Met Joe on the train a few times from the west country to London . He always remembered me after the first meet and went out his way to sit together. He was one of the nicest people you could ever meet . When he died I cried. I have tears in my eyes writing this

I saw the Clash in 1978, and I joined their fan club as a Punk Rock teenager, and it cost me £1.50. When no merchandise came, I wrote a letter of complaint and said they either send me the gear or I want my money back. Some time after I received a letter written on a Piccadilly hotel (Manchester) letter - headed piece of paper, apologising for the delay, along with it came Clash patches & badges. The letter was written by Joe Strummer and signed by the rest of the band! RIP Joe

I can't remember the Clash having an (official) fan club...but they could be generous, Topper gave a friend a zip jacket for the long trip home...& they let another one & some of his skateboarding mates in for free after Strummer nearly got squashed against a fence in an Automatic car incident( described well in Joes Biography 'Redemption Song')

They didn't fall out for long, just got sick of constantly being in each others pocket, constantly rehearsing, touring, recording. Should have took a holiday instead of falling apart but suppose its all part of their story n how they succumbed to every single thing they said they wouldn't. Makes them even more special to me that they fucked up at their most popular. Would have been Unbearable to think of them still around today having made no mistakes or every mistake and just be preaching like fckn Bono. I Love how The Clash falling to bits was the perfect way for them to end. Makes them even more Real for me 👍👏

Really the 'Humility & unassuming nature' came after 'the Clash' years ( he has said he could be stubborn & difficult to work with ) He was really the classic 'Aloof Rock star' like Keith Richards or Johnny Thunders. Although it must be said he was usually very considerate to the groups fans...

Sing Michael sing, on the route of a 19 bus! The Clash imo are the best ever rock band, the were fkn fantastic and really made me what I am today, my brother played a song on his record player in 1978,i was a wee 10 year old boy, I didn't like it but when I got 14 years old I started listening, then I couldn't stop buying Clash records, the only band that matters!!!!

It’s kind of a weird thing to think about. I always thought Joe was the main reason the band was so great. But nothing Joe made after the Clash even compared to Mick’s music after the Clash. Big Audio Dynamite’s first album could have well been a Clash album and it would have stood its ground in their catalogue.

"New music... new bands...." Mick realizes what's important today is not living in the past. No, it's the kids of today doing what The Clash & The Jam, The Fall, etc doing what they did when THEY were young. Never forget what us old guys of today had to say about anything old people told us back in the 70s: "Fuck off and die, gramps. Go listen to your Golden Oldies & get out of our way." LOLOLOL. Even if we knew what they were saying was spot on, we'd NEVER admit it to them. And even if we loved their music (Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Glenn Miller, et al., all kick serious ass) we'd NEVER NEVER EVER let them hear us listening to it. EVER. So remember that the next time you're fixing to straighten some youngen out on "Today's Music." You old fart. :)

Always enjoy seeing Mick Jones being interviewed for the obvious reasons, but I had to stop watching this one after about two minutes due to the sheer cringe factor fostered by the interviewer. At 1:46, even Jones - the consummate gent - couldn't hide his irritance as to the shallow idiocy of the guy. Fair play to him for being civil, but his body language said it all...
