I want to see the Max Pacioretty trade tree that started with Craig Rivet being traded to San Jose
@felixgagnon4807
@felixgagnon4807 3 жыл бұрын
Montreal got a first (Pacioretty) and Josh Gorges for Rivest and fifth that happened to be Julien Demers (never played NHL). Sharks traded Rivet to Sabres after two ok seasons for 2 2nds (2009 : William Wrenn, never played,. 2010 : Traded to Hurricanes for 5th round pick [Cody Ferrerio, never played] and Niclas Wallin [10 points in 97 games for SJ]. The pick was Mark Alt [18 NHL games, 0 points]. With the Sabres, RIvet was picked up in waivers by the Blue Jackets. Josh Gorges was a pillar in Montreal (wore the A) for a little more than 7 years as a defensive d (464 gp, 88 points, +35). Traded to Buffalo where he did not show up those numbers (-42 in 4 seasons) for a 2016 second round pick (Chad Krys, does not play in the NHL, and is not killing it in the AHL). That pick, along with another second round pick in 2016 went to the Blackhawks for Andrew Shaw. Ok, that other pick was Alex Debrincat. Shush But, Shaw was again traded by the Habs to the Hawks for a 2nd in 2020 (Jan Mysak, a top prospect according to Scott Wheeler), a 3rd in 2021 and a 7th in 2020 which was used by the Habs for the Jake Allen trade along with a third in 2020. The habs also got a 7th 2022. The Blues selected Dyylan Peterson with the 3rd and Chase Bradley with the 7th. Pacioretty put up 226 goals and 448 pts as a Hab (was the Captain) in 626 gp. He got traded to the VGK (106 pts in 137 gp) for Nick Suzuki (41 pts in 71 games as a ROOKIE), Tomas Tatar (119 in 148 points) AND a second round pick in 2019 (which got traded to the Kings for a 3rd and 5th round pick in 2019) The second round pick by the Kings was Samuel Fagemo (13 pts in 7 gp for team Sweden in the 2020 WHJC). 3rd pick for Habs was Mattias Norlinder. Played WHJC, no points in 7 games as a D. 5th round pick : Jacob Leguerrier. Doubled his total points in the OHL this year.

Man, I remember that day. We were on the beach in Mexico. Someone from another Canadian family yelled out "the Leafs just got Phaneuf!" I was super pumped. He was a monster when he was young. Too bad it didn't work out well for him in Toronto, in the end. The game changed, and his big hits were vilified. That took away his impact (so to speak). Same thing kind of happened to McCabe, when they outlawed the can opener. That, getting rag dolled by Chara. That's what did McCabe in.

Here's an idea of a tree that starts with a small, unassuming trade. Jeff Norton from Pit to SJS in 2001 for Johan Herdberg. It ended up getting the Pens Neal, thus Hornqvist and Spalding. Spalding was part of the Kessel trade, which turned to Galchenyuk then Zucker. Hornqvist was just sent to Florida for Matheson. A nice tie in is that Norton is also one of the D-men Mario is splitting in the statue outside of PPG

Toskala was a good goalie who ended up on a shithole franchise with a garbage goalie coach in Allaire who tried to make a 5'9" hybrid veteran play like an overweight, clunky, blocking butterfly goalie with massively oversized equipment. Toskala had bad reputation for his big clumsy blooper. But he had good potentiality. Without some health problems (at least i remember so) and perhaps a better team, he could have had some good career. I remember San Jose tandem, interesting enough both Kipper and Toskala went to Calgary in the end! Believed that Toskala would have been the best, too.

I covered San Jose's AHL team when they were in Cleveland as a collegiate journalist. I remember Toskala being good, but not great. Oh how right I turned out to be.

I don't get why some fans get upset when players choose to go to US College for a couple of years before they join their NHL clubs. I mean going that route is the smartest route you could go - especially if you're a mid-round pick that needs to develop his game... I mean it's an excellent opportunity for a player to not only develop against bigger older players, and a style of game that more resembles professional hockey (AHL/NHL) but at the same time get an associates degree to boot - at least just as a backup plan in case their career doesn't go as planned.... I mean If I was drafted I would absolutely go the university route unless I was a top pick or something and felt I was absolutely 100% ready for the NHL..... Sorry but the CHL and NCAA are entirely different leagues with entirely different philosophies.... The NCAA is more like the AHL/NHL and professional hockey in general while the CHL is more of a league that focuses on certain players, while the rest are just cannon fodder and pylons for the stars to embarrass. If you disagree with my opinion, please by all means leave a comment.
