me remember not only which passages to discuss, but the insights of my students, what lessons worked well, connections to be sure to make, and answers to questions students typically have. Not having my annotated text would set me back a decade of teaching years. Different color inks, carefully placed page flags, longer comments on sticky notes--every possible strategy of annotating shows up one place or another.

Omg wait, fold out notes are genius! I always just use sticky notes. On my TBR are Clarice lisepector’s Crónicas and Mary Oliver’s upstream. I use a travelers notebook as a reading journal with three inserts. One for notes, one for reviews, and a monthly insert as an overview. My favorite tools to annotate with are page flags, sticky notes, the Mitsubishi writing pencil and frixion highlighters. If it’s a poetry collection, I use the frixion stamps to mark a little star or heart next to my favorite poems

A decade too late, but a few of these probably would've made schooling a lot easier for me. I had to get creative with blue painters tape to attach notes (because it's easier to peel off) on books. Lol, still, the stationery addict in me is hearing the beckoning call with some of those products.

Sticky tabs are great for cookbooks, I use them to mark recipes I want to try so I don’t get in a rut making the same things again and again.

I think there's some writable/erasable transparent sticky notes u can add to book pages. I remember using them in school text books to add notes on the side without drawing too much attention. I also like having a side notebook to write notes in and I adopted doing that from my English class when we had to keep one with our readings.

I love the options for annotating without marking book pages permanently. I also am so glad you linked the reading notebook. It looks wonderful. My favorite reading journal has been discontinued so I have been looking for a suitable replacement. I prefer a journal that has plain pages and isn’t decorative. The only problems is, I would need 2 a year.

Add your colour code to the beginning of your book so when you go back to it/reread it, you know what means what. If you use tabs, rotate your colours, so you aren’t always running out of the same colours, especially if you have repeating categories. For example, lots of people use pink tabs and ink to annotate love and romantic things. It’s my angry colour in my current read. I’ve also used yellow and purple, so I can help them run out more evenly. And I use the rest up with non-fiction because I usually need less colour options.

I have tiny handwriting so I love Kokuyo Tack Memo for quick/tiny annotations, and transparent ones for bigger notes.

For highlighting, I go with Steadler Classic inkjet safe and color pencils or even kids' crayons. Steadler Classic Inkjet Safe highlighters do not smear water based fountain pen inks. The Colors version is good enough for pigment based fountain pen inks. Regular color pencils and crayons never bleed through and are versatile, especially when doing mindmap and sketch notes as u read. Color pencils and crayons are perfect for Bibles as well. Other options are not as versatile and economical as these in my country.

I have used most of the video ideas. For a academic work I use multiple colors of fine point felt tips for margin notes and underlining with a straight edge. I rarely use highlighters; if I do I only highlight one or two words. For non-academic non-fiction I use pencil. I circle any word I don't know and jot the definition in a notebook.

I have made a separate notebook for taking notes from mainly non - fiction books, in case of fiction I read them on my e-reader so I annotate it on the device itself. I never like to write or highlight on any of my physical books unless its a book that I won't keep, for those I mainly use pencils, erasable highlighters or sparkle pens.

I find that very interesting...I asume you don't want to write in your favourite books, because you don't want to demadge them? I was like that like 10 years ago....until I found one of my favourite books in an open bookshelf and someone highlighted sentences in it - I guess their favourite quotes - and I found it so fascinating and realized that this book was once loved. It LOOKED read. Back then I was very careful with my books but then I thought "wow. this book looks so loved. It's beautiful. It does not look like a book standing in a bookstore that will maybe never be read." since then I don't care about broken spines or highlighting and writing in them :D But I do totally understand that not every booklover is like that.

May I suggest, since I have tried a few highlighters (from your store!) The Propus window highlighters are the peak of no-bleed-thru annotations 👌🏻 I also love to write with ballpoint pens with thin nibs, my current go to is the Uni Jetstream Edge for it's 0.38 nib but I'm considering picking up some colored 0.5 ballpoints to assign different characters or emotions to the colors. I still haven't figured out flagging my pages so I'm sticking to highlighting and pens 😅

Oh!! Also, get yourself a pencase for your annotating tools!!! That's made the process easier and portable! And a ruler to make your highlighted sections nice and neat! If you want to use post-its you found on Etsy but they don't stick, use a teeny snippit of washi tape to tape down the top corners of the note!

If you're taking notes inside a book but you don't want permanent marks, get the Pilot Frixion highlighters and pens! They are erasable, I REALLY like them and I think you'll like them too! 😉

Your list is very close to how I've always read. My grandmother was a school teacher who specialized in teaching children to read & reading comprehension. Your list quite similar to the skills she taught me at a very young age about how to read everything from my Bible, textbooks & reading for pleasure. As an autodiadict these products will be very beneficial.

I always have a hard time reading a book that's already been marked up, and for myself... as soon as I write on a page I regret it. Did I highlight the right thing? Am I going to think that's stupid later? Will I even remember *why* I highlighted that section?

When I annotate paper books, I only use sticky notes and page flags. It’s nice to be able to remove or change notes. I hate permanently marking the page or smearing the ink with highlighters.

I annotate my non-fiction stuff the most. My thoughts RARELY fit into a margin so it's little bits of notepaper taped in like flaps for me. I use something a bit sturdier than washi tape though because other folks sometimes borrow my books

I use my Kokuyo Jibun Techo Biz to track reading progress each day, and list read books in the "Book List" section. I also use the Kokuyo Idea book to create "to-buy" lists of books.

I find that very interesting...I asume you don't want to write in your favourite books, because you don't want to demadge them? I was like that like 10 years ago....until I found one of my favourite books in an open bookshelf and someone highlighted sentences in it - I guess their favourite quotes - and I found it so fascinating and realized that this book was once loved and that someone read sentences that impressed them, that I just read and didn't feel the same way they probably did. It LOOKED read. Back then I was very careful with my books but then I thought "wow. this book looks so loved. It's beautiful. It does not look like a book standing in a bookstore that will maybe never be read." since then I don't care about broken spines or highlighting and writing in them :D I now, find it kinda scary seeing bookshelves full of books that look like they were just bought to sit in a shelf with no sign someone ever opened them after buying them... You can see exactly how much I loved a book by how 'used' it looks. :D

I understand your point, but I come from a huge family where all books are, at some point in our life, passed down to another member of the family, so imagine leaving your thoughts and markings, and the next one too, and the third one... the fifth one would be confused and biased for our markings, highlights, opinions... we were encouraged to have a notebook to fill with all our impressions, questions... Later, if we have questions or something to say, that was encouraged too, OFC, and leave the book as pristine and clear of notes as possible also, they last longer LOL

There's really no point in annotation if you're reading for fun, because then it just becomes a chore.

Depends on the book for me. Even if you read them fpr fun, self-help books contain info you'd want to rememeber for later use. So annotating helps retain the info you learn.

This. Is not how to be better reader this is how to waste your money. Like all the tips are helpful but traditional thats everybody. Uses. If you really want to be good reader here's. Few tips ; - don't read fast ( reading fast makes everything writen would be hard to understand. And reading books is for. Understanding. New theories. And info ! ) -try to understand. Instead of trying to read (just like the previous tip) -highlight things you're. Interested in, Or underline it -make booknotes if you feel like taking notes.
