HUGE Bob Denver fan here! Believe it or not, I actually have every episode of "Far Out Space Nuts" (and "Dusty's Trail") stored on an external hard-drive. I'm 54 years old and still revisit these from time to time.

I don't know why I never watched this show. I had been a big fan of Bob Denver from _Gilligan's Island_ and _The Good Guys._ And I grew up watching and loving the brilliant kids' shows created by Chuck McCann on WNEW out of New York in the sixties. When I was in Kindergarten and 1st grade, Kroft Super Stars would come on right when I normally came home from school. Whenever it played an episode of Far Out Space Nuts I got excited because it was my favorite of the Kroft shows. There was one episode where the Nuts not only get back to Earth, but travel back in time to the point where they accidentally launched only to make the same mistake again. That was my favorite episode and contributed to my life long love of time travel stories. I wasn't too bright though as a kid. Because whenever it came on I thought the one guy in it looked a lot like Gilligan (Gilligan's Island was on in the early evenings then) but it couldn't be Gilligan because his hair was lighter and his face a little older. I thought maybe they wanted a guy like Gilligan to be in the show, so they found somebody that was like Gilligan but not Gilligan.

Bob Denver also played another character, Rufus Butterworth, in a CBS prime-time sitcom, THE GOOD GUYS. He appeared as friend and eventual diner co-owner w/ Bert Gramus, played by Herb Edelman, who starred in Sat. morning's BIG JOHN LITTLE JOHN years later. Joyce Van Patten (Dick's sister) played Bert's wife, Claudia, and Jim Backus, yes Mr. Howell, played her father once or twice.

I loved this show! The episode I remembered most was the one where Barney and Junior are given a chance to get back to Earth. However, they weren't allowed to take Honk with them. I actually teared up when they said their goodbyes to Honk. It really got to me. Imagine how happy I was when after returning to Earth, Junior and Barney really had it made in space. So they launched (not lunched) themselves back into space and retrieved Honk. Would love to find the old episodes somewhere.

I loved far out space nuts as a kid. I think it used to be the last show to come on in the Saturday morning show lineup. I loved all those Kroft superstars shows!

for years, I've been trying to remember what this t.v. show was called...... thanks!❤ I used to watch it all the time, and truly ~loved~ it so, but when I'd ever mention it, no one ever knew what I was ever talking about.... 😕 thank you so much for your video! 💞

Great content as always Dave. I didn’t see this in the UK but when I saw the still of the cast at the controls, I thought ‘Red Dwarf’!

I need to check this show out again. I vaguely remember watching it as a kid, but I did strongly remember the "Lunch/Launch" goof that set them off on their short- lived adventure. I think the only character Bob Denver played that wasn't a Gilligan-esque type character was Maynard in Dobie Gillis. (I could be wrong though).

You're right, Martok. And...Maynard was an influence in the creation of Shaggy from Scooby Doo!

@@jdsundstrom Indeed. I read comments further down, and yes, Bob Denver had quite the influence. I would like to have met him.
