"One day the pain and the grief will lessen, and I will be able to look back and laugh at some of our antics. I know for sure my life was truly blessed for having Eric in it." -- Brandon Bernstein

I wonder what life, the sport, and JFR could be if we didn’t lose Eric. Rest in Peace, Eric

Eric Medlen had a soft spot for kids. My friend had a handicapped young son that went to the Gators that year (as did I as I was racing there)... Eric saw my friend and his son and lifted the ribbon and invited them into his pit. Eric showed them the car, the trailer, and talked with them alot that afternoon. The next day Eric was dead. My friend's son passed away not long afterwards. Eric was a very very good guy.

All men die, but not all men live. Eric did that in spades. The bond he had with his dad is something special!

I have been a hardcore Force fan since 85 and go see them every year and watched Eric win at Sonoma, Words cant explain the empothy for family and JFR. It is so rare that a freak episode like this happened and hopfully many will benefit with some fixes.Eric got better as a driver every year and I will miss him at the races this year. Very accesable and kind and fun. It is a shame that the good die young

Being born and raised in Oakdale, my family and I had been lucky enough to know the Medlens since before I was born. John helped my dad build his first hotrod back in the early 80s. I was so blessed and honored to know Eric.... We all miss him to this day. From myself, my family and my friends at oak Valley hospital who knew you as well... Rest my friend. We love you and miss you

I'm copying and pasting what I just wrote above...but this is who Eric was as a man: Eric Medlen had a soft spot for kids. My friend had a handicapped young son that went to the Gators that year (as did I as I was racing there)... Eric saw my friend and his son and lifted the ribbon and invited them into his pit. Eric showed them the car, the trailer, and talked with them alot that afternoon. He made them feel welcome, and he was genuinely happy to interact with my friend's handicapped son. The next day Eric was dead. My friend's son passed away not long afterwards. Eric was a very very good guy.

colin mcrae and his son, dale earnhardt sr, eric medlen, force was almost taken. racing is dangerous, if you dont respect it, it will kill you. even when you do it still can. at least they died doing the one thing they loved. God Speed Eric. to all the other racers out there.. stay safe and god speed.

As a 10 year old kid and older he had a personality that matched the 11,000 horsepower funny car he would one day drive. I see his memorial at the park named for him when I walk my dogs. He is missed.

There is an interesting yet sad fact in relation to Eric Medlin replacing Tony Pedregon in that ride: Eric was not John Force's first choice. John tried to hire a Top Fuel racer as Tony Pedregon's replacement starting in 2004. That driver respectfully declined & stayed with his Top Fuel team instead. That driver... was Darrell Russell. _(John Force admitted this in his post-race interview during the 2004 Sears Craftsman Nationals... The race where we lost Darrell)_
