If you end up playing sonic unleashed , make sure you play on Xbox series X. As is FPS boosted to 60fps. It is THE DEFINITIVE WAY to play the game (the way it was intended)

Sonic 06 is my favourite sonic game ever. It’s just fun. Even the glitches are fun. And I find the story genuinely moving. (For the record, Silver doesn’t mix Sonic and Iblis up. He thinks sonic is the one who triggers Iblis’ awakening. Which, it turns out, is actually true. Because when Sonic dies at the end of the game, Elise cries - which releases Iblis.)

14:45 This cutscene is awful but Sonic's not advocating running away from your problems in this cutscene. He says "Nothing starts until you take action. If you have time to worry then run". To Sonic, running is taking action. Not the first time I've heard people misinterpret this though I hope you make a video on Project 06

I always felt the title 06 made for itself "One of Gaming's greatest sins." was an over exaggeration. Does it have problems? Duh. Do I wish it could've lived up to the potential it had? Of course I do! But with all the things it does wrong, there's still a lot to enjoy about it. Like you, I played this a HELL of a lot as a kid, even played multiplayer with my friends and it was FUN! The game isn't irredeemable...but it dragged the franchise's name through the MUD and people are STILL talking about it TO THIS DAY and I'm sick of it. I wish people took the same approach with Superman 64, cuz...why would anyone nowadays bring up Superman 64 as an example of Superman being bad? He's got a COLLECTION of comics, movies, and video games he's in that are great, so bringing up Superman 64 is kind of a moot point. But when another highly respected franchise that helped shape the genre it came into, releases a stinker, ALL OF THE SUDDEN the general audience never let's the company live that down, so they get scared of being ambitious ever again. Sorry for the rant, I just...really need to get that outta my system. Sonic is my favorite character ever and to see people keep kicking him when he's down is upsetting. But yeah, other than that, really nice review. I'm glad you went in depth with the stuff you liked and didn't like, cuz I know some people wouldn't explain any further than "It's bad, cuz I said so." Also I'm glad you shouted out Project 06, they really are doing god's work with that fangame, and it certainly isn't the only one of it's kind. Check out some of these fangames when you have the time :)))

I've always felt that from a design and concept standpoint, that Silver the Hedgehog really should (and potentially still could) have been an icon of the series standing shoulder to shoulder with Sonic and Shadow...

I really want to see what you think of Shadow the Hedgehog. I think it's biggest strength and flaw is it's focus on choice and consequences and how that interacts with the games routes and the content you see.

I’m so glad you mentioned ChaosX’s P-06, that fan game is without a doubt one of the greatest feats in the Sonic community. I cannot wait for the Silver update for it. ChaosX is doing a great service making a modern optimized version of this game easily available for people to play on PC with all the polish and features it has. I doubt Sega will ever touch 06 again so it’s up to the fans to preserve it. Can’t wait for Silver’s campaign to be added.

When I started collecting for PS3, one of the games on my must get list was Sonic 06. When I finally popped it in, I thought it was no where near as bad as some people say it was. Yeah, its clearly unfinished, and Sonic Team bit off way more than they can chew, especially because of how new 7th generation hardware was, how PS2 style small team, new engines all the time development was not relevant anymore, and how they needed to get this game done in lightning speed for the 15th anniversary of Sonic, but there is something here, there is a good game under all the twigs, spit and bubble gum holding the game together. That's why I am so enthusiastic about Project 06. It really puts Sonic 06 in a new light, really making the community reevaluate it in a more positive light.

Honestly, I don’t hate Sonic 06 itself so much (don’t mistake me here, its still not good and smediocre in my opinion). I just hate that it really damaged the series to this day and make it seem like Sonic in 3D was never good despite SA1 & SA2 being acclaimed titles when they came out on Dreamcast. Regardless of people’s opinions on these games, saying that Sonic always had a rough time in 3D since Sonic Adventure is just a lie when people adored it when it came out.

If you do plan on looking at the Sonic games with the boosting gameplay such as Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Colors, and Sonic Generations, I recommend that you look at those games with the perspective that you are supposed to keep replaying the levels over and over again. There's going to be a lot of obstacles that seem unfair in those games but that's kind of the point. Sonic's very arcadey and those boosting games are all about fast reactions and memorizing the levels. Also as a massive Fallout and Bethesda fan, I've been watching you for years and this Retro Rebound channel has been awesome!

I actually did enjoy Sonic 06. Shadow's gameplay style was super fun for me and I enjoyed it the most in this game. Silver quickly became my favorite Sonic character and has been ever since. I didn't even mind the loading screens cuz I have a lot of patience. The biggest gripe I had was the unfair deaths from clipping through the floor or running into things in those speed sections with Sonic. The story is weird but the cinematics look amazing.

I only had Nintendo consoles as a kid so I missed out on Sonic 06 and was playing Rush on my DS. It was only until last year when I came across Project 06 and loving it. Then downloading an emulator and playing through the whole game for the first time.

Man I love this take and I agree. I got the gam a couple months ago just to see HOW BAD it was all the talk online. While it is 110% broken ya I see so much charm and ambition underneath by SEGA. Once you can understand the pressures they were up against getting this out for the holidays you can see the true creativity and genius that this game would have been.

I think I had the same experience. I played this when I was a young kid a couple of years after it came out and I loved it. You don’t notice or care about all the technical things. I just remember thinking how cool sonic and shadow were. Or how much I loved the music. I think if they remade this game without all the bugs it could be something great

Piece of advice for future Unleashed replay. Play with the mentality to "git gud". I know people hate to hear it, but I swear if you play through Sonic Unleashed with a goal of mastery, you will most likely love it AND most importantly, the frentic speed will make sense. There are few joys like S Ranking a daytime stage. As for the werehog, level up the combat the more moves you have the less redundant it feels. Unfortunately completing those stages doesn't feel as good as high level daytime. But the platforming is pretty fun outside of the spiked tight rope sections you could cheese by jumping.

This game was very scary to play, you never knew what would happen. In a good way, looking back. But yeah that was not intended so is still a fault. This game made me try Souls games since I was eager for a challenge so I'm grateful for that.

I do some love for sonic 06 even if its just nostalgia, it was also one of the last times sega would let you play as different characters and you could really tell this was meant to follow the sonic adventure series :D

I mean, it had to have done something right. Considering that I was convinced to buy the Team Attack Amigo dlc, which was pretty nice to play through. For the longest time I've seen a lot of hate thrown at this game, but I decided to try it out to form an opinion of my own. I've experienced very few glitches, none of them were game breaking. I hated the gameplay because I didn't understand it, I was going in expecting the usual. But this game plays completely differently and has a different set of rules. The more I played, the more I learned. The more I learned, the more I began to enjoy it. Overall, I think Sonic 06 is like a lump of coal with a diamond inside, if the coal had been chipped away longer, that diamond would've shined brightly. (Also, screw Microsoft for making Sega push this game out long before it was ready)

Say what you will but Shadow's story got all the effort. One of my favorite moments is when Rouge tells shadow she in for the long hall is so sweet. And when the bad guy is like "spoiler allert, your future gonna suck. Why not blow it up?" And Shadow just says "no✨️" and kicks his ass with his found family is peak. This is the closest shadow that has ever gotten to a happy ending outside the comics.

The Chao Garden was my favorite part of SA2, I replayed so many missions just for that reason. I would love to have that back in some way (or something like it)

Classic Disasterpiece. There was an unusual charm to it though but I couldn't get past all the performance issues.

I feel like I should point out something that was pointed out to me. When Sonic is telling her to "just run", remember that this is *Sonic* who's saying it. For him, running is synonymous with taking action; he runs towards the problem, not away from it, and was probably trying to encourage Elise to do the same.

Sonic 06. That was a different chapter. It looked amazing, the opening cinematic was marvelous. The visuals throughout Soleanna, vast levels, plus incredible soundtrack. But ugh it was so buggy and glitchy. Quick time events did not always respond. Good luck with those speed sections. No matter the character you played, it could be fun, but challenging as well. There was supposed to be a day/night cycle within this entry, but it was left out (later it became a key part of gameplay with Unleashed) Those loading screens ugh

I hope someday they remake this game. Take out alice whatever her name is and focus on the villian. The villian looked cool and had a good voice actor. And if they ever remake this it would look great and play great. Also silver the hedgehog is underated. 5:43 this was kid me as well. I was shocked when as I got older and explored the web much more that so many people hated it and that it was considered a bad game to most. Actually I regret telling my older sibling about it cause they were going through their mid teen's of "Unpopular? Then I don't want to play it." We used to play the janky co-op mode and try and be the faster silver/shadow to freeze each other and be snarky about it, though eventually making it a rule that we're not allowed to purposefully freeze the other during races whenever we played with our younger brother. But soon as I told them that others online thought the game sucked they never returned to it, didn't help that unleashed turned them off sonic a couple years later. The only sonic game i got my siblings to play after that was all stars transformed and that was like a couple week co-op just b4 they moved out. 😔 probably for the best as Forces turned me off sonic until i played frontiers last year.

Silver boss fight has an easy way. When he’s in the air you homing attack him(then he’ll take damage and lay on the ground), then land do two homing attacks away from him which will force silver up in the air again. Repeat

The creator of Sonic 06 said Sonic 06 is a Sonic Rebirth and that they are going back 15 years ago to remake the speed or something. Modern and Adventure Sonic are two different Sonics from two different universes. It’s been confirmed.

There's some stuff you got wrong in the story section, some small some big, that might've improved your experience with the game's story, but I won't elaborate too much in this comment cause I don't want to write an essay lol. It'd be too intimidating to read, so if you wanna know, I'm sure other comments have "corrected" you already (hopefully politely) or you can reply here and I can try my best to clear up some stuff. But the big one is: The creature you fight in the future is Iblis. Silver thinks Sonic is the Iblis _Trigger_ I.e. the person or event that causes Iblis to be unleashed He was not confusing Sonic with a giant fire god lol. And your idea for SA3 isn't bad. Since the "edgiest" part, killing Sonic off, was done in 06 anyway. It's a bit cliche, but it's not like the ideas in 06 are super original or anything lol

"Speed is not enough" I think they meant the drug when they say speed. I enjoyed this game when I was younger but eh, looking back, I think I enjoyed Rivals more. These two games still introduced my favorite character tho, Silver.

I personally love the game if you asked what Sonic game between garbage bland forces to Sonic 06 I'd rather play Sonic the hedgehog 2006 specifically on the Xbox 360 the less broken version PS3 games a lot of em were more glitchy than the Xbox 360 versions.

Sonic 06 deserves its flowers. It was basically Sonic Adventure 3. The technical part sucks, sure. But the gameplay had innovative ideas, silver alone was iconic, mephiles was a cool villain, and the hub world was cool. Take these good parts and put them in a diff game with a better story, it would be best sonic game of all time

I was SO disappointed when this came out. I was on a huge Sonic kick at this point in my childhood. SA1, SA2, and Sonic Heroes were all replayed over and over again. People like to say this was Sonic Adventure 3 but deep down, I'm glad they didn't name it that, because it gives me hope (copium) that an actual GOOD Sonic Adventure 3 will come out one day haha. But I'll say this, I skipped Shadow the Hedgehog at the time, and I still stand by the opinion that giving Shadow guns and vehicles was the dumbest thing they ever could have done to that character after bringing him back to life in the first place. Even as a child I felt like each appearance after SA2 cheapened the sacrifice he made at the end of that game.

Sonic 06 is one of my 3 Favorite Games in the Franchise other than Unleashed and Generations,sure I only see the Cuteness in 2011 before I realized that it was Hated by Fans and has Major Flaws,however aside of those I Love this Game as well as the Stages,Songs,Characters,Villains,and the Advisor it has since there's still so much Potential to this Game,Sega needs to experiment with more Things in the Sonic Franchise and if we get a Sonic 06 Remake,I would be so Happy,Hyped,and Excited for It.

People always look at me so sadly when I say Sonic 06 was my first Sonic game and that I liked it. I was six when it came out! I always tell people, at least every other game was so much better by comparison. 🤷‍♀️😂 I did mostly enjoy it as a six year old despite the glitches and stuff. My friends and I loved racing each other in the multiplayer mode.

I asked my dad to import this game from Japan just to play it early. My 11 year old self was never more hype for a game. Loved it then and still have a huge soft spot for it now. When it first came out its flaws were obvious but fans still saw the charm and original vision that Sonic Team had. Nowadays the internet groupthink treating this game like a crime against humanity is so overblown. Great video!👍

I rented this game when I first got my PS3 just to try it out. I was so excited because the cover art and other marketing surrounding it made this look like the definite, next-gen Sonic experience. I remember vividly trying to convince myself it was good but ultimately getting bored with the game after about an hour or so of gameplay. I never understood how they dropped the ball so hard.

I am never ever replaying this game again. I would rather play Shadow the Hedgehog, Devil May Cry 2 and Resident Evil 6 on repeat.

I have the same feelings for the shadow the hedgehog spin-off. I absolutely loved it as a kid for some reason and now that I look back at it, I see nothing but flaws in the game.

I first played this game around a year ago and I don't think it's that bad. Actually, I think Sonic's story has some of the best levels in the series to be honest. I grew up playing practically every Sonic game I could get my hands on but '06 always alluded me, having all of these Adventure-esque levels which I'd never had before was great. The game is glitchy for sure but nowhere near enough for me to dislike it for them, I rarely had them impact my gameplay in any major way and when they did it was in certain situations which I would just avoid going forward. The game is fairly ugly but the rendered cutscenes are beautiful as always and the music is absolutely wonderful. I acknowledge that it's definitely a rushed and flawed game but I don't see it as bad or something not worth playing, especially if you're a Sonic fan.

I would honestly argue Sonic Colors is more so the definitive modern Sonic game than Unleashed. Both have their pros and cons (they’re Sonic games after all) but I feel Colors is more balanced in its quality and more representative of what a good Sonic game is to a lot of fans.

Sadly I don't have much of a connection with this one as I wasn't big on it as a kid either. Not completely awful but I remember playing it coming off the back of games like Sonic Heroes and Sonic Adventure 1 and just not liking the look or feel of it at all and so I put it down not long into my playthrough, ultimately wasn't surprised when I found out most Sonic fans weren't fond of it either

Honestly man I do find some things to appreciate about sonic 06 there was a time period after I beat sonic lost world, I turned a sour eye to sonic the hedgehog as a whole and thought man sonic is a bad franchise I got back into sonic the hedgehog once I played sonic mania 3-4 years later and during that period I would trash people who said good things about sonic 06 and I didn't like unleashed than I went back to the games of my childhood and these new games I didn't complete and I found a love for them

It's fine to like Sonic 06. A lot of times fans are angry at smallest details and more unfair to the game than perhaps should've been. Sometimes i like to say "this game is crap" not because it is crap (game could be pretty decent), but because i don't like general direction of a new game.

Sonic unleashed is by far my favorite and most memorable

If you take this game for Sonic DarkSouls maybe you would have another appreciation. To compare Sonic Generation there's not really any challenge , it's pleasant but it's linear and it doesn't require effort, it bothers me. I prefer Sonic 06 today having learned to play it as it is. For each problem of this game there are solutions, there are even useful bugs! And it's stimulating. Now I have ALL the trophies of the game, ALL the S ranks. Even the story with these execution problems can be appreciated. You have to imagine what is missing, try to understand what they wanted to do and at this moment we have one of the most fascinating stories of the saga. It's impossible to do that with Sonic Colors or Generation they have nothing to offer in their stories. Sonic 06 respects these characters, yes. Shadow's best narrative arc after Adventure 2 which offers him maturity and personal fulfillment for him and his team over his entire journey. An inspiring Sonic who pushes Élise to mature and simply live without worrying about what she can't control. And Élise, who is poorly developed, we can still understand these problems with hindsight. She carries the weight of the apocalypse in her, she must have been queen very early because she lost these parents, she lives for these responsibilities to the point of not being really human anymore, she just has a facade smile. So inevitably when a guy who is the complete opposite of her who brings her what she needs who saves her physically and morally she falls in love with him, I understand. It's not mutual on Sonic's side he's just helping someone who needs help and what's the problem with interspecies love? Sonic is more human in personality than Robotnik, he has a conscience he is not a primal animal. He's kind of a mutant. You've never seen Beauty and the Beast, Roger Rabbit, Mass Effect... Or the double reading of the script compared to Blaze who would in fact be a personality of Silver, surely it was not voluntary on the part of the Screenwriters but here is an example of defects that become a quality. If you like to make theories this game is perfect. Infact I'm too lazy to continue to argue there's so much to say. It's a bad game but it has a soul. I love this Sonic DarkSouls ❤ (Sorry my english im French😊)

Elise was not an adult, what the fuck. She was a teenager, just like what Sonic is supposed to be. Not like that justifies the pairing as a workable one, they had no chemistry, but implying what you did was another thing entirely of worse poor taste. As others have pointed out, you missed the meaning of Sonic's advice, since running for him is moving forward, taking action against being stagnant. And conceptually there is no problem with Sonic being romanceable with or without a human, it just needs way better execution. But of course, for stories of him to fully maintain his free spirit they would need to mostly focus on friendships rather than anything else. And maybe stories would benefit more from development of Amy rather than adding more characters, at least regarding that angle of the interactions Sonic could have with his cast. But again, is something that could works as secondary.
