I met year back in the 90s. She was performing at Chene Park in Detroit and getting ready to go on stage. It was just me and her. I was the Office Assistant at that time and met SO many stars but she stood out to me. She was tall, classy and beautiful. As an aspiring singer at that time, I asked her about her life and what made her want to be a singer. She walked over to me and proceeded to kneel down to talk to me next to my desk and I was like "OH NO Mrs. Wilson, please don't kneel down, you have on all white!!" She said, "Girl, please its just a pants suit" LOL! We talked for over 10 mins. When we were done, she and I stood up and she gave me a hug and wished me well in my music career. Best memory, next to meeting Phyllis Hyman of my life. I love her voice and her sound!! She will be missed.

My uncle Rusty Bryant gave Ms Wilson her start back in the day. She and my mother sang with his orchestra a lot before his career got started. My mother was Barbara McCarroll. He once told the story of Ms Wilson wanting to go with his band to California, but there wasn’t any room in the van with all of the equipment. She was upset. About half way through the trip they kept hearing noises in the back of the van. He pulled over to see what it was and discovered that Nancy had hid behind the drums. So they had to take her with them. The rest is history.

This is the first time I have listened to an interview with Nancy and I am blow. Away by how beautiful, humble, smart with no ego lady she was. I am going to educate myself more about her life and music. What I have heard is wonderful. A lady way ahead of her time.

At least now we know why she disappeared from the scene for a while. I always thought that it was due to the change of times and how the demand for jazz performers like Nancy began to shrink during the mid seventies. Her show was great but disco music ruined it for many..Jazz fusion was growing yet Nancy survived because she understood early the value of a good life! RiP

She says it right. It's up to the people with intelligent tastes to lift her to gold. She "wants it" not for her ego but for the legacy that is her gift to posterity. Like Ahmad Jamal she never had that big mega hit to match the cry from the soul, the wail that is the joy born out of misery to create the uplift of overpowering, healing music.

i think the host just assumed that everyone wants to be a hollywood star and/or be in "show business" and it took a couple minutes for him and her to sort out that she really wasn't all that interested in it and didn't think it was all it was cracked up to be. ...a very, very mature POV for a teenager to have at that time....or any time for that matter. :)
